Episode 249 Discussion: 18th April 2013

Sultan stops RK's car in the middle of the road to rescue Madhu from RK, Dips comes to Chawl and discloses to Trishna that Madhu is back in RK Mansion

Events of the Episode
  1. Sultan is standing in the middle of the road. Madhu shrieks and RK stops the car. Madhu recognizes it to be Sultan. Madhu and RK get out of car. Sultan keeps looking at Madhu and asks her if she is fine. RK asks her not to answer and tells Sultan to talk to him. Sultan royally ignores him and keeps asking Madhu. RK and Sultan have a heated conversation where both snide each other over their professions, gun-toting and Make-up donning.
  2. RK takes away Madhu back to the car, when Sultan points his gun at RK's head. Madhu is worried. RK is amused. Sultan asks RK to let go of Madhu and RK answers him back, what will he do if doesn't. As this challenge goes on Madhu wriggles her hand from RK's grip and runs to Sultan and very softly, lovingly holds Sultan's hands and the gun and over a long eye-contact with Sultan, asks him to lower his aimed gun. Meanwhile RK from behind asks MAdhu not to plead with Sultan and asks her to back out. Madhu without losing her eye-contact with Sultan answers RK that Sultan will not do anything to her. Sultan looking at Madhu, lowers his gun. RK pulls Madhu back, escorts her to the car, and then as he walks to his side of the car, asks Sultan, "how would he feel had someone interfered betweem him and his wife" and before he can finish off the sentence, Sultan retorts RK, that had he had a wife, there never would arise a situation when a third person would have interfered between him and his wife.  RK deeply insulted walks back to the car, drives off as Madhu looks so forlorn at Sultan as if she is all fettered against her wishes in RK's car.
  3. Upon reaching the studio, RK instructs Bittuji that Madhu as his wife need not work as the hair-dresser and only allowed to work, if Madhu herself wishes so. As he leaves, Bittuji pleads with Madhu never to leave RK. Madhu is angered and upset and asks how Bittuji can ask that when he knows what RK did with her. Bittuji says he understands, but also that she has not seen, how his Chief crazily loves her and is so possessive about her that he cannot stand a third person around her. That his Chief's methods are different and will not say that he loves her, but love he does.
  4. There in the chawl, Trishna is practicing her lines from a scipt, when Dipali knocks her door. Trishna opens it and Dipali presents her with Shagun ka thaal and in a boring 3 min dragging act discloses to Trishna that Madhu has returned to RK Mansion to be back with RK. Trishna is taken aback, but packs off Dips anyways by giving her RK style OUTT. Before Padmini enters the chawl, she hides the Shagun ka Thaal.

Episode Reviews

Myself

Was a HEAVY Episode.  My heart is actually palpitating. This is the first time it happened after Feb 9th.
__________

I didn't like Sutan giving under the belt hit to RK

Sultan to RK "Agar meri biwi hoti, to kisi teesre ko beech mein aane ki naubat hi nahin aati."

RK got a direct attack on his Mardaangi in the garb of moral preaching.  There peeps, all those who wanted RK to get his share of dues for his actions, here he has got his Waat from Sultan.  RK is not a man in his eyes. And he had mercy on  RK only because of Madhu.

****See Nishi !!   Didn't I tell you yesterday, it seems to me that RK was going to have a SHUT-UP today. It happened. RK was Shut-down totally.
I see that you didn't read my response in yesterday's EDT. Unhappy

_________

I didn't like Dips nosy interference into RK-Madhu's life. She came alone and did that drama. I FF'd the scene, and only stopped when Trishna seemed to be showing her the door. Usually, I always keep the patience, but Dips scene was too long on my nerves.

What I liked was Trishna saying OUTT to Dipali.  Small mercies on my soul. I smiled at that time. And now I laught as I write it. LOL
Trishna to Dips : Mera Haat Dhone ka Dil nahin kar raha, warna something something she says. It was good to hear. Dips is really desperate. Despo Dipali, Gutter Queen, listens and takes any crap as she likes spreading crap. Hmmm!

_________

Bittuji begging Madhu to never leave his Chief. Suddenly why so much desperate painting of RK as the Loser. Let him be a natural loser yaar. Sigh !!!

________

And Precap -  Madhu calling Sultan, desperately asking him to pick-up the phone. And RK observing her. Ugh!!  Please RK, why don't you just leave her ?!! Sigh ! I am  not even a man to understand how your hormones must be raging there, but I do have an inkling that the rage is not a good foreboding for me. I better run away from there. Unhappy

______

Underlying and Overwhelming Emotion - DESPERATION.

Everyone is Desperate.
  • Sultan - D to save Madhu and slight RK. Diljala, chance pe haat maar liya
  • Madhu - D for no reason whatsoever
  • RK - D because Sulbala makes him so.
  • Dips - D because she sees Rishbala happening
  • Trishna - D to hide things from her mother for the sake of God knows what reason !
  • Padmini - D to hear something from her Nek Suputri Madhu
  • Bittuji - D to have Madhu accept his Chief. Can you really get any more desperate ?!! Bji, I did not expect this from you. It doesn't help your Chief in any way. The opposite happens, your Chief looks a loser. If I were in Madhu's place, it comes across as more creepy.
  • CVs  - D to sell Bermuda's Triangle. They want Sulbala to happen, so that they can next show Sulbala falling apart and then Rishbala can happen. I think the show's essence is now over, if this is how you go on.  Sultan introduced, Bhujang introduced ...all but with no story of their own. Silly  How are you planning to run 1000 episodes, if we cannot continue to love main characters. But what I am talking ? I stopped watching BV when it became monotonous. My parents started having vommitty feeling around it when Avika Gor did not even make an exit, they were those who first liked the show very much...and yet BV went beyond 1000 episodes.
  • ME - Am I frustrated, Desperate or frightened ?  I don't know for sure what I want. For now, I want my heart beat to come to normal. There was so much of strangeness, wierdness and disgust that Fear was induced as if I was going to be engulfed in the deluge of unpleasant things.
I am clearly confused. What do I want now ? Totally confused.

Hi Shri,

Absolutely love the way you have explained the Deluge of Desperation and other similar, not so pleasant emotions, especially the bold sections. I'd like to add one more D, Dilemma - to watch or not watch.

In the Media and future track discussion track, I echoed similar sentiments. The ambitious target of achieving 1000 episodes will only happen with Madhu going back and forth between RK and Sultan. I feel cheated with the whole drama that CVs have woven - or rather unwoven. They did not put much thought into introducing Sultan track. Then they back-tracked without developing that line of story. Now they are again trying to soft sell that track. They themselve don't seem to be convinced about what they want to show, how can they expect viewers to be convinced? Its high time they took a stand and decided what they want to show, and let viewers make a choice. Someone needs to tell them it is not possible to please all the people, all the time. I have a headache oscillating between - will they, won't they - for both, RK-Madhu and Sultan-Madhu.

Myself
I am reading so many reviews where you say RK-Sultan scene is edited.  I have not seen those spoilers, where Kutta and sadakchaap dialogues must have been there.  Though I did not like face off between Sultan-RK today, where literally Sultan told off to RK on his face that, "You are not a man enough", I liked the fact that RK did not resort to more ugly conversation and just retreated from there. IMO,  it takes to BE a MAN to gulp down an insult given below the belt and back out from the situation.  To me the saving grace was this retreat of RK.  This is why then I did not like Sultan heaping that insult at all. RK was right asking Sultan, "how would you feel if anyone interfered between you and your wife?" and before he could finish, Sultan gave that blow.

At that point, what can a man do...Rage he will. But RK before his wife, witnessing all that, should he rage before a gun-toting man ? In Neanderthal State as Cave-Man, may be RK should go about challenging Sultan and get shot by Sultan like a hero before his wife. But seriously, is that intelligence at all? Hell No !!! Hence I appreciated his gulping down the insult.

The scene actually was a good one. Can I advise you Dear Ladies. Why don't you have your hubbies watch that scene and ask them to tell what went on between the two men.

The other reason, why I did not like this scene is because, till now Madhu and RK had the fight head-on between themselves. Today, RK got a 3rd Party interference in his equation with Madhu, where his manliness has been so badly challenged that he loses to both Madhu and Sultan if he tries even for a little bit of his RK Attitude.  That EPIC scene actually PUT Rishabh Kundra in Survival mode.  He needs to survive the hit below belt that Sultan dealt and win with Madhu (even if he has to free her against his wish).  So by actually losing to Madhu, RK will somehow get even with Sultan's insult.  And this strategy of CVs, I did not like it.  Why would they not have Madhu bend down RK as always, why they had to PROP Madhu through Sultan's manliness and take down RK.

The CVs painted Madhu as the Abla Naari...but in a Cruder manner, the vulnerabilty for Males as well.  We see these kind of things in real life as well, is it necessary to show this on TV ?

But as AA reminded me of Andaaz Apna Apna...I recalled this most famous dialogue that is cheap and yet hilarious.

"Aap Purush Nahin Hai." Kya??  "Nahin Nahin...Aap MahaPurush Hai !!!" LOL

The scene was definitely EPIC, as emotionally it shook me, as bad as that revenge drama (hence the rise of my heart-beat) and constructively for the plot, the CVs decided to take a different kind of revenge on RK on behalf of Madhu.

I agree with you Shri on your ETA...I think I said in my post that today RK had to gulp undeserved insult heaped on by Sultan and that too in front of his wife but he did...he raged but he did not lash out. Even his wife...his love... his ardhangini did not stand by him instead she seemed to stand by his enemy and to add further insult she decides to call back Sultan almost in a desperate mode. She seemed more concerned about Sultan than RK.
While the impact on the screen was not huge as what RK did at unwedding but from a man's and more so from a popular superstar's perspective...he was humiliated immensely today and was forced to live through it because of his love for his wife. Was that not what Madhu had to endure too? He mocked her for her love and marraige in front of chawlwalas while she stood helpless...today Sultan was Madhu's mouth piece and he mocked RK's love and marraige and RK stood helpless. If he hit at her feminity by citing disgust at physical proximity...today Sultan challenged his masculinity.
However it so subtle that I am not sure how many viewers would have got how big the issue truly is?
It worries me how RK will take this...I mean he can remain calm in the face of it all but that does not mean he did not get the slight. Will he retaliate or will he let it go?
Ideally to get even or to assuage his pride...RK needs to bend Madhu to his will and get her back to a state where she cannot see beyond him...but does he really want to walk the same path again and lose her forever...
On a different note, I think Madhu did not react appropriately at confrontation because she was so shocked...now that it has sunk in...she is calling Sultan to ensure that he does not interfere in her life...Rk is ofcourse going to misunderstand this and consider letting her go...

@SD: It's true that RK was surprisingly in control today...I was pleasantly surprised there cuz I was expecting a big blowout...but then I think this scene was put in primarily as a filler...story still doesn't move...yes RK had to deal with direct third party interference to his face but there wasn't anything really achieved in the scene...RK got to maaro some dialogues, Sultan got to maaro some dialogues, Madhu got to just stare at both of them helplessly...end of scene...pointless.

Cardio made the point about Karma coming back to bite RK...fair enough..he deserves it...he deserves to squirm helplessly...but I dunno...I feel it could be shown better.

This much is true...today for the first time RK was made to feel like the third party b/w Sultan-Madhu as they went about having their "tum theek ho naa" moment...that must have hit him hard...
Responded by Myself
Nope.

@bold.
That hits hard. Yes.

But more than that is Sultan saying indirectly to RK, you are not a worthwhile husband and do not even know how to keep your woman.  And what was Sultan doing at that time, protecting RK's wife. So Sultan directly showed him...right under your nose, I can take care of your wife. But Not so you, Make-Up Donned Superstar.  And what did he call himself, a man who defies death.

Very layered double-speak hitting a male ego.  Grossly under the belt dialogues.

Responded by Red_Opium
Shri, completely agree with your post in regards to RK's calm reaction towards Sultan's cheap shot.  Sultan's insult did not irritate me as much as Madhu's reaction towards this entire scene did.  This woman hardly knows this man, and all of sudden she hands him a free "personal life interfering pass".  Why did she allow this man's interference, they are not even related?  She was supposed to draw the line at that moment (as it was printed in the spoilers), instead of affectionately caressing Sultan's hand+gun. Putting Sultan in his place tomorrow or in the future will not repair the situation.  Also, I was asking myself that when will RK acknowledge that Sultan is a criminal? RK hasn't pronounced his profession yet.  I want to see RK addressing his concerning towards this guy's nature of profession more than the jealousy factor during tomorrow's episode; he just can't overlook Sultan's occupation.

Responded by Myself
Zoe,

Once I said (on Holi day) how Madhu's actions are coming across as flirtatious and peeps here were like...lets cut some slack to our Adarsh Naari Madhu, who can only be right. Once upon a time I used to call her Muddlehead as she was that. Gone are my those free spirited days.  I don't even want to discuss Madhu.  I missed the bus...of having fun discussing her with rest of people. I guess I was too far advanced and it displeased many; and today, she is not even on my radar of analysis, as she is a gone case. I just watch her for her chemistry with her hubby.

@bold
Today RK addressed Sultan's gun-toting. He started off saying, who wields a gun right in the middle of the day like that.   Even those dialogues were cloaked.  Actually the CVs again made RK handle that situation in a subdued subtle manner rather than RK's smirky bombastic manner.

I did like that subtle way of expression, as in my analysis of RK, if RK did not know how to handle these kind of situations, them him growing up alone since he was a 12 year old buy, gets negated and false. Infact we all agree that when it comes to observations and sensitivity, RK has a handle on that. So RK is not going ballistic about that where we viewers see it as his trump card to show Sultan down. What I saw today, was  RK tried to rationally ask Sultan, what's that gun-toting habit of his is about...and pretty soon, Sultan reduced him to get out of RK-Bombastic mode and brought down to man to man level. Ofcourse, how do you expect a Gangster like man handle another man...obviously in this manner, especially if he has a gun and the spirit to defend a woman he likes and it doesn't matter if her husband is there or not, it is enough for Sultan that once the same woman said to him that there's nothing going between her and RK.

Now, after taking a hit on masculinity especially about the challenge that RK cannot handle his wife as he thinks (in Sultan's eyes), the issue is definitely not about Gangster vs Superstar.  It has become an issue between two men.

Life surprises you in strange manner. Today was that one strange day for RK. Now his dream about Sultan is complete. RK is as nearly dead as he dreamt.

And to think about it, I feel an ass myself for having tweeted to ST yesterday that J factor needs to be subdued and concern/safety factor increased.   yahan...to kuch aur pak gaya.  (Something else got cooked).

Shri, after reading your superb posts on the last two pages on the nuances of the Sultan-RK confrontation (and all the responses from AY, MM, dramacrazy, RO),  I'm at the stage where I'm now somewhat sickened by that scene (whereas on the first watch, I just kind of skimmed through it and just wrote it off as an unenjoyable dud.)

Responded by Myself
river,

Thank you.

I guess. when I had that increased heart-beat, I knew I was emotionally hit and was certainly confused as to why CVs would show me that kind of scene...and when I read other reviews, where peeps seemed missing the kutta, sadakchaap dialogues, I realized, that the CVs kept on editing/deleting, until they made sure RK looks completely falling down both from his Ishq and Junoon state and render him totally stumped...a hit on his ego.

That's why its good to discuss here on the EDT. A bounceback happens to our state of minds.  I have understood atleast something of what happened to me today.

Even now, about the precap, I don't know what to expect. Knowing the few men in my life and generally about how men behave...I would say, "Ek ka Gussa, Doosre pe Nikaalga, woh bhi poori baat ka khulaasa na karte hue".  Will he really behave well tomorrow ? I just have to wait. The guy always retreats and comes back when he has answers or resolutions. Previously situations happened to him through Madhu and Malik. This is first time, a different kind happened. He could forgive a father for attacking him on account of his concern for his daughter. How would he take the Other Man interference in his matters (with his wife)  on account of his concern for his WHOM ? Isn't that RK has been asking along Madhu, "KYA RISHTA HAI TUMHAARA uske saath?" ...This now becomes important for him...should be forgive, forget and let go like he did with Malik's attempt to kill him, or should he not let go ?  He loses both ways.  Its not a happy state of mind for him.  That's why I felt like revenge drama... you just get the feeling of loss everywhere, if not really, atleast the taint is in the mind.

I come from this part of India, where men revel in their manliness...where women even if they achieve things have to bow down to their rules. And there I also see how weaker men are stomped by society men. Looks all jungle like from where I come...and its not easy standing upto ourselves in these places. We end up gulping down our own pride, take a hit at our self-esteem and let actions speak. Smile

dramacrazy12
A very disappointing episode...that left immense bitter taste in my mouth.
I actually fely sad and immense sympathy for both RK and Sultan and felt like strangling Madhu for her stupidity. I guess she has not yet decided on her course of action and so she ended up sending out mixed signals.
The episode was publicized to be a showdown between RK and Sultan. The confrontation was supposed to allow both of them to get a measure of each other as a man and at the same time drive some bitter truths home.
RK- Sultan cares for Madhu and Madhu shares a level of trust and confidence with him that she does not with RK at this point and it is all because of what he did.
Sultan- Regardless of what Madhu says and what RK might have done in past...she still loves him like crazy and she wants to get back with him. She will never see him as a romantic interest or have any such feelings for him until RK is alive. He is the third wheel in thier story.
Unfortunately none of it came to pass and the confrontation came out looking contrived and for the lack of better word -tired.
RK had nothing more to say other than tell Madhu to not answer Sultan and sit in car while dragging her thus confirming Sultan's assumption that Madhu is here under duress. On the other hand Sultan delivered a below belt blow to RK questioning his status as husband. Ofcourse Madhu's puppy dog eyes screaming "Help me" did not help either. Once again Rk does not know where he stands because from his perspective Madhu does not come out looking good. I can continue to vent on Madhu's stand but then there is no point to it. And then she wonders why RK is so rough with her?
I had hoped that RK would have encouraged Madhu to speak out her mind and clarify the situation once and for all about how she felt about him and about Sultan and then asked Sultan to step out of the way. The worst case scenario from RK's perspective would have been that Madhu would have walked out with Sultan thus denying him second chance but then what were the odds of that in light of all the confessions she made in last 12 hours.
I felt bad for Sultan today...this is a guy who nurses a crush on a stupidly naive clueless person and feel that he owes her both his and his son's life. When he is told that she is danger, he rushes off to rescue her without knowing the whole story and all the underlying nuances. He is therefore caught in an impossible situation and comes across as unwanted intrusion. I felt like forgiving all his dialogues and his concern because from his perspective he was justified. Madhu's expression seem to confirm what he had been told so how was he to know what was going on. The only dialogue I took offense was the one where he says there is difference between people who color thier faces and play a role and ones who go around with kafan on thier heads (almost glorifying it). Since when did the underworld business become something worth glorifying...the bloodshed is an inevitable part of the business, not a choice or sacrifice. He is not a soldier but a criminal.
I also felt bad for RK...he still can't seem to figure out if he is having any impact of Madhu or not. He is being held hostage with whatever he feels for Madhu. Everytime he thinks that he is making a breakthrough...Madhu throws him a curveball. Any sane person will read the Madhu- Sultan equation very differently from what it truly is...why blame RK? The precap did not help either. I really hope that there is no revenge scenario in works from either end  as rumoured because RK and Madhu are going to be broken beyond any repair if either had to deal with any more betrayals. Also the person betraying would be beyond redemption.
There was something positive though in the show for me today- I like the way RK did not lash out at Madhu after his confrontation with Sultan...he gulped down the insult Sultan delivered in interest of forging a relationship with Madhu, I like how he gave control of what Madhu wanted to do on set to her instead of dictating it as he had done in past. If he can quietly let go of implications of  Madhu's craziness in precap tomorrow ...I will be impressed with his sincerity. For those who have been asking some hint of humility from RK..I would say he is delivering it starting with making a fool of himself with the dance and continuing by giving Madhu more control than he has ever in past and not lashing out.
Dips-Trishna scene was okay...nothing much to talk about except that Trishna is confused as to why Madhu would go back to RK and decides to investigate before she tells Paddy or raises an alarm. I liked her today.
Dips just want to see RK as miserable as she is. She pretty much knows that RK is not going to give her the time of day regardless of the fact Madhu is a part of his life or not but it satisfies her ego to see him pine after Madhu just like she pines after him. I wish she would open her eyes and see the loving husband life has given her.
Bitooji made some good points today...however I hate the fact that everyone keeps harping on the fact how much RK needs Madhu...It almost seems as if RK has nothing to add to Madhu's life ...COMMON SENSE...anyone?
Curious to see where this is going but after today's episeode...i am not hoding any high hopes.

Did you notice ---

* The monkey climbing up the bus behind Sultan as he stood on the highway looking at RK's departing car?

*AR's eyes looked like they reflected the blue of his kurta?

*RK's eyes - ditto -reflected the steel of his shirt, in the precap?

*VD's teeth looked particularly dirty as he mouthed off Sultan...get a cleanup done, man!

* Bittuji's neck looked particularly plump today sans the gazillion gold chains?

* Madhu let her chunni down as she stood behind RK in the face-off? Why o why DD? Even us aunties don't do that anymore!

*Madhu suddenly seems to have got her phone back from RK?

*RK went round the car and opened the door for Madhu in the studio? What chivalry! Very rare in Indian men, I tell you..

Rest all, you've reviewed I'm sure. It was timepass, I just wish this Sultan would go OUT!

Responded by myself
P,
that was something...gutsy effort right in the face of disaster.  Are you trying to salvage ? LOL

Ya, wanted to say SOMETHING Ouch without resorting to profanity! If she loves RK, she should just till this Sultan to flick off no? Holding his handand calming him down like she's some horse whisperer or something. Someone should clock HER one with that shagun ki thaali, like AA suggested for Trishna/Dips faceoff.

I'm boiling with rage today, don't know how RK bhai reined in his anger.

AR has a pronounced bald spot at the back, amidst all that gelled in hair.

zoya_naziya
Why is it that  nowadays they always show Madhu is not interested in working/career at all?

I thought in the beginning of the show she was pretty dedicated to her  hair-dressing job at the parlor...

She supposedly has aversion to B'wood but then she is doing the parlor type hair-dressing jobs only right on the sets?

Shri, I must say that I  didn't get it when Sultan mouthed that dialogue until my Mom voiced out her displeasure and explained things to me but then she said that well it was a sort of lashback at him for the pungent words that he used during the  chawl drama during the unwedding ...
My take away part  from the scene,  as Hima told, was that it was a reality check for RK as to how he is perceived by outsiders in his equation with Madhu.

But now coming to the hit to his masculinity, then isn't it a sort of repeat of madhu sending bangles to the Superstar thro' Inspector Pradhan?
Even then it was a direct hit to his masculinity, I was appalled at the guts this girl displayed but RK seemed impressed by this gutsy girl at that point of time...Atleast that is what he showed to Bittuji, Pradhan and the viewers...How hard it hit him was not shown...But yes, situations worsened after that...
And in that regard even yesterday, RK never gave Sultan the satisfaction that he was hit by the force of his words which is good enough..

And now coming to the point that the CV's have actually made it a man-to-man thing doesn't discount the fact that RK should not voice out his concern at Madhu's association with a gangster... Oh well, he might not harm Madhu but does that mean any girl from a decent family can get associated with a sadakchaap however nice he is?...
And then you have his superstar repo, image that RK has to maintain... Already Sultan twice created a ruckus on the sets and people on the sets do call him a sadakchaap and most importantly associate Madhu with him... The CV's can't open all the doors and then just let be... they need to cover all bases...
And then Bhujang disappeared into thin air...

They cannot belittle our sensibilities here and just shove on us the love triangle and the concern Sultan-Madhu share with each other... It is not going to work, atleast not for me...

All said and done, I care two hoots about Sultan and his concern for Madhu and vice versa... The sympathetic looks that they give each other is plainSleepy
