Episode 207 Discussion: 28th Feb 2013

Order of the Day - EVERYONE must attend the Party and GET DRUNK
Events of the Episode - taken from Soundarya's episode summary
  • RK and Shraddha are shooting a Karwa Chauth scene. Coolly, RK cuts the shot, tells the heroine she's not doing it right, and explains in detail. Of course, RK and Madhu are constantly lost in each others eyes.
  • Bittuji reporting to Radhaji - he is concerned that madhu may not go for the outdoor shoot. Radhaji says Bappa is with them.
  • RK throws a party for completion of the schedule, and challenges Madhu to stay back.
  • Madhu at the party...Dipali enters with Sikky. He heads for the drinks. DIpali thinks she will embarrass Madhu, gives her friend a spiked coke bottle. Madhu accepts, and starts drinking. She finds it odd tasting, but continues to drink.
  • RK enters the party...starts drinking heavily. He is completely sloshed after a point, goes on looking at madhu. Madhu in the meantime, is beginning to feel the effects of the alcohol.
  • Dipali tries to get close to RK, dancing with him. he pushes her off and keeps looking at Madhu. He remembers her saving him from the light. Madhu too keeps looking at him, remembers the care he took of her, the night at the studio.
  • Madhu feels sick and goes off, RK looks for her all over, keeps calling out for her. He jokes to himself, she's really become Mr india.
  • He finds her in the make up room. She sprays water on her face. He asks her why she would'nt pick up her phone. She says she knew it was him, thats why. She is unsteady on her feet.
  • RK figures out that she 's drunk. She denies it.
  • He chides her for drinking, and for drinking so much the first time, how will she handle herself, has she gone mad?
  • Madhu asks him...who is he to tell her anything?

Episode Reviews
By Myself
Another contrived Stupid drama. Contrived and if it gives pleasure, it is acceptable. Contrived and if not pleasurable, feel like discarding it. It took me forever to watch it.

However, I need to reserve the final verdict on this party track as I need to see what was the need for it after all ??  Hmmm!

These are times when my mind reacted in an otherwise static episode. I will not call it filler, will call it builder episode, just that I did not get the vision for which the construction was going on.
  • Why everyone have to attend the party ? Why was it zaroori ?
  • Why the indirect challenge to someone whom he would call as "aap". Chalo maaf kar diya. Ex-Pati and Ex-Biwi ka private maamla hai. Jab Miya biwi raazi to beech mein is nacheez Kazi (jiska naam SD hai) kya karega !!! Lo Side de diya. Lage raho apni Tu Tu Main Main.
  • Again DD body double!!! She looks really bad! and because of her we need to bear Dips scenes.
  • How did Madhu just happen to pick up the coke bottle ? Why not the white colored one ? Bhai!  I need a committee to be put up over this scandal.   Zaroor Dips and Madhu mile hue hain. Otherwise, woh Coke bottle hi kyon uthaathi. Madhu ko zaroor kickbacks mil rahe honge, under the table
  • Ishq ka nasha !!! Suna tha Ishq shaayri karwaata hai, Baiju Baawra ki tarak baawla hoke baat karne pe majboor karwaata hai...lekin koi talli bilkul nahin hota bewde ki tarah. Ekdum safed jhoot. Kya Bittuji ne hamein bewaquoof samajh rakha hai ?
  • "Madhu sach mein Mr.India ban gayi, phone nahin utha rahi". Yeh thoda baawlapan lag raha hai. Chalo maan lete hain.
And God!! that Kamal Studio!!!. They just changed the board. Otherwise its the same Natraj Studio with its entrance walk. How many scenes have they shot here.  Sigh!!!  July, August, September, October-[No he was shot and after that shamsher drama],  late November again it started with Pareshaan song, then December, January and now February.

The Brick Sidewalk of the Studio set of MEIEJ

Full Paisa Vasool Set for walking, slapping, spending night, dancing etc etc etc. Well! I cannot even complain...but what can I do ? I get bored of the same image or static stuff (even if it is for romance) and I guess that's why I like drama...which was not there today :( :( :(

B minus rating.

It was one of those no logic only magic type of episode.
Nevertheless, it was a nice timepass episode... Apne dimaag ko vacation par bhejo and sit back and have fun...
VD was looking very good in that party dress and was very cute in his drunken avatar especially when he said Madhu phone uthao... Madhu toh sach mein Mr. India ban gayi ...
DD's dress was simple and nice and she too looked very cute in her drunk stage... Thank goodness her costumes are good in this phase...
Sikander was looking  good too... Party mein... evening... koi apne shades pehenta hai kya?
The only fashion disaster was Seema Mishra... Her animal print top was totally... And whats with that dark shade of red lipstick... It was totally.

Okay. I have to defend DD. SHE DOES KNOW HOW TO ACT DRUNK. or atleast I liked her scene in Geet. Check this out. One of fav scenes

I understand that DD here playing Madhu is not that exuberant as Geet. Geet and Madhu are very different and may be DD is purposefully making Madhu different here. Actually I appreciate that effort of hers.

What I did not like today is that party and drinking EVERYTHING of it was forced and it was not cute at all for me. Perhaps tomorrow will be a better day and both VD and DD or RK or Madhu will be enjoyable. Today it was far too CLUNKY to digest their drunkenness. She grabs a bottle...anyone heard of drinking from a Coke plastic bottle during a party ??? [Silly] Such a lack of sophistication in the name of drama creation ?  Can you buy Bittuji's explanation that RK is intoxicated not by his drink but its "Ishq ka nasha".  Even if they have to show it for VD/RK like that, build up needed to be gradual.

For ex: When I start getting drunk...my behaviour is all babble with wide grin chapped on my face. It wouldn't leave. Some of my friends, start crying...So whatever DD does for Madhu tomorrow, I will take it over face value. But RK...my antennae will be up...though I am willing to concede that  being in love, his drunken state is first being zapped in smiles followed by surprises and then crying. I concede that as possible...as now he is a man in love unlike his previous time.

Superb reviews, all! I'd posted one too, but the internet gremlins ate mine up before it could reach the IF server

But in short, I agree with all of you...the spiking/getting drunk was stupidly designed, shoddily executed and looked too forced.  Rishbala drunk was cute. I do think RK is not faking because if he is, it would push his character beyond redemption almost - almost, because we all know the power of those criminally long lashes VD bats!!!

It would be fantastic if Madhu were faking but her character is more straightforward and not capable of duplicity. So I doubt it...

Shri, saw the Geet clip you've posted - this was my first exposure to Geet. Looks interesting. But comeon, those cutesy smiles of Madhu Bhabhiji are reserved for our RK and not that bearded fellow, whoever he is (with due apologies to Geet fans)!

Since I'm so late, I won't get into the details of the episode. I just wish the transit between the last two episodes was a little more smoother. The KC scene came out of nowhere. We do not have KC ritual in my region but growing up with bollywood and tv, I think even I have the basic rules mastered (given that is how you are to do it in reality like they show on tv). Today, it felt the team have conjured up everything around the "drunk scenes".

With zero knowledge about liquor and its effect, I won't get into the debate about drunk RK's authenticity and will take you guys' word for it. There was nothing that I took from today's episode apart from the fact that love-lorn RK, when gets drunk, looks and acts hella cute.  Better I'll wait for today's episode and see things through before jumping down to a conclusion.

Plot wise, I'm at loss again. Where do the CVs want us to head? Ruthless RK, angry RK, shrewd RK, bereft RK, puppy faced RK - why is this show called Madhubala again? And aren't they moving a little too fast to give us these Rishbala moments? Are they really necessary plot-wise or the CVs just want us to stay put?
But then again, me complaining proves one thing. Its impossible to make everyone happy at the same time.
By Myself
Exactly my thought process. Each and every line. I almost had the same feeling and as I felt disconnected with the episode, my sarcasm kicked in...else honestly, I would have crossed on the video file.:D  See I love the show so much, cannot commit the wrong of NOT watching even if it is crap sometimes [Hopeless me!!!]

I dont understand why Madhu decided to stay back for the party. Any other girl would have told RK that she already won the 30 day challenge, so she has nothing to prove to anybody, least of all to him and left that place with dignity! Dont get me talking on her drinking the odd-tasting cola in a party where Vamps and Vampire roam around unleashed!
By Myself
LOL!!! @bold

Peach,
you couldn't come up with that yesterday when I needed it most. I had a crappy day with with one of the Sales guy making senseless manouevering of having his project get a priority at my desk. Now when you talk of vampire and vamp, it almost fits the situation I had ...So this Sales guy was being the Vampire sucking my blood and I was being a Vamp to him, for making him so manipulative to get his work done. True the world is one hell of a party with odd tasting cola drinks and vamps & vampires ruling the roost. Not even one coffee and tea tasted good yesterday.[Applause]

On that note, did you see the Sai Paranjape movie "Party". Very good movie.

Chalo...let me open today's thread.

Episode 133 Discussion: 27th Nov 2012

Madhu aur Bittuji: Lag Jao Mission Karva Chouth Poora Karne
Episode 133 Discussion: 27th Nov 2012

Events of the episode.
Nothing substantial except build-up towards Karva Chouth track, with Madhu successful in getting the jewellery from RK, with Mehndi done in the night. RK is still unaware of her plans where as Dips Bhatia gets to know of Madhu's secret mission. She vows to be a spoilsport to Madhu.

My Take on the Episode

I started to give the episode a C, but then as it improved on me, I am giving a B Minus rating.

The only thing I liked about the episode was Bittuji and Madhu bonding followed by RK and Madhu interaction towards the story line. Because content was organic for the development towards the plot. However like today's manufacturing dictates all round inorganic preservation towards food, Dipzy drama had to be added as the preservative so that Drama Quotient doesn't go down due to her presence and her tadka to the main ingredients.

Bittuji and Madhu bonding was indeed pleasant to watch. As this is the only relationship today which promoted RK and Madhu as the husband and wife jodi. There were all round good vibrations from their interaction. Good acting from both comic and emotional angles. They can still make it less forced and smoother. I guess, Mittuji are not yet close partners, so that awkwardness still exists. But at this rate, they are on their path to being cohoots.

Mehndi Hassan ..I liked him today. For not just the reason that he was a guest actor providing us the entertainment, value to the dramatic quotient of the setting, with a filmi background serving actors onscreen and offscreen through his professional service, he also added another value to the story for the first time. He openly expressed Madhu as a beauty. The beautiful girl, due to her ill-fated circumstances had never been appreciated for her beauty, which any girl would actually like to be complimented, now gets appreciated for the first time by an independent person, a wise ancient man who may have seen lot of beauties.
An aside, I loved how he played puns with Dipali. Pheeki ho...something like that.

Rishbala scenes - Bit of overacting by both the actors and bad dialogue writing.
On the first watch, the interaction seems very forced with Madhu giving too much of goner/stupid looks and RK giving way too much exhausted and frustrated/vexed looks. It was a combination of ill execution between bad dialogue writing from the writing team, screenplay and the actors justifying the script given to them. However, as we mellow down and forgive the overacting and just draw out the sap for the contexual interaction and its meaning, there has been development in terms of story. The interaction has improved a lot between the two post the agitated week of past with the shamsher revelation-RK surgery/recovery tracks. It is now good to see that after coming back from work, RK and Madhu will have these kind of conversations at home away from their nafrat/tang karna/at logger heads/taking care/emotional mess. Not bad if you ask me.

What I don't like though is a working man sleeping on a slanting down couch. How is even going to maintain fluid balance in his body during the night ? Isn't it grossly unhealthy. This is supremely unforgiven from my end and I am gonna protest against this at all available venues.

Irrelevant and out of context use of "contract" between the two protagonists.
Kyon usme to aisa kuch nahin likha ...Question by me ? USME what ? RK answers "Mein contract ki baat nahin kar raha"

It leaves behind a negative connotation for the viewer. Its like a razor's edge. On one side, the dialogue writer used it as a funny "usual" banter between the couple, who now no longer make the other angry with that argument, instead, they are saying and answering using the word, but not paying much attention to it. Its like yeah...contract hai...toh...waise uske bina hum baat nahin kar sakte kya ? That sort of meaning it comes.
On the other side, the viewer is reminded of the contractual binding still used as plot weapon...to take the story in any direction the writers wish. Sigh! I as the viewer, will accede to their argument.
Add to the above, Madhu's dialogue "Order milega, ghar ke bahar jao". Sigh!

The earrings - Plot clunkiness
Earring jo studio mein li theen?  Madhu says.
When?  I say that.
When did he take her earrings in studio. Wasn't it the living room ? And how come the earrings changed from diamond and ruby to red colored stone earrings ?

The forced joking lines and because of those lines the idiotic acting by the three actors. oh! I so pity the actors today. They have to face the music from the viewer because of behind the screen bad writing jobs.
maine din ka kuch nahin bigaada, lekin din ne bahut kuch bura kiya hai
ghoorna hai to use ghooro, mujhe nahin
Machchar RK mansion mein...I thought will not be there in that AC fitted rooms. But there are there. My mistake...India is a land of mosquitoes even for the great Superstars. I got too americanized and so have forgotten the deary little mosquitoes of India.

And the Dipzy related scene - Unwanted Inorganic Drama. I already explained above.
Madhu may have given Dipzy a jawaab, however, a lot of it comes out as a forced drama. There has to be another day where Madhu gives Dips a better bull-doze. This was just a plot-masala drama for making the viewer happy or rather to make the viewers get bored with Dipzy induced hurdles for Madhu's fast. Does it really matter for the Kundra's to be even shown as getting vexed by the Bhatias ? Idiocy.

And precap ?
Ridiculous Dipzy. Isn't she ?  Or is that the writers ? Who in their good waking senses will take the pain to shove food into a plastic bag and then drop in the garbage bin ? I mean who does that ?  Just for Madhu to pick up the plastic bag and have her Sargi ? How ridiculous is that attempt to create a hurdle for Madhu ?

ETA:
I have only three grades for my rating. A, B and C meaning Good, Average and Poor.

Rishbala's divergent views on Karva Chouth

Originally posted by Gurtiluv

well the real question should be should Madhu really be keeping Karva Chauth ka vrath for RK? I know its her choice and she is in love at the end of the day. But knowing RK doesnt believe in vraths and Karva Chauth and she is getting insulted left and right for doing so first by RK's family than by RK himself. The CVs have turned Madhu from a courageous girl I loved to the ideal bahu who sacrifices for everyone else no matter how much ridicule and disgust she gets. She doesnt even know if RK loves her back yet. Would you keep a vrath for someone who doesnt love you back and tell you to your face that he is not your real huspand? I know love is suppose to be selfless but I really dont want to see Madhu be turned into a doormat.

I was also thinking about that 'jhoot moot ka pati' dialogue...seems like RK doesn't have a clue about Madhu's growing feelings of Love...so,with no Love in their relationship there is no meaning to all these rituals...its like observing fast just for the sake of it ...He probably thinks that all that Madhu did for him was because she is a girl with golden heart, can't see any one in pain and a very conservative
one.so,as she was married even though by force she is considering him as her husband and so is thinking of all this.so,his dislogue of jhoot moot ka pati meaning a pati whom she doesn't love...When he gets to know how she feels about him and that she did the fast with all her heart he would melt like butter...I am guessing there would be a love confession of madhu at the end...

@Shri - WORD WORD to your post.

One question I have to ask If Hotty hadn't revealed his past and Mads didn't realize she was in love (which btw ONLY after Hotty revealed his sad past) would Mads have kept the fast?

Why is she fasting anyway? Is it because of her farz or because she's in love?

Picking up food from trash just to follow a ritual is disgusting btw. No offence to anyone. It's just I don't like people who follow everything by the book but don't give a damn about the person in front of you. And this eating from trash is going to get blown out of proportion I bet. Sleepy
That's why I'm more in love with RK. He doesn't give a damn about pehras or ritauls or anything but still said mads is his wife.
_______________________________________________________________________________
I am answering in combined way towards Sona (Gurtiluv), Hima (himbin) and Siri's posts on page 7.

jhoot-moot ke Pati ke liye Madhu ne rakha Upvaas...

1) Madhu did not know that RK will call himself a "jhoot moot ka pati" until she revealed that she fasted for him.

2) RK is as usual angry at Madhu's favor of fasting for him (ahsaan as the wife) just like he was angry with her when he got to know that she donated her blood to save him. Can anyone be angry at saving his life ? But that is RK. When Madhu saved his life in studio from the falling light equipment, he says "Kambakht ahsaan kar gayee".  He returns the ahsaan with just 10 minutes of freedon  when he hated her with all madness. When in hospital, he was mad, Madhu knew already that it would be unacceptable for RK to accept her "khoon dena". She hid it from him. How did then RK mellow down ? When she forced him to think from her rational point. Wouldn't he have done the same for her. When mellowing down, it becomes an emotional moment for him and that too when he gets to know the Paidal chal ke jaana to Siddhi Vinayak temple.

3) Now when she decided to fast for Karva chouth, yes Madhu is traditional like Padmini and would love to fast for her husband. If she had not fallen in love with RK, she would have tried to follow the ritual with her rational mind and fought with RK, why she cannot keep it. But problem now is that she has fallen in love also. And she is in that vulnerable state where she doesn't want to demand and hence the tears. That is her frustrated hope flowing in those tears.Yet, she is resilient and would continue to keep fast throughout the day just hoping that RK will come. It is again her same inherent belief in RK when she gave blood to him, that he too would have done the same for her.

4) By this time, both MB and RK are knowing each other. RK just needs little bit of emotional education from Madhu...as he slowly needs to accept and then feel. For him, it will take time. But if Madhu explains, he will start understanding. Like after he accepted giving blood, going to mandir for him, he naturally and comfortably accepted Madhu's help in the second attack from Shamsher. There at least he was teasing her for saving his life with that dialogue of "chattaan banke khadi ho jana mere liye"

5) The guy is yelling at Madhu after all these softer moments for Madhu in this KC track in his vanity van because, the subject itself is outrageous to him. Like as Sona explained yesterday, the highest level of deceptions he sees through his two pains of life, his mother and Dipali. Both Married and ditched him. And all that karva chouth farce from Dips when being married to Sikky still gloats for RK, Rads through married to Kuku, still tries to get closer to RK, inspite of all his alienation. Basically he is NOT seeing ANY HONESTY from the two women he kept close to his heart. Now that heart doesn't function and instead is filled with apathy. So how can we expect that RK can remain calm on a sensitive subject for him and that too when he shared the nautanki story with Madhu in all openness.

Guys, RK is not wrong the way he behaves. Madhu too is not wrong.
Even though she knows she has gone against RK in keeping her fast, she is keeping the fast more for herself than for him. She is vouching her love for him. It is this feeling, her risking her health inspite of his refusal will give RK the answer, the opening into Madhu's heart.

RK once said to Madhu..."tumhara bas chale to hafte mein 3 baar mere liye tum upvaas rakho"
He knew Madhu to be a conservative girk. If he can smile and accept Madhu's fasts for his life, then why this apathy to Karva Chouth fasting by her...because he hates the Karva Chouth deceptions. His mother remarried forgetting his dad. Dips...no need to mention her. And in all of this deception, he doesn't want Madhu to be associated in any manner. Girls do think of pain felt by both parties towards this ritual and also how they rescue each other out.

Other Takes

By Soundarya
For me, I think I have started scaling down my expectations after the Saurabh Tiwari interview about TRPs (i want MBEIEJ around for a long timeBig smile) which is why I kind of enjoyed the episode yesterday. OR maybe I am in  a good mood generallyLOL.

A few things I would like to comment on:
  • Madhu not registering RK's headache..., I thought that clap was either for giving him a head massage or two, for offering to be his hair stylist on KC day to be close to him !!! But, eureka..this is madhu we're talking about, I call her Madhu Express (with love) when she gets into this mode. For the Ganpati track, she had a steely resolve in her eyes, for this track, she has a dopey resolve in her eyes. Day DreamingSimple! She is  a grey tinged heroine, she is the typical Bhartiya naari keeping her fast, with her own kinks, she has a kind of self absorption or selfishness that prevents her from seeing the larger picture!!  From my understanding, has'nt this been her nature from the beginning?

  • Rishbala scenes - noticed when RK tried to intimidate her by walking towards her, she backs up, she suddenly gets her excuse, comes forward, and he takes two steps behind. OR when he shuts her mouth with his hand, he sees from her eyes, she is not scared, she has that silly smile in her eyes as well, and he backs off embarrassed. He is registering the change in her, and has maybe even assimilated it, therefore that huge showdown in the vanity. He calls her his wife in public, but in private he is still jhoot moot ka pati. He knows she is aware of it, then why the fast, must be his logic??!!

  • Though it seems like she suddenly loves him after his confession, she had these feelings for the first time when he was shot, remember her conversation with Padmini? It has taken her that long to accept that she has started to love him. Maybe it started out as Stockholm Syndrome, but now it has turned into love.

  • This whole KC is a catharsis for him. Let me explain, madhu's harangue on the pooja night, remember we were all so angry with her for being so obtuse about him. This is the same situation in reverse. This time he is the one being 'duh' about her. He has'nt accepted any feelings for her as yet, to himself or to anybody else. He is also doinghis duty by looking out for her.His acceptance of her status as BIWI is a rational one, dimaag se, he has to accept that the relationship has progressed three steps more than dimaag se, and many steps more than nafrat. It's so easy to tell her  to go die, will he be able to stand it if he saw her like that?
PS:
  1. DD's make up has improved, finallySmile
  2. Pillows is a separate track (Thinking of SD's POV  here )
  3. Methinks, marriage is also an upcoming track. Just hope it is not a long drawn out celebration
My response to Soundarya
About that clap...I actually thought, she was happy at him going away for shooting the next day. That will leave her time and space for her own KC stuff with him away from home.

Rishbala scenes - Yeah noticed it. That's where I decided to make the episode B minus from C
 And agree.

KC as catharsis for RK - Agree.
And I liked this line best.
It's so easy to tell her  to go die, will he be able to stand it if he saw her like that?
That's where its going to become emotional moment for him alighting his rational horse.

And re Madhu's make up...they just improved the bangs for her. She looks better than being a next door girl now. But also I have to tell. DD is getting older. So the face looks really big, They are trying to cover her face with lot of hair.
