Episode 230 Discussion: 27th March 2013

Madhubala has a right to move on. Is it the end of Rishbala ? Is it the beginning of Sulbala ?

Events of the Episode
  1. Sultan expresses the indebtedness that he feels towards Madhu for taking care of his son and saving his life through removing the bullet from his wound. He asks her to price her service as he does not to feel obligated to her. Madhu says her services are like complimentary gift and if he still wants to pay her back, then start giving his son a life that does not look like Boxing Ring. Sultan gets angry and tells Madhu that, Aryan's mother left him the next moment Aryan was born. And from that time to this time, he has been with his son, including the time when he had polio fever, not Madhu and so he knows what is needed and what not for his son. [**Sulbala effects commenced with both feeling conscious of each other and talking at the same time**]
  2. Radhaji comes to Padmini. Asks about Madhu's presence and expresses her concern that Madhu may have fallen into bad company as Rishabh said. Padmini gets angry and asks Radhaji what right she has to ask about Madhu like this or even doubt her. Radhaji, says she was just expressing her concern for her daughter-in-law. Padmini reminds R that the relationship was broken by her son and she has lost all rights. R, says she agrees and asks P, if Madhu has really moved on. Padmini tactfully puts her foot down and asks R, if Madhu wishes to move on, she has every right to move on and no one can stop her. And that instead of judging her daughter's actions, R should worry about her son's vile character and his actions. R asks P's forgiveness and goes away from Chawl.
  3. Madhu wants to call her mother and apprise her situation. She wants to go out. Sultan says its not safe to venture out. Madhu steps out anyways. Encounters Bhujang's men looking out for Sultan. Madhu misleads them and runs to Sultan's hideout and warns him of Bhujang's men. As they plan to escape from there, the thugs walk into Sultan's hideout. Sulbala, Aryan and Kakaa make an exit from backdoor. The escape drama continues with Madhu once again pulling RK out of the men's sight. Episode ends. To be continued tomorrow. [***Sulbala effects continue with Sultan showing his concern for Madhu and Madhu showing her concern for him, where Sultan keeps staring at Madhu and not where she is looking into***]

I want them to just end RK's character in this show and move ahead with bhaibala like this. Atleast we would have the option of stop watching.

I second you on that Chakku! CVS ,If you can't keep the integrity of a character built up so superbly over so many months, its best to finish off the character on the show instead of frustrating us disgruntled  viewers! That will be a fresh new start for the show and new fans too!

Are the CVs convinced of the potential in a romance track between sultu and madhu?? Are the actors convinced? Then why did that scene when madhu is looking over sultu's shoulder look sooo cringeworthy??? where is that explosive chemistry people are talking about???

When Sultu said tum aryan ki kuch nahin why was DD's expression a milder version of the same expression she gave when RK said RK unweds Madhubala???

What is with this Madhubala's character?? She was acting as if Sultu got her at gunpoint to do their seva in that khandahar and she is fighting him to call his mom.. Her I will do what I want and U have to do what i want is sickening..   I am sorry but DD's expressions when she is in that avatar gets on my nerves... It reminds me of those nightmarish days when i used to get disgusted by the expressions of Goddess Tulsis and Parvatis who always had a I am the best, purest soul on god's green earth... I cant explain that expression... she is bulldozing herself into their lives and she has such an arrogant expression on her face as if she is doing them a favour against her wishes..

They had such a UNIQUE and RARE character in their hands and why would they bucther him to introduce this ghisa pita run of the mill hero??? Post revenge also there was still lot of potential in the storyline if they had focussed on RK Madhu.. Even a different kind of new character would have worked.. but this action track is ridiculous.. Now sultubala seems like a certainty... I just hope they kill of RK.. My fault for expecting anything from Indian TV show.. Its a miracle that atleast until last of the drunk scene episode RK's character was intact... to keep the essence of a character such as RK intact for so many months was an achievement in Indian TV so thank you for that writers.. sorry for my rant ... But There was such tremendous potential in that character.. i guess i m just mourning the loss of Rk..:(((

Something in the phangurl in me died today. Madhu had a near eyelock with Sultan, and yes they shared some close moments of empathy or sympathy, call it what you will. I miss Rishbala and RK. Their intense relationship was why I started watching this serial. Madhu may move on, but it's not so easy for me. Given how this is trending, I should probably take a break from MEIEJ.

By Soundarya22
  • Am going to tweet to ST that the background music drowns out most of the so called dhasoo dialogues. At least to that he cannot say don't hear and don't watch.
  • I don't know where this drama is going honestly. Glaring bloopers...Madhu did not tell those goondas she saw the man from far away, she had said she saw him around some place, and she points in one direction. How did they presume she saw him from afar??  Looks like the goondas believe she'd been standing in  the same place since the night before doing peheredaari??
  • Like I said once before, am not going to call Sultan and Madhubala...Sultanbala. So anyway, what is it with these two and their close encounters ?
Rant over

Madhu and Sultan try to apologise to each other for their behaviour. Madhu asks him to accept her removing his bullet as a complimentary gift. RK se itna to sikha, dialogue marna. And she asks him to stop behaving like a commander in chief to Aryan. He rightfully tells her off, saying that she is noone to Aryan, and he is his father. Madhu is stunned that someone could actually return her complimentary gift with interest!!

At the chawl, Radhaji visits, and slyly tries to ask paddy about Madhu. The moment she says Rishu, Paddy closes down completely. She is worried about Madhu, but what right does RK have to ask, after what he has done?? She also says Madhu has every right to move on and be happy. Radhaji has no answer.

LOLIn the meanwhile, Madhu leaves to call her mom (am not even going to get into Sultan  trying to stop her because it was total TP convo, almost as if they are trying hard to stretch the episode). She runs into Bhujang's gang, gives them wrong wrong directions, comes back warns Sultan, they try to leave, Bhujang 's goondas reach the place. Nail biting escape...Madhu saves Sultan from being spotted by pulling him close, she is totally into saving him, but Sultan cannot help but get lost in her eyes.... ...bas, am done with the summary.

For all the clunk...can I still see some scope for further entertainment? Random musings:
  • For once, Madhu wanted to walk away from trouble. After that whatever happened was inevitable, we all saw it coming. She is getting pulled into the whirlpool of bhaigiri willynilly,
  • There is a love triangle coming. ...Madhu is not in the mood for a relationship but am kind of worried seeing RK's tevar yesterday. if he does not start using his grey cells, he could be in serious trouble. Sultan is falling for her, plus with an added attraction...cutie Aryan. But Sultan knows RK still loves her. Again, I am not going to speculate about the turn things could take...because CVs are upto something.
  • The closeness between Sultan and Madhu somehow, reminded me of RK-Dipali as in the CVs know it is not wanted, not liked, not appreciated but they're putting it in, as a teaser. I hope I am right.
  • Last but not the least, what is RK going to do now?? Big question. I badly want him to change his strategy in life. But who am I?? As a viewer, I am looking forward to this phase in his life. So yes, to all of those getting worried...there is some drama left to look forward to. Remember he has just gone on an outdoor shoot, he has not disappeared from the scene yet.

By myself.
Leela, No worries. The thread will be up. I have a plan now. And I found my lieutenants.  It is surprise for now. And hope those who know shall keep it as a surprise until I plan to reveal.

Coming to me...I have a disconnect with the show at the moment. The stab was given yesterday with RK scene. But in parallel, I had other hurts going on...especially within the EDT. Misplaced sympathies and lack of principle have hurt me. I can never feel the same when that kind of disconnect with the seed, the idea; is finally felt by me on emotional level.  And I need a timeout for myself.

So until the point I watch the show...I might have questions like anyone. I am asking you and I want you to explain me. Why?  I need an answer that might stimulate my mind. Anyway you answer is fine...just be completely natural and as it seems to you...not influenced by anyone.

Question is:
Do men like Sultan exist, who can listen to lectures and taunts ?  In my opinion, lectures and taunts...unwarranted ones...create negative energy. Then how come Sultan is able to keep his cool ? Don't most gangsters have difficult character ? Aren't they complex ? What is it that makes Sultan hold on to his calm under stressful lectures and taunts ?  Does Sultan not know lectures and taunts ? And is it the first time in his life that he is listening to communication modes like that ? But IMO even when a child gets lectured by teacher and taunted wrongly, it rages so much, that angers turns into tears. Right ? Didn't that happen to you ?

Anyways...thing is ...I am curious...why is Sultan shown as the reservoir of tolerance towards lectures and taunts. In Mahabharata Sahdev was symbolic of tolerance. But I wondered in the story...why Sahdev could not withstand his thirst and answer Yaksha Prashna, if he was so tolerant.

Of course why this facet interests me is because...here we become intolerant of the lectures and taunts and there the man is calm and quiet. Makes me wonder...he must be one of a kind and one of a specimen. Right ?

Another person I look forward to hear from ...because I need to hear their voice to calm down is Hima.  If Hima is still reading the reviews, she can answer me. Else, I am going to contact her Doves over pm.  I feel like reaching out to them today.

Looking forward to hear from you.

ETA: Anyone else who has an answer is welcome to answer me.
The questions pertain very much to today's episode as also from past two episodes. So a lingering them since introduction of Sultan and hence my question. At this point it is not a META topic.

[QUOTE=undisclosed]
to shri...in regards to her gangster tolerance question...my answer is there are different types of gangsters...

SD: First of all, I want to reiterate that I greatly appreciate your effort in creating and managing EDT. There are days I have  given a miss to the show (deliberately) but I really feel bad when I am unable to visit EDT. Love you and appreciate all great writers here, for coming up with such wonderful writeups of the episodes, for having the courage to call a spade, a spade, and also for giving us the comical respite when the makers have gone wayward and are taking us for a foolish ride.

Of course, I am against selling ideas that we want to see in the show and deprive the CVs of their creativity, but then when the creatives have lost their vision and are trying to shove any random stuff down our neck, I am not one of those who would sit back and take it as given. There I royally decide (and not let ST or anyone else dictate me) whether or not I want to continue watching the show. I have all the right to voice what I don't like in the show, purely from the CVs neglect to watchout the tolerably illogical levels in the name of entertainment and not on the personal level of any of the crew. It is a serial alright. Creatives have the liberty to be illogical and naive and stupid but not at the cost of making me feel like a fool repeatedly for that half hour of the show. I chose certain shows because they entertain me as I watch them being myself. At the end of the episode I must not be left to feel foolish, lost unhappy and with distaste. Then the whole purpose of entertainment is beaten there. If I feel that way, then I am watching one of the many make-one-feel-stupefied shows. And that is where I concur absolutely with your feeling of disconnect with the show. I mean it.

Again I have no issues with an introduction of a new character to bring more layers to the story-telling but there must be some integration of events and characters. The characters have to have a connection. Probaly they are still setting the stage for the new characters introduced but honestly I feel all characters are disheveled so much right now that the feeling of hopefulness for retreat is lost in me. I seriously think I need a break. I have nothing against the actors. I have enjoyed VD and DD then and even now, but what I lost now are my fav characters RK and Madhu. Where are they? What are they heading to? Avinesh is doing good but he fails to stimulate my mind. As a viewer, what do I make of him? CVs, you inclined to introduce him to be a sinewy don, not just physically but mentally too. But why is a don so weak with matters of mind and heart. His rugged looks, grim face, and tough sounding voice with a few words is not helping him to look like a don that you wanted to portray. You let him hear a random girl come to him and rattle off without an iota of feeling that she is actually talking to a stranger, leave alone a don. Sultan, you let her yap and that too right from the word go, she went on and on, of WHAT? Your lack of parenting skills and emotions towards your son. What the hell?

Ms. Hauslon se veer ho goes wandering into the woods and bumps into a bound boy. She tries to save him from the goons. A man comes and shoots off all the men and she misunderstands the man to be one among the goons and fights him to save the boy. OK... alright.. then? It dawns on her after a while that the man is the actual father of the boy. Haila... Now what will our Ms. Righteous do? She does not feel anything but anger at the unknown man, that too a gangster. She immediately figures out the child is deprived of childhood and the man is abusing the child. Now she goes rightaway cracking the lessons on parenting. And our superman just looks, glares, and again looks with knotted brows. He puts the gun against her head but doesn't he know nothing deters our Junior mother India? Nothing deters her, not even the fact that it is night and she is in the midst of the jungle, that her mother and others who are worried about her whereabouts, safety etc. the immediate mission is restoring the child rights for the boy whom she just met in the wee hours under unnatural circumstances, not even the fact that she is actually dealing with a SULTAN. How more filmy can a film-based serial get? OK, we know that this serial is a dedication to 100 years of cinema but still... come on CVs... you have no rights to underestimate creativity of Indian cinema.. that is not fair, or is it?

I have the same questions as you, SD. Now how many of us can take that from a total stranger? RS says that it is this character of our righteous puritan Ms. Dare-all and Know-all, is a beauty and USP of the show. REALLY? Didn't she try to sell the show with the same funda with Mukund then as the scapegoat? Didn't they need an RK to catapult the show? I am not trying to weigh the characters here, but I am trying to highlight that how the CVs drove the characters in the direction of entertainment by giving due importance to the relevance of the characters and their unique characteristics. Now RK is not RK any more. Madhu whom I liked so much initially has turned into a rebellious child woman, who leaves no chance to annoy, argue, and preach on anything and everything with anyone in the world (underworld???).

SD, let me stop my rants. I am going on and on. Unleashed my long time intention though. I don't want to be so hard on our show that I liked so much once. I hope they still can work to stimulate our brains and entertain our minds. They might underestimate the audience, but I still want to give them yet another chance and wait a bit and see what happens before calling it quits completely.

I value everyone's views. Purely my views and no offense meant to anyone.

Shri,

I have stuck to written updates ( even skipped a few) so not sure what's being shown - but I have a fair idea.  I have a total disconnect with the show at this point -  I cannot relate to Madhu, her lectures, her actions ...
Lectures are difficult to digest, like you said even kids tune out lectures very easily.
I feel RK put up with Madhu's lectures because he either gave back  sensible answers ( during Ganapathi drama ) or was indulging her - like a child. He changed ( both towards God and his mom ) - again not because of lectures but one on his own and with his mom when what Madhu said struck a chord.

Sultan - I can only think of 2 reasons he puts up with it

1.  He's the strong/silent types who does not want to reply to taunts/lectures because that would mean opening himself  - will make him less insular from the world around him. You can kill for a living only when you insulate yourself from others - probably true for army/dons, anyone who have to kill on order.

2. He's at a disadvantage in the power equation - he's powerless to reply. Why would he be powerless - obligation or circumstance - not sure.

That's the whole reason I can't connect to Madhu -  Most people are aware of their weakness and  trying to do the best they can,  Madhu is never a listener  to RK or anyone - she judges and become a moral police. In that way, she acts like a person way up above ordinary mortals and goes on about right/wrong, very tiring  and unpalatable !

I gotta be blind. I don't see any chemistry between Madhu and Sultan sizzling or otherwise.  Madhu, Sultan , to me they looked more like brother and sister. What eye-lock yaar. It was more like eye popping. Who can bulge their eyes the most.
If they do get married it will most likely be an arranged marriage and that too because their horoscope matches.

Shri, you asked about How Sultan is able to take taunts and lectures from Madhu.
Now I ain't leela or Hima who might give you the answer you are looking for. You have not even asked me but here it goes anyways.  Now I may be completely off here but...Smile

When I look at Sultan, I see a person who has had to bring up his 5-year old disabled son on his own. Dealing with kids takes patience, handicap factor - multiply it by many more times. So here we have a man who has abundance of patience with him which he needs to exercise daily whether he likes it or not. Maybe it is an attribute to his profession (of assumed gangster i.e.). This also has made him mature. And mature sensible people don't engage into shouting matches with strangers who taunt them. They would usually just ignore them.Sultan sees Madhu as a harmless creature with misguided good intention towards Aryan. He is fiercely protective of Aryan no doubt but maybe his natural reticence coupled with heavy dose of common sense and patience probably makes him treat these lectures just as external noise to filter and worry about how to get out of less than desirable situation that he has found himself in.

@Bold - MM...was thinking along the same lines. I actually woke up in the morning ...thinking ... what chemistry, what eyelock.!!! Am not saying what I want to say because just yesterday we got an edit for it!!Wink

There was really nothing. That's why I mentioned RK-DIpali, because this is deliberately provocative. The CVs have this contrived eyelock between Sultan and Madhu every second moment, almost as if they're trying to scare us before RK's return.

Guys, I am no good at speculating tracks, but there is absolutely no intensity in Madhu when she gives Sultan her lectures. Even RK pretended to sleep during one of them!! This is one of those.  She is being boring, pedantic. Why does he keep quiet? he is not quiet, he keeps telling her off, and how many times?? But currently  she is there with them in that situation yes, due to her stupidity!! Sultan is almost like good riddance to bad rubbish when she leaves, kaka reminds him, she is in danger by association with them...now they are bound together by the common danger they face. As a golden hearted gangster/don whatever, he will naturally protect her.

I'm not saying give the track a chance, it is a useless track, it feels like a different serial. But yesterday, I saw some progress in the track.
  • For eg: Radhaji is looking more and more defeated in life. She is almost looking ill. SHe's got her son back, but she's sitting by and cannot do anything while he proceeds to destroy his life, and his peace of mind, his happiness because of his ego. WHere is this track Radhaji-RK, going to go?? After all, she has played a crucial role in their relationship. She still is.
  •  We don't know Sultan's background yet, do remember that
Maybe I have had my catharsis over the weekend because I hated saturday's episode. Kept trying to find answers.  I was depressed after it. This track is the worst for sure. But we might see some progress this week

MM,

@bold 1
Come on yaar !! in my ETA to the post, I said anyone can answer me. Just that I needed to hear from my old EDT friends...I needed their assurance. I have not been wise like them to disconnect earlier. They have more regulated balance and not so sold out on the show as myself...so I wanted to hear from them if I was really wrong being intolerant ...and further what cud be reasons...I was just trying to reach out to them...Here everyday, we say the same thing...people think we just support each other just like that ...so I wanted those oldies to make a statement, which kinda looks independent and a balanced review out of present cacophony.

@bold 2
I am convinced by your explanation. But that could have come to you only after watching today's episode. right ?   Else, you would have had a little struggle to understand Sultan's reticence and maturity.

Okay... Then just like Kodai mentioned...RK too indulged Madhu, so Sultan also indulges this child-woman as he has lot of fatherly patience and listens to her lectures and taunts. RK had reason to keep himself hidden about his motives and same way Sultan needs to ignore to exercise his power and focus.  FOCUS is the word of the day then.

Hmmm!!! I would blame Shamsher Malik for indulging his daughter too much...so much that she bosses around every man like her father.

Sadly, now no longer Sultan is able to take her lectures and taunts and is giving explanations. Right ?

Can I say...Madhu managed Sikky very well ? May be till date, that is her best treatment of any male ?

yaar...but then again...so you think equations are good if these kind of unequal responses are generated by these men towards Madhu.

EUREKA EUREKA ...
Now I understand why Sultan is forced to take the lectures and taunts. Madhu's lecture and taunt is plot-clunk device.

  • Sultan on his own will never expose his story. Then how can the viewers get to know Sultan's story ?
  • Madhu was lecturing and taunting him earlier. Sultan was ignoring her. Madhu kept on her lecturing and reprimanding mode.
  • Now Sultan since Monday onwards is suddenly forced to shed his "ignoring" mode and asked by the script-master to react to Madhu's lectures and taunts. Bit by bit, Madhu and viewers are now getting to know Sultan's story as he is opening his mouth.
Agree ?

Kodai, Thank you very much for time taken to answer me. It definitely fixed me. Basically getting me out of my emotional to logical mind...to see the clunks. Else I was bogged in the real psychological detriment to viewer/character.

Now I can ...after reading Doves, you. Hima and MM, I am happily able to dismiss the lecturing and taunting as mere plot clunk device to have Sultan blurt out his story. They have forced him to be lonely without back-up so that his story is elicited by Madhu as she not only saved his son, is also not from his world...so may not find sharing so bizarre. May be he is okay offloading himself, his steely self.

Poor Sultan...gets a Dolphin Prop-Up for Entry and gets reduced to Lone Man without Resources and depending on Madhu...just to have his story out.

Let's see where this goes...this is for viewers who continue to watch the show.  I am just happy to get my sense back.

Thank you guys!! Hug

OK. I read all the views of our EDT folks here. Everyone is frustrated and distraught. Now we cannot let things as a crap track and overindulgence of a trait in a character(s) affect us. As SD says we have life outside of this show bright and free. I come to the MB forum for more reasons than just for the show. The intelligent and fun-loving people in EDT. I don't want to lose that emotional connect out here. So to revive, I was trying to gauge the positive/promising side if any that were shown in the show in the last few episodes.

SD points out that there are reasons why they are investing in Madhu's overtures beyond tolerance. How will we know of Sultan otherwise? Valid. So there is something planned for Sultan in the story. He comes with a baggage. What's that? How is he going to contribute and revive the show? Are they going to deviate from RK-MB relationship and take a different route. I have no issues but then let them not make a fool out of us and throw some cheap stuff do digest. Anything and everything they show must have the quality and reasoning and pure entertainment that they promised early on.

Another thing that SD is wondering about is Radhaji's state of mind after yesterday's episode. I second SD in that. Poor lady was flabbergasted after her interaction with Padmini. Now what is Radha's reaction and next step going to be? That provokes some interest in me to hold on.

RK defied his blithe interest in knowing the MB-Sultan relationship and his disinterested parting remark about them. He did go in peace of mind although (may be he did not even call Bittuji to know about MB as he thought he was sure there there was nothing brewing between MB and Sultan) but the moment he hears Bittuji, every cell in his body is on red-alert. Now what is he going to do? Is he going to ignore MB or is he going to take a totally different route in the journey of junoon? I need to know what the CVs are up to with RK.

Madhu, can she get herself into more deeper trouble? Baby, you claimed that you have moved on with life but how? am I missing something? What do you want Madhu? Where are you heading? i want to know. Please give us the answers to these questions with good entertainment.

Have fun all! Another day but a better day I hope in the MB-land!

Responded by SD
Doves,

Going by your promptings...the positive feel that I got from yesterday and today's episode.
  • Bittuji and Radhaji come to Padmini and both blurt out RK's name to her, which makes Padmini get offensively defensive about Madhu. This support and trust for Madhu that Padmini is so staunchly providing is like a razor's edge for her. Her support for Madhu today, the way she upheld her daughter, how she will always be right unlikes Radhaji's son, was ringing hollow in viewers ears.
  • Some viewers are upset that why Bittuji and Radhaji had to be naive and blurt out  RK's name when they know Padmini will show the door to them. In my opinion, their naivete means honest intentions. And honesty means something right ? In the present undercurrents of distrust and confusion everywhere, naivete is one thing that can make it easy on our nerves. The way Radhaji accepted that she was in the wrong place to ask about Madhu and walked out, that too was a winning point in terms of drama. After all it is expected that because of her son's act the mother will be humiliated umpteen times like this and she will have gulp down that humiliation for being his mother.  And now...won't there a time come, when RK realizes how his mother is getting broken due to his actions. That time would be something for RK to decide on behalf of his mother and not just for himself.
  • The scene that caused disconnect to me yesterday, RK making a stalking call to Bittuji about Madhu, actually speaking was a catalytic action for Radhaji to make her visit to Padmini.  And infact the only recognition or sense of home we, the viewers feel, is about these two women's interaction in today's episode. This is the only scene that binds us to Rishbala equation, even if it plants the seed of doubt "end of Rishbala". But thematically Rishbala was still present even in the absence of Rishabh Kundra over the screen. It was needed because Sulbala was happening in the rest of the episode.  This interaction also takes away part pain of Padmini by showing RK and his mother the door for what RK inflicted on Madhu. Needed one. Right ?
  • Re: Sulbala
Madhu started on the difficult mission of restoring RK's faith in Ganesha which got her close to Rishabh Kundra. The Ganesha track was abhorrable to many viewers. People left the show at that time.
Now Madhu started on the difficult mission of making Sultan treat Aryan as a child and not an adult. The Aryan Track has now started her association with Sultan and she is getting to know him. Even now some people are leaving the show.

But I guess this all points...to how much of Madhu's love for RK is love and not sympathy for his insecurities. Sultan has also his insecurities. He too needs sympathy. So will Madhu just provide sympathy or also fall in love? That is a question. It might be offensive for me to say it here, but oer Padmini, Madhu has right to happiness and can move on...so look at the converse...it will only expose Madhu's love or hate for RK when more and more Sulbala will happen.

Factually speaking we and RK needs to know Madhu, if she loves RK, loves him for what...as what is it in him that she likes ? His drama...but that she hates it after revenge drama. There seems nothing of him she can hinge on him.

Episode 229 Discussion: 26th March 2013

Betrayal and Trust is the theme of the day, becomes the common ground for Madhu and Sultan

Events of the episode
  1. Sultan lits up the musical lighter. Music starts and Sultan has Voice flashback of a woman who is talking about their child and what he has to be named. The woman wants him to named Aryan where as Sultan wants to have a hybrid name Jahaan which is the mix of his and her name. The woman asserts name should be Aryan and that the son should be a xerox copy of his father. Sultan thinks of himself as the most dangerous man, but woman, says on the contrary, he is a very soft person.
  2. Sultan walks out dragging himself out...not sure why, his left shoulder is hurt, but he is dragging his whole left-side of the body as if he is paralytic. Aryan follows him out and provides a stick to his father as a walking support. Sultan throws it away and tells Aryan that he is strong. As Aryan starts walking away, Sultan catches hold of him and hugs him. Sweet scene.
  3. Madhu tries to feed Aryan, but Sultan does not trust her, explains that enemies could have contaminated the food items. Sultan tells he that he cannot trust even his shadow. Sultan comes to drink water in the kitchen, Madhu helps him, offers him food. She asks him to freely express feelings by coming out of his selfishness as expressing feelings is being human. Sultan gets angry and defends himself that he is not selfish and that there is a reason why he is so tough on his son. That he does not want his son to get attached with anyone because it hurts when someone you have trusted betrays that trust. Madhu explains that she understands that pain and knows how one cannot let someone so close that their betrayal costs us our life and happiness. Then Madhu recovers and asks Sultan, that this cannot be understood by Aryan who is just a child and that he needs affection to be expressed. Madhu asks Sultan about his wife. Sultan does not answer and leaves the place.

Episode Review
Nothing so great to discuss the episode and write reviews on the same, but episode was good to watch. It was Sultan's episode today...a little bit of him exposed on where he comes from (emotionally).

And I read in the written update that ...RK idiot has still not got over his Madhu and still wants to know her whereabouts and sends his Hanuman to check with Padmini. How lame !!!
Stalker not having an iota of sense within him. God !!! Now I will have to see his non-sense now that VD is back. Those three days without fights between the two, no glares and stares was heaven to me.  Loha Loha ko kaataa hai...craziness cuts craziness.  Just that it needs to be fun and entertainment. Hope, he brings home entertainment to the show that went missing since 6th March.

By AreYaar
The green screen superimposed Amreeka background on RK was SO fakeLOL...Hope to see some ACTUAL storyline movement when he gets back...until then they are just showing filler scenes of his like this.

Avinesh did act well today...they showed some layers to Sultan's bg, probably that's why...and they are setting up a solid base for showing Sultan and Madhu as kindered spirits...both shattered by terrible betrayals from the ppl they loved...they just chose to deal with those betrayals in different ways...Sultan with his paranoia and military style training of his little child to not trust anyone ever again...while Madhu still hasn't lost her ability to trust...she gets up and keeps going...it was a nice scene showing Madhu's pain once again.

But RK was betrayed too...not once, but many times...his father killing himself like that was a betrayal for a little boy, then his mother...then Dips...and I guess those betrayals damaged him way too much and he changed in this manner...I think that is the theme that struck me today...the varying effects of betrayal on different characters.

Btw speaking of...are they NEVER going to show the mystery of why RK's father committed suicide? The chances seem even more dim now that Sultan has been added in as a permanent parallel track...

I guess the story will move in parallel now with Madhu and Sultan understanding each other's pain of betrayal and having to deal with the ghosts of their past vis a Sultan's wife and RK?

I enjoyed today's episode (mind you, I use the term "enjoyed" very very loosely peeps – without RK there's really no joy for me…. jag soona soona..)

Things that stood out for me (and I'm excluding some of Madhu's somewhat predictable dialogues, pan-brandishing, etc):
  • Kaka reminding Madhu that Sultan is Aryan's father
  • Aryan offering the stick (support) to Sultan, and Sultan declining it.  The tujhse naraaz nahin zindagi song…Awww…Sultan telling Aryan that he is his biggest support. Sweet Father-son bonding.
  • Sultan looking at the lighter and remembering Aryan's mother.
  • Sultan talking to Madhu about trust and betrayal by close ones.   Reminding Madhu of her own cataclysmic betrayal by RK.   Liked how she talked about how you pick up and live your life after that.  Her perspective of dealing with it different from Sultan's (trusting near ones, versus not trusting anyone at all.)   Btw - looks like Aryan's mother was the one who betrayed Sultan?
  • RK checking in, via his proxy, on Madhu.   Hmmm.. he still looks surly (devastating, but still surly.)  Not good…Maybe his story is going to progress only when he gets back.
  • A confused Bittuji.   A confused Radha.   Seeds of doubt sowed?
  • Precap - that Madhu actually leaves - and conveniently runs into Bhujang's henchmen.

Aren't the thoughts expressed in this post, now crystal clear ? We discussed this on 10th March.

http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3476110&PID=77899303&#77899303

That concern for entertainment which was expressed by me in that week when it started, where for the first time on 8th March since I started watching MEIEJ  drama, I did not want to watch it...because it was like I was subscribing myself to mayhem. And what did I call it ? Drama of bull-dozing. What did I say ? Self-Destruction is the theme for Madhu and RK for month of March. And haven't we seen it for both of them ? Wasn't I asking...the viewers dilemma is that they ask CVs what drama they get attuned to. They introduced a DON, who is not looking like a Don...but is looking a Reluctant Don, an Accidental Don. So how can the viewer now connect to any kind of drama when the categories and definitions are broken. What kind of entertainment can craziness provide to us. Where is our hope. Who is going to be our saviour ? In the form of Sultan, he is neither the saviour nor the destroyer of drama in MEIEJ. Is he an enabler of drama ? If yes, how can they make him look so uninteresting from three weeks so that viewers lose patience.

Its like Ekta Kapoor saying...TV is free-ticket entertainment. The dramatist need not worry about the viewer getting his share of fun and entertainment as he has not paid money for it. He will say...If you don't like it, leave the show.  The dramatist follows monthly themes. All we had to do was to sit back and come back in April, but we suckers, addicted that were, we could not break ourselves. But now effectively the bland drama of past few weeks has been like a visit to drug rehab and now one by one, we are getting out of the addiction we have for the show. Those who can still watch it...that is the loyal audience for MEIEJ and show will go on.

On this ending note...I will say do watch out for 28th, 29th and 30th March episodes, as they will be goal-setting episodes for April Month Dramatic Theme. Those should be your Must-Watch Episodes

Hope that helps for all those who are looking for a clue and sanity.

He will need a Regina to cast a curse and a Snow-white's daughter to break the curse and then find his son whom he lost in his greed for Magic. Like RK's drama...is it not ? Losing Madhu to revenge drama and now he will have designs across TimeWarp to weave Curse dramas to get back his Madhu.

Episode 228 Discussion: 25th March 2013

Madhu saves Sultan by removing the bullet, Defies him to shoot her if he cannot trust her.

Episode Review

Myself
Question.

Why does Madhu use English before man who can kill people. As in I am seeing from the beginning she keeps using English before a Gangster. My mother doesn't know english and if she were watching the show, she would gone ballistic on the show just for this reason...that even in such situation of a Chawlwali lecturing a Gangster, she uses a language. She would have taunted..."Oh you only know english and you have to speak english"

Charu, I said, I wanted to see Sultan's facial expressions. God! He was scared and shocked that the woman was not scared with his tamancha(pistol) aiming her head and was going on full speed lecture.

God that lecture was 3rd degree torture to me. I can be taken to a cell and make me listen to Madhu lecture on what I need for my life, I am sure I would divulge all secrets that anyone would want out of me. Seriously ST, RS, Mukta, Gautam, Shivani...really do we need to go through those lectures ? Did you even hear, how it seems raking you...literally clenching your hands and writhing in pain. What kind of fun are you having by subjecting this torture on us. Yeah!!! we understand, Madhu is taking all her frustration out on Sultan...but what did we viewers do  to deserve this punishment ? Is the punishment about us asking for Rishbala? But poor Sultan, what mistake he committed ? Usne kaun se paap kiye that he was lectured like that. Perhaps, it might happen...getting lectured might be common...just that I was thinking...gansters easily lose control at being lectured. Just the other night I watched Shootout at Lokhandwala.

So was that a film scene ? Charu said scene was from Ishqzaade...Hmmm so the girl in that movie was this talkative and lecturing people.  Anyways. lot of south Indian melodramas have these loud dialogues from heroines, uttering harangues at inappropriate time...but they do it before Heroes or Villains. They don't give out their precious harangues before Aira Gaira Nathu Khera (every Tom, Dick and Harry).  I was imagining a south Indian (I am telugu so that one) and chalo record shuroo...BARF !!!! I could never stand south Indian movies with non-sense drama.

Madhu must be super happy that he let go of the gun...thinking he got his senses out of her lecture. Madhu seriously has no clue what she is doing with that gangster. In that moment, she really seemed suicidal. The girl is on a mission to end herself.

Why doesn't she enroll herself under Gulabi Gang. She can be help to so many.
The website is not yet completed..but still something. This is sort of martial type outfit.  I am sure Mumbai would have many orgs/bodies where Madhu's qualities will be greatly appreciated.

Another thing I never liked about Madhu...she calls everyone TUM, especially the men in her life.  Thing is I am from Delhi and so have the habit of addressing people as "Aap" and Tum is used by me only for friends, peers in office of the same age and subordinates younger than my age.  So I feel very uncomfortable when people come to Tum and Tu level. I heard that in Mumbai, people address each other more as Tum and Tu. God! if I was in that city, not sure how much of compromised cultural adjustment it would have been.

ETA: Bhujang and his "Do-Take ka jhonpda" - hideout. They used fresh husk, palm mats and bamboo...so it was looking very funny... that set...:)))

Episode 227 Discussion: 23rd March 2013

Sultan calls for Kaaka and Aryan to his hideout, Madhu follows to help him

Events of the Episode
  1. Two men find Sultan washed off the water, they steal his wallet and lighter, play the lighter. Sultan starts showing signs of life. He gets up follows the men, uses his knife to threaten the two ruffians, gets back his wallet, lighter and grabs a mobile phone from them. He plays the lighter tune, closes and then reaches a safe-place for hiding. Calls up Kaaka, tells him where he is hiding, asks him and Aryan to come there as soon as possible.
  2. As Kaaka and Aryan prepare to leave, Madhu tells Kaaka that she does not like it that Aryan's life should be risked, asks him to leave Aryan with her. Kaaka tells Madhu that Sultan wants Aryan to be there and he has to take the boy to the father. Madhu protests, but Kaaka protests more and asks her to understand the situation. Kaaka and Aryan reach Sultan and we see that Madhu has also followed them. We do not know if Madhu followed them or came along with Kaaka.
  3. Sultan is upset and asks her why she followed his family. He gives his piece of mind that he doesn't like being lectured by her on how he raises his son and that she is no one to him, his son to pass her judgment on parenting. He also asks her to stay away when asked. Madhu is taken aback at this outburst from Sultan, but just at that point, Sultan faints and Madhu supports him.
  4. Kaaka and Aryan get a bed ready for Sultan. Madhu is panic-stricken and she tells Kaaka that a doctor should be called for. Kaaka refuses...expressing that is not advised. Madhu is baffled at his response. Kaaka tears Sultan's shirt and says that bullet needs to be removed. He heats (sanitizes) the knife and wants to use the knife over Sultan's skin to remove the bullet. The old man is unable to do it and so he turns to Madhu and asks her to become a surgeon to remove the bullet. Episode ends

Myself
Madhubala : Mera Dil Nahin Maan Raha - And She Changes Sultan's Plans.  What can I say ? Whom I am even to question. Hmmm. Seeing Madhu's Heart on her Sleeve is the staple drama of MEIEJ...Poor Old Man...He had to do a Namaskar to let him go. Alas! to whose advantage...None. She followed him anyways and shameless man, used her services anyways.

I felt very bad for Sultan when he finally lost his control (in his weak moments of course) and started answering Madhu in all anger...as who is she to come and decide about Aryan. I almost wanted to cry aloud. As in why this woman interferes in people's life and why she reduces them to rubble in their weak moments. Her kindness is like charity, unwanted pity. She hurts you as if with a knife she is poking all wounds. She nevers asks if you need my help. She says you need my help.

Sultan, the way he finally became defensive instead of keeping his cool around her, showed her his emotional state. It was too depressing for me. This reminded me of the bottlebreaking scene and other good moments that Madhu earlier on showed to Rishabh Kundra.  It is never a healthy situation when people pity a reluctant mind...because it only breeds bitterness. I am never going to forgive Madhu for what she did to Sultan today. A bad moment happened between the two...and it is now completely upto Sultan if he wants to forgive her for reducing him  to that vulnerable state in front of her...a man almost dying and yet forced to defend himself before her that he can take care of his son and she does not have any right. People will say, Sultan was being ridiculous. But sensitivity will say...Madhu's being there was uncalled for. Simply uncalled for.  This is how she messed up with Rishabh Kundra. Now who likes him...He is neither the person before he met her, nor the person that he likes himself about...because unwanted kindness, unwanted feelings and yet seemingly so right...they just breed more bitterness...like the person waiting to gain strength just to strike back when opportunity comes. Never shower unwanted pity. This is what students in special schools are taught and social servicemen and women are taught...withdraw from the situation, exercise caution, act in emotional detachment and help only when needed.

Madhu continues to mess up things emotionally...I think now for the first time, I am able to say...that I cannot watch her anymore play with other people's emotions. In the name of drama...she cannot be the same character. If she is hurting those men and from a different plane...opening them up; ultimately making them hinged to her through unknown and unexplored feelings that one does not even want to dwell on...she is hurting me-.the audience; even more. She is simply breaking rules of HELPING and the Limits to show Charity.

People...do not get offended with me...nor try to advise me how it is good and all...Any given day I prefer help only when I need it...I need to ask for it...or atleast give my consent. That is my nature...if I need to feel good about it. The one given to be in my unconscious state is always a blur...creating a blank...empty state of mind...which I feel I will never have any memory of it. And memory-less existence is worse fear one can have...not knowing what I did or what happened to me.

Coming out of my emotional state
  • The bullet wound on the left shoulder for Sultan, just like Rishabh Kundra, was it to remind the viewers or Madhu ? Fact is Madhu did not remember even once how that guy also had a wound in same place. And as a viewer, I clearly remembered it. So am I to feel good that Madhu did nor remember or chant her Haulon se Veer hoon chant or am I to expect that it will happen in the coming episode ?
  • Liked how Aryan understood what's going on and how swiftly he was helping Kaaka without making a mess of his emotions. Madhu was looking the imbecile in stark contrast to Aryan.
  • And what a clunk ---the old man does not know how to use the knife and he needs to use Madhu the novice to use her bullet ripping skills with knives. What is ST on? High on which substance ? So he wants to justify the drama he created, wants to justify why Madhu was there...because she needs to help Sultan...because she can take up any new skill just like that. Am I going to be coerced into accepting this clunk ? I am never going to forgive the CVs for this torture.
  • Dipali ...The moment this snake appeared on the screen...my heart-beat went up. What's wrong with me ? Why do I get so nervous and upset looking even at the shadow of this woman ?!!
An episode that has lot of dramatic significance and growth...in emotional and build-up terms, but an unpleasant episode for my mind, for which I am never going to forgive the destiny (in story terms) and the clunk (in terms of the weave CVs used with regards to involving Madhu) it had in loads.
It will be a bad memory in my heart...that can become a pain...if I will not forget it...or write it off with reactive confrontations once Sultan is alive and kicking...there needs to be something that Sultan needs to teach himself for putting him in that kind of jeopardy where he had an old man who could not help him, where he risked his life being emotional in his principles and about his power  and weak for his son, that he decided to carry his heart on his sleeve and go to Bhujang rather than go with back-ups. If he can whip himself 50 times for putting himself in this situation, I shall be happy. And after that punishment to himself, he can lecture his useless Kaaka and the ever useful Madhu.

**************************************************************************************
Today, I got the feeling that Madhu should be locked up somewhere...or she needs to have a job always on her hand. The moment she says...I quit this job or Main doosra koi kaam doondh loongi...she does find a new job...with opportunity banging at her footsteps or at the door.

And though I never wish Rishabh Kundra to make Madhu part of his life, as I have not seen any qualities of growing relationship between the two...they have disparate thinking, nothing in common except getting attracted to each other...I think only he is available enough to take the drama she weaves and control it.  I don't think Sultan or any other man can control Madhu.

Anyways...earlier Radhaji made Madhu accept Rishabh Kundra, now Kaaka and Aryan will make Madhu accept Sultan. And Padmini is her staunch support as always is the case. She is blessed by Padmini and directed by other old/young people to do things for them...

CVs...apna ghisa pita pattern se baahar aao...because you are hurting me.

ETA : reminds me of the number of times RK told her not to look at him like a puppy ,,I guess now she just treated him as puppy and treating sultan same too

@bold
This is where me and my friends used to woe about offline (out of EDT). We were always like... he is asking her not to come close to him and she keeps doing things against his wishes and on top of that we do not even know if she is doing for love or just doing because she wants to do it her way. We used to see her ego as well...a pinch higher than RK and I was like...it will not sit well with him...and my other friend saying...wish she once shows to him and me...that yes, she is listening to him, heeding to him.     There are those threads of heart...dil ke taar...they are delicate...one should be delicate about them...because ignoring all that breeds up something else.

I am clueless here...if RK is a villain...so they showed all that and it explains his actions towards her. But why are they making Sultan another scape-goat.  Bechaara uski kya galti...why repeat same kind of drama for him ?

This is becoming a psycho-thriller now. The striker going for same kind of kills.

(With apologies to the Fugees) "Killing me softly"

Sultan sings:
Pulling my bullet with her fingers
Stinging my brain with her words
Killing me softly with her [kindness] strong
Killing me softly with her  [kindness] strong
Telling me how to be a dad with her words
Killing me softly with her [kindness] strong

RK sings:
Strumming my brain with her memories
Stinging my heart with her words
Killing me softly with her [chant] song
Killing me softly with her  [chant] song
Telling me off my whole life with her words
Killing me softly with her [chant] song

I haven't read the other reviews yet, so this is a "virgin" attempt -

First off, the Sulbala phangirls and love triangle conspiracy theorists will have had a field day today. However, I took Shri's advice to heart and just watched the epi without any RK hangups -  as a slice in the life of Madhu.

It was good. It was entertaining. I liked it. I however saw no trace of any romance beginning between Madhu and Sultan, but that's just me!

Madhu is an idealistic, rash girl, who's going to get herself and her family in deep trouble because of what she did today. That probably includes RK. Even a kid realises this -  my 10 year old son who was watching with me was shrieking as to why she's going behind things which are none of her business. But that's Madhu for you.

The Radha-Deepali scene was meh. Served no purpose other than to tell us RK has reached "Amerika".

I expect to have a semi-decent weekend without the usual bated breath about where the RK-Madhu story is headed next week - a relief of sorts! He's safely in Amerika, she's unsafely digging bullets out of gangsters, so all's well in the world.

Now, off to read all your lovely reviews. I'm really curious as to what you all think...

I couldn't have agreed more on this one... I started watching the show close to Ganpati track and I felt bad because I thought that RK is too controlling and as the drama unfolded esp during the Malik track, I realized that he was so right in doing so. I don't think anyone else could have controlled Madhu. She was always safe and stayed outta trouble when she was with RK. Lol..

I didn't watch the episode but from read the update. This is classic Madhu who gets herself and her family in trouble for her random missions and crusades. I realize that this is all her kindness and goodness but she needs to be mindful of consequences.

My rant is that I never liked RK n Dipali equation, and I can't like Madhu n Sultan together.. Thank CVs for Sultan's wife.. I hope she is alive, and comes back soon. I don't care if the entire universe falls for
Madhu n RK respectively but I can't see them with anyone else even in their wildest dreams..

My rant is about Su;ltan --come on what kind of a don is he? HE is the Sultan of Mumbai??? From what angle??? EVery don does have at least 3 trusted henchmen who would give their lives for their leader and family. Where are they? Sultan is a rookie don, trying to gather a team or something, abhi selection nahin hua types???
Forget the mother of all gangster movies...Godfather, closer home, we have Company, Satya, Sarkar...Ajay Devgan in OUATIM, Amitabh Bachchan in Sarkar, OR SRK in Don...they exude power. It's hardly been any time since he's landed in Mumbai, calls himself whatever, and he's left with his Kaka and his 5 year old son, and of course, one damsel who loves to help people in distress?

Hmmppf... I tried very hard to give this character a chance, but he 's really not  upto the mark. He's lost his big chance, at least for me. Not that it is earth shattering in any which way what I think, but just saying

attached is a song from Satya...enjoy your weekend...(trying to get an english
 translation)

Sultan is a loner. He doesn't trust anyone - no lieutenants or sidekicks for him. He does things alone. Kaka and the boy are the only two he allows  in his circle.
He does have a band of goondas (remember his posse when he went windshield breaking) but they're just extra arms and legs. He's the brains and he likes to go at it alone.

My Journey from Beautician to Surgeon - By Madhubala Samsher Malik

Reporter: I am here today with the multi talented  Miss Madhubala Samsher Malik. Welcome to the show Madhubala. Can you please briefly decribe your journey for our viewers?

Madhu: Gladly. I am a beautician by profession. I was on a hiatus for last 6  months, actually more like working exclusively with a client doing his champi, being his nurse amongst other things. Now that client has lost interest in further beauty serivces, so I became a hair dresser on a film set. That was a short stint after which I thought maybe nanny will be the best job for me. I looked after a 5-year old for a couple of days, you know teaching him prayers, telling him parion ki kahani. However my dil was not really in it. I wanted to seek thrill, adventure in life.

Reporter: Oh, so how did you go about it?

Madhu: I am just coming to that. This 5-year old's dad was playing Holi with his friend (not sure what calendar they follow for the festivals by the way), and his dad's friend Bhujang squired some red liquid on his dad's shirt and I don't know how the bottle cap got lodged in his shoulder. These people nowadays, I tell you...

Reporter: <intrigued> So what happened?

Madhu: Well, I happened to be there. I took one look at his face and took an instant decision. I will help this poor soul by fixing his shoulder. For that I will have to become a surgeon even though I don't know first thing about it. I mean, if I can wield a hair dryer, how difficult is it to wield a hot knife. You know what I mean?

Reporter: <Speechless>

Thank you so much..Liked this poster with just Sultan and his grit and resilience.  For me everywhere it was positive and rebounding with energy until Madhu showed up her brain...Madhu needs to be passive. She does not make it a happy feel if she becomes active.  Look at this poster...the man looks strong and the lighter revived him.

And in contrast...throughout the rest of the episode, Sultan turns a weak man before Madhu. She renders him totally weak and that hurt me to no extent. It was a stab on my heart.  I really need something..some positive energy for this man...something he creates it himself without Madhu getting active, without her forcing her help.

Now CVs can I be spared of Madhu's kindness drama ? You sent away Rishabh Kundra from his madness, likewise can we be spared from Madhu-sweet tonic care.

I would like to watch Sultan drama with him being active and not through Madhu's point of view...No Conrad or Jamesian types of Point of View Narratives. I guess you people are getting it...all that ramble...is leading to how Sultan may have flashbacks of his wife.
