Episode 178 Discussion: 25th Jan 2013

Balraj Hungama begins Part-1

Events of the Episode
  • Key events being Balraj reveals to everyone that it is him, that Trishna did not tell her family that he was her producer.
  • Madhu and RK confront Balraj and he tells them his plan that they both are going to be executed by him. RK on his way by his men and Madhu right here in his presence.
  • Balraj ties up everyone.
  • Must watch episode as the action drama cannot be described. The actions and dialogues speak for themselves. Stars of the episode is Balraj himself beating his contender Madhu for the star position, performance wise. However, besides that, the entire cast was supportive towards Balraj hungama, including the Bhatias.
Episode Reviews
By Pnars
Today was paisa vasool bakwaas for me. There were gems in the dialogues but some jarring scenes that highlighted what always drives me crazy in Bollywood movies: the abandonment of logic!

I am very willing to suspend disbelief and play along with the bizarre pillars-set by the water, and the absence of any guests at the wedding. However, what got my goat was -

1. RK driving to the venue with a Bluetooth stuck in his ear FAILS TO CALL THE COPS! At least make an attempt to call 100 and mutter about no signal! It's not enough to say "Main aa raha hoon Madhu" - bring the firepower to shock and awe the enemy, man!

2. Madhu likewise keeps glaring at Ballu at the beginning of the epi WITH A BLACKBERRY IN HER HAND. Use your brains and call the cops the minute a drunk crazy barges into your parents' wedding!

3. RK's car is sorrounded by goons. He's sitting safely in a Honda. What does a person with any brains do? He uses his car as a weapon to maximum effect. No, our hero has to get down from the car, defenceless and face 8-10 goons armed with hockey sticks, chains and what not. Vah reh vah!

What I did like (this being my favourite serial, still!):

1. Madhu's spunk - she faced her crazy dad down and won the battle of the eyeballs. She was the only one there not terrified of him. Perhaps Shamsher was not either, but "haraamzaades" uttered when bound and held back are laughable.

2. Balraj - the man is in his element. He's gonna let the locks fly and have a ball till he's shot!! Raj Zutshi is totally enjoying himself and it shows.

3. Padmini played the Nirupa Roy part very well...the "bhagwaan key liye meri bacchi ko chhod do" was a classic piece of dialogue delivered with conviction...

4. The dialogues - were out of this world. There were too many gems to quote...I'm going to watch it again just for Ballu's lines.

Paisa vasool bakwas!

In continuation by myself
Pnars you said it for me. I don't have to say anything. But still; writing leaving what you wrote...So mine is complimentary towards yours.

For the few jarring dialogues from Madhu to blend her RK Gunpowder into her confrontation with her Dad made me laugh. She was doing very well matching her Dad in craziness, madness and anger without her RK batterypower...so he was not needed for her to be keeping herself reminded that she has a firepower husband that she can boast.

And likewise RK and his slow driving and placid sitting at the helm of the wheel, was also making me laugh. Yaar he is a superstar and superpower, but itna Super confidence.

And what I liked. No more mystery or under the wraps. Balraj revealed to all that Trishna hid the fact from her family that he is her producer. Everyone feels cheated and Trishna feels a little remorseful. But people cannot do anything because it is not the time, it is now time to deal with Balraj. And actually that gives Madhu her added angst and craziness to confront Balraj. Yes, what is left ? She had heard only stories about this man. But now she sees LIVE FEAR in the eyes of her mother, sister and LATENT ANGER in the eyes of her foster father. All that she ever wondered about this man comes to surface.

Balraj, undoubtedly was at his best. The way he called Shamsher "Saand" and that my "Choudhrain" is your "Bhabhi" and which made Madhu defend her mother and father and said to him "Balraj Singh Choudhry, Tum mere Maa ke Pati Ab nahin"...something like that... was too good.
I still don't understand though, why Madhu  needed to tell Balraj about her husband being Rishabh Kundra. Except that it helped to connect RK to the Balraj Hungaama here and to let people/his family know what's going to happen to him. Contrived Dialogue and so Out of Place in that scene for Madhu character. How many times in real, actually the involved people forget their near and dear loved ones in the heat of the moment if missing on the scene. I know it for real and hence VERY JARRING Disconnected and badly seamed dialogue for me.

Dialogues were good, except when they wanted to create MEGASTAR image for Madhu and RK.
Otherwise all the other characters and actors were in form. The Bhatias especially as the MUTE spectators and caught in the middle drama was interesting to watch. They were so shocked that they did not even taunt at the Maliks/Choudhry's that they are caught unnecessarily.  And of all the people, Dipali got the honours for getting tied under the Shaadi Mandap.

Because of jarring dialogues and occasional missing blend, I rate the episode as B + rated episode. Yes, I liked it and so cannot miss my PLUS. Watch it, to listen Madhu, saying I give two hoots for your Guruji's prophecy.

Analysis of Prophecy and Balraj track was done in yesterday's ED thread over Page 3, 4 and 5. Please read over there, if interested.

As Shri and Pnars have already addressed some of the clunks in the ep (thanks and kudos dears), I'm going to focus on Madhu today.
I've always said both Madhu and Trishna have inherited things from their father- today we saw Madhu as a true Chaudrahin- fearless, defiant, and unwilling to give into the man who terrified everyone else. The passion in her blood is her birth right from her father- her determination and faith are gifted to her by her mother.
I liked how both daughter and father referenced Devi Maiya, and for it highlights their similarities even more- one is determined to give back an unwanted "gift" and the other has full faith that it is not she who will die that day. Wonderful performances by both actors.
I already posted this in the media discussion thread, but I'll ask again: RK, if you are not going to call the police (it's a serial, they are useless anyway), why didn't you bring your bodyguards? Are paparazzi that much worse than Balraj's thugs?

Have been a silent reader always..Love all of your analysis and predictions. But had to make a post today..It was RZ all the way today..He was absolutely awesome today -- with his dialogue delivery (even though could not understand some of them), his expressions and his antics.. absolutely brilliant actor.
DD matched up... In some of the scenes the side shots showed DD with her angry expressions but the direct shots of her were different -- her eye expressions did not match up with the side shots eye expressions! That was a bummer for me. The others supported well.
The episode was too filmy for my taste where logic is usually thrown out the window
But it could be just watched for Balraj.

By Zoya
This was a fantastic beginning to the filmy drama.  The day belonged to both Balraj and Madhu..

Balraj: Hats off to RZ and RS for the commendable performance and dialogues respectively.
Balraj was at his maniacal best with his body language, expressions and powerful dialogues. He reveals to all that he is Trish's producer to all and sundry. I felt the family could have given better shocking expressions.. He also reveals that his goons would finish off RK. He was kinda impressed with the Chaudhrain blood traits that Madhu has but it sort of unnerved him too. And for a man, who calls himself bhagwan did not dare to do anything to Madhu near the Devi Ma idol.

Madhu: Her sherni attitude was on full display. She was totally fearless, looking squarely into Ballu's eyes without even a hint of trepidation in her eyes. She saying that the prophecy might as well go to hell and that he would never be able to harm her with her Devi Ma, Ma and RK with her. This somewhat summarized the "Hauslon ke veer" chants of all the three of them... Some of her dialogues were really impactful, some not necessary but just to up the larger-than-life drama quotient. She had seen her mother as being the fighter and survivor and hence tells Balraj that she is no more the helpless woman who fled Motihari...

Trishna: It's to be seen what she would do to win back her family. Her dreams of wanting a flourishing career and family together is at stake...
Padmini: She was the abla-naari today...
Shamsher: He was boring with his haraamzaade's
Bhatias: I feel they were more amused than anything else  at the sight in front...

Edit: The entire team did quite a fab job. We were promised a B'wood style drama with less brain, more brawn and punch dialogues and we are being shown just that..

By Zorica
Too dramatic for my taste.
But I have to give credit to the actor Raj Zutshi. Excellent acting! Thanks to his performance this makes some sense.
DD is also very good, but Pallavi was worse than usual.
In this episode VD was totally unconvincing. You have seen that it's not on the poster.

Episode 177 Discussion: 24th Jan 2013

Padmini-Shamsher ki shaadi mein Ballu deewana.  Balraj Hungama Starts in RK Action Film.

Events of the episode
  1. Roma is caught by Balraj and held captive by his men at Ratna Studios. Balraj and his men then leave the premises to attend Padmini-Shamsher's wedding. At the chawl, everyone is getting ready for the marriage in peace as Roma has told them that she will reach the marriage venue by herself after running the errands that she set out to finish.
  2. Trishna and Madhu are dressed and then later get Padmini and Shamsher ready for the marriage. Padmini and Shamsher as the Dulha-Dulhan look great. Must watch seen. See the poster below by Zorica, how the daughers are getting the mother ready and how the bride and groom look beautiful.
  3. The daughters and the parents reach the marriage venue over City outskirts. Cannot describe the set. People need to watch the episode to check the set creation and decoration. The 4 Bhatias reach the marriage venue in another car. Madhu receives them. There are no other Baaraatis except the close family members. Only workers present at the venue, who later are shown to be as thugs of Balraj who have tied up real workers.
  4. Madhu then tries contacting Roma and RK who are the only ones missing from near family. Wonder why Bittuji is not present. Roma is unreachable. But RK calls her. Madhu discloses to RK that her mother was apprehensive as she dreamt that the Shaitan is back to avenge himself. RK asks her to tell all and ends knowing that Madhu's real dad's name is Balraj Singh Choudhary, who is none other the producer he appointed for producing Trishna's movie.
  5. Here at the Mandap, Balraj comes dressed as the Dulha himself and takes everyone as hostage to his drama. Shamsher, who had set out to protect Padmini is helplessly tied in ropes when he relents to Balraj's threat of shooting  down Padmini.

Episode Reviews
Action drama continues in RK Action Film of his Saasuma-Sasurji marriage. :)

A grand Shaadi ka Venue arranged WITH NO BAARAATI from bride or groom's sides. Very Private Ceremony with close relatives only. Why O Why? Because RK is a superstar and everything related should be away from Public eyes. That's one explanation I can give to a lavish set minus none of Padmini and Shamsher's close friends absence from the mandap, including their close friend Sudhakar or Divakar from the chawl. The other reason could be that Venue had that grand set up for Balraj and his Baaraat.

Roma is ambushed just as I expected. What purpose she has now. Well she is left and Bittuji is left. So I guess these two are the ones who will bring the Police later on.

Padmini and Shamsher as the Dulha-Dulhan were really looking beautiful. Kala teeka laga doon taaki koi nazar na lage. Sigh!!! Madhu and Trishna did not think of and see Balraj ki buri Nazar lag gayi. :(  But the way Padmini and Shamsher looked at each other at the car, awesome. I liked it very much. Later when Shamsher went to defend Padmini, that anger was pleasure to watch.

So the dream has a significance attached. Hmmm! everything gets attached ti RK. So BSC sent flowers to Trishna at his residence because he can know Trishna is hiding about heroine offer. Now Padmini dreams about BSC so that Madhu can tell RK about Balraj and RK can know how they have landed in soup....Hmmm!! Chalo I will take it in the name of entertainment.

And why were Trishna and Madhu not pulling Balraj's (the unknown man's) hands off their mother when he was touching her face, instead of shouting their lungs out. Such a filmy scene...yelling and doing nothing because they have to wait for hero to rescue the damsels in distress. They just need to yell more in challenging dialogue deliveries.

And the most interesting character of the day was SIKKY. Wohooo!!!! (Let's party !!!) He called Dips..."You are also a Chawl-waali" and I brought such an expensive Baaraat to your Chawl. He also called his father that he can find kinship in Padmini and Shamsher as they too are getting remarried like you and Mummiji. LOL!!!  It was hilarious and soothing for me to listen to his verbatim. Dips and Kuku never expected that.

Again I enjoyed the episode. Emotionally I was involved, until Sikky made me LOL and then I again quitened down only to raised heartbeats after Balraj started giving all eerie feelings with that no-talk barging in inebriated condition. It was enough to send me shiver down the spine...making me think from groom and bride standpoint...what is the meaning of this ??? My heartbeat actually raised around the same time, Shamsher's face changed...when he senses something really out of place. His pleasant face changed to panic face.

Justification of 25 lakhs spent for the high voltage drama
And as for the lakhs spent in the current Action Scenes and Set decoration for hungama around Padmini and Shamsher marriage...Simple. ACTION Scenes COST a LOT. The action director and his Stuntsmen, do not come cheap. They risk their lives and hence the cost shoots up. There is a marked premium there. And all those guns, bombs/explosion, bike scene, planks, safety nets...will cost a lot. If you ask me for the set creation and the action scene, 22 lakhs is not that expensive.  One average sized marriage Pandal set up with decoration costs 5 lakhs easily. Don't you agree. And here the space was quite wide...So if you see in that sense, it is quite cheap.

And now coming to the crores that Sourabh Tewari spent in the initial action scenes in May and RK introduction week. He had to shoot partly in Ramoji Film City in Hyd and then FilmCity in Mumbai. And all of those scenes were ACTION scenes. So he ended up spending Crores along with Promo Shoots and all Promo campaigns.

Analysis of Balraj track vis-a-vis the Prophecy and the story.

By Adhyaay-Chapter
Doubt:
As per the prophecy in the first episode, the astrologer tells Balraj "agar beti hui, toh jaise jaise uska naam hoga, tu sharmsaar hoga"
Madhu, therefore, was never meant to be the cause of his vinaash. As per this prophecy, she was supposed to bring him shame.
And for this prophecy to come to fruition, it is important that Balraj be alive and see his daughter's fame turn into his own shame. While I am enjoying the current epis, this does not really add up. Unless I am missing something here...

By SD
In part answering to Adhyaay_Chapter

About prophecy...

Its a twisted word play by the Guruji. He said the same exact thing that he knew as Balraj would do. Since the mother-son hated girl childs, they would have felt sharmsaar each day it was growing.
And the soap-writers cannot fulfill that prophecy or make it real in this 21st century. They just have to lampoon the prophetic element driving Balraj and hence the more negation by calling him "paagal".
The underlying social message cannot be ignored and Madhu doesn't have to become a superstar to tell her stupid MCP father that you are a Crap...but then yes, for viewer entertainment, she as RK's wife is now powerful.

I am playing Merry Go Round here. Already played a round with Zoya.

  1. Seems Balraj gets killed. Hard to believe, but maan lete hain. From my point of view, Balraj was supposed to be executed or get jailed himself when he tries to kill Madhu or Padmini. (Said it in my Ashes Post). With only 3 crores left from 300 crs, he was already coming to an end. Sharmsaar to waise hi ho gaya ye hungama karke.
  2. What would be the twist that saves Padmini from getting jailed ?
  3. Will Padmini marry Shamsher ?
  4. Seems RK will definitely get his Saas and Sasur married, otherwise he will be unable to have a Saat phera marriage with Madhu.  If that doesn't happen, he will not be able to leave. If he cannot leave, Radha will not stop him. If Radha & Bhatia Co. not stop him through some secret revelation, story will not move forward.
  5. And what happens to Trishna ? She can still keep the balance token amount given by Ballu to Trishna.  What will Roma say to her ?
  6. So assuming, some twist saves Padmini and she gets married to Shamsher, then RK can marry Madhu. That will make him go for executing  "Let's leave" plan. Radha ban jaayegi Rukawat and she might drop some bomb before her Rishu and Madhu. Will that bomb be about Mohan Kundra's dreams ? What was in that note paper that Madhu slyly read?
We are again back to the point where we started. So let's enjoy Ballu drama as he gets killed because this drama hold a meaning to Rishbala.

Till date Rishabh used to think, what was the reason, for the intertwining of fates between Rishabh and Madhu. He did not get an answer until he fell in love with her and found out that she is the one who is rescuing him from his abyss of hurt towards abandonment. Now when he saves Madhu from Balraj, at that time, he might realize, that not only he got to be saved, even he has become indirectly Madhu's saviour as the whole drama of Padmini -Shamsher marriage is a good riddance of Balraj from their lives (Padmini-Madhu-Trishna).
So Purpose behind Rishbala meeting is Mutual Help- this comes to a conclusion through Balraj.

So far all problems solved wherever we knew the story. What we don't know yet is Mohan Kundra story. And who is the Vault of Secrets and Story driver ever since Rishbala got married...Ms Radhaji
Radhaji and Padmini who had advised Madhu to stick to RK and keep going with marriage have so far achieved what they want. Now they already tacitly promised to each other in Chawl scene that they will not let Rishabh leave Radhaji ever now that son reconciled with mother. The only thing that can hold RK back is if something about Mohan Kundra's dreams is thrown/shown to RK. That's my gut feel.

More on Balraj
Balraj...why do we have to think he is GREAT ? Those who think he has potential, should see initial episodes. He was nothing even then. Shamsher in the train, very easily outsmarts Balraj and B could not do anything. B has brains but not the right sense. He fails because he doesn't have principles and he is the laadla of his mother with no brothers as male competitors and no other men as his mentors. For such a male chauvinist, psychologically the guy had already set out on his path of decadence. Decadence in his character is the cause of his dwindling of fortune...its like revisiting our history as to how the kings/Nawabs/Shahs lost to British East India Company back then.  Its like we need to watch Shatranj ke Khiladi...(Satyajit Ray Movie). One doesn't have to be a Hannibal per se. A decadent character as Balraj is also enough to cause us displeasure, when we think in terms of Padmini - a simple woman from Motihari.

And why does RK have to deal with Balraj - the stupid feudal lord and his mental games. So much below his mental level. I rest my opinion there. Actually AA in her FF "Always Yours" so easily had RK controlling Madhu's feudal control. As in any given day, a city bred man and his mind is always better than a village nincompoop. And honestly the story-writers did not change his character. I went and watched old episodes. Balraj, the man is same.

The new montage

There definitely needs to be an antagonism against Madhu and RK's dream of going away. They both want to go away...that is their happiness and that is what the new montage is about. Can they stay happy like they look in that montage ?

I need to get my head checked. I did not get this feeling at all when I looked at the new beautiful serene montage.

My immediate feeling was that RK is ushering Madhu into the  limelight. She is looking down, not in his eyes, nor is she smiling or looking relaxed, she is unsure even apprehensive.

Hope what you are saying is the true meaning behind the montage. Smile

MM,
Well at least, we both got the same feeling. It is something related to new journey, new time. The earlier montage had Madhu all apprehensive looking at us. Full on. And behind her Rishabh is confident looking at us, which could be watching you Madhu also.

Now this montage is where Rishabh is kinda leaning into her and her eyes looking down can also be because of shyness. It definitely has unsure feeling, but there is so much warmth in that close-up. Its no longer them looking at us. They are immersed into each other.

At Prophecy by Ananya
gave this whole balraj death and madhu related prophecy a lot of thought while my way back home from work...and concluded that by killing balraj in this manner and not fulfilling the prophecy, they are delivering a social message to address the MCP thought  process of, 'A girl child is a bane, and brings only burden and destruction to her family' , which is still prevalent to a considerable extent.

To be honest, I was initially not happy with his death track. But once I saw the underlying social message, it made perfect sense. And agree with you that Madhu does not have to be a superstar to destroy Balraj. A monster like him, deserves what Padmini is going to do to him. Superstar or no Superstar.

  • Padmini has a nightmare that Balraj has come back to avenge himself. She dreams of him killing Shamsher, herself and finally going to kill Madhu. She wakes up in panic. Madhu provides solace to her mother's tensed nerves at that premonition.
  • Roma, sets off to find out BSC producer, reaches Ratna Studios, the office of BSC Productions and there to her shock, sees Balraj Singh Choudhary. He is dressed as the bridegroom and his men tell Roma that he is getting ready to attend his wife's wedding. Roma is stumped...To be continued tomorrow.

Episode Reviews
By Myself
Wow!!!! Wonderful episode. I enjoyed every second of it.
A rated episode.
Beautiful. I feel so satisfied that my heart is full and I have no words.

The conversation between Shauhar-Biwi will take the honours today from me, because rarely I like the romantic scenes between them. But today that conversation apart from each other took all the performance STRESS away from for the Crew and the actors. The dialogue writer was natural, VD and DD were natural and screenplay was smooth with not much editing fess-ups. Its sad that for the audience, they keep showing stupid hugs that do not mean a thing, but here the attitudes and the talk, that was so much subtlety and fun to watch. As characters today, RK came out a "vexed hubby at his own good acts" but was so naturally expressing everything like a child to his Biwi and with all that attitude. And Madhu was so patient with him giving the bland answers that may have so appealed to her Shauhar. Now this one ...after a long long time was a nice scene with good dialogues and that too without any reason. As in most of the time RK and Madhu have romantic scenes as part of plot requirement to make a progress in the story, like the "sapno ka aashiana" scene which was good. Today's scene was not a dramatic progression requirement, it was a staple scene that needed to be there. And inspite of it being a staple requitement like cereal, yet the crew (writing and shooting and actors) did not mess up the scene. They gave their 100% to it.

The dream...It was an Action Thriller for Me. I enjoyed every minute of the dream. And like all action thrillers, it needs to be watched. Words can never justify action scenes. So I shall stop.

And finally Roma has found out about Balraj. She reached Ratna Studios and wants to meet BSC Producer. And Balraj is all dressed up as the Dulha.  She has been able to see Balraj and she is standing there all stumped at the revelation.   Seems she is on the verge of being caught and locked up somewhere in the dungeons.

Precap...Oh! I can't wait for tomorrow's drama. Padmini is looking so beautiful as the Dulhan.

Enjoy the episode peeps!!!!  Fultoo entertainment.

Where do we see such a convo between a hubby and wife? I loved it and VD,DD rocked the scene.
For me this is real romantic and dialogue writer.

Yesterday we witnessed Trishna's fear of being found out and today it is Padmini's turn. The very real fear of coming face to face with Ballu again is presented to her in her dreams by her subconscious mind. Interesting and strange how human mind works. Makes us face our fears when we are least prepared. Poor woman is devastated in the dream thinking Malik is dead and Ballu has caught hold of Madhu.

Padmini wakes up and goes out in the chawl angan and Madhu happens to wake up and follow her. Padmini relays her dream and her fears to Madhu and Madhu as usual says ha abhi sab kuch thik hoga waigaira. She just sweeps Padmini's fears under the carpet so to speak. Not her fault  since she does not really know or has any experience about Ballu kya cheese hai.  I so wish it was Trishna who woke up and had this convo with Padmini. Then it would indeed have felt realistic,  scene would have had some weightage to it. Trishna could at least have acknowledged this fear in a real sense and consoled her saying ki 'Ma tum ghabrao mat. Woh abhi wapa aye to Madhu ko bachane ke liye ab hamare sath Malik aur RK hain".  Such an emotionally charged scene, I feel enough justice was not done to convey the seriousness of it.

By Tanu
Padmini's dream was elaborate and scary. The scene she woke up from the nightmare and kissed her daughters was beautiful. Then she walked out to ensure even Malik was fine… when she closed the door and headed out, I expected her to sit by Malik. And they have a meaningful conversation especially with just few hours to go for their wedding. But that wasn't to happen. They showcased Malik-Padmini's relationship brilliantly till their confession… after that the couple haven't even had a proper conversation. Even the wedding is from RK-Madhu, Trishna and Roma's perspective and not the couple's. I am disappointed because every like most of the love stories even Malik-Padmini's story headed nowhere after their confession. I hope I don't have to say the same about the protagonists atleast.
Ballu is going to dominate the story for a week or so. No doubt RZ is fantastic actor… but Ballu's dialect and the jarring background music seems to hamper the clarity of Ballu's dialogues. I didn't understand a word he said today except for 'no bak bak'. Frankly not looking forward to recreation of sholay.

By Zoya
It was a very entertaining episode with the right mix of breeziness, suspense, drama and action.

RK-Madhu scene: It has to be the scene of the day. RK was just being his difficult self and irritated with himself for sending her away and hence showing out his frustration to his biwi who indulged him in  his meaningless banter. He did not rest till he bhadkaoed her and got to hear her sherni voice... The dialogues, expressions, everything was just superb...

Nightmare: It was an equally good scene but  prolly the fact that I knew it was just a nightmare stole the thunder away from the scene. But Padmini's fear, expressions were well-elaborated and PP was fantastic in that scene. Finally she checks on both her daughters n Malik and lands up at the staircase where Madhu consoles her. Madhu provides her the much needed strength by chanting the "Hauslon se veer" chant.
I am quite confused with Madhu's expressions at the end of the scene. Did she actually think of the balraj she saw ?

Roma's CIDgiri bears fruit and she lands up at Ballu's place to witness Ballu who is getting ready for his chaudrain's marriage with sehra, ghoda and complete baaraat comprised of gundas...  She stands perplexed at the sight in front of her...
But was finding about Trish's suspicious producer important on the auspicious day of her bro's marriage?

Precap: Complete popcorn entertainment and we can gear up for full-on action sequences for the next 2-3 episodes...

By Leela
Loved the RK-Madhu scene. Performance, dialogue, reactions, everything - perfect.
The Balraj-in-Padmini's-nightmare scene, I was thoroughly distracted from Raj Zutshi's excellent acting and the spot-on reactions of everyone else by the three women repeatedly doing near-synchronized screams.
The Padmini-Madhu scene was very well-etched.
Roma's focus on finding out the identity of Trishna's producer is admirable, but prioritizng it over her brother's wedding was hard to believe. Anyway, it acted as catalyst to ensure that she saw Balraj.

By Bhakti
I too liked the first scenes with the lovely nok-jhok pati patni ke beech (love the way Shri has called this scene as a drama staple - like cereal! ) RK reminds me so of a little boy who is just beginning to understand the scope of what he can get away with in terms of romantic play.  And the dinosaur walla lines!  So cute.  I know I have sometimes complained that the romantic scenes get a bit too chasni-jaisi-mithi, but it does not strike me as at all odd that a couple would choose to look at the moon as a way of being together. This is actually quite  a common thought in India - even Sri Ram and Sitaji have done this! It seems a lovely thought; it doesn't remove your longing, but at least you feel someone (chandrama) understands and is shining the same light on your beloved.

So many have mentioned Roma (Leela also commented that it is strange she would be jasoosing all over the place while it is about to be the shaadi of her brother) I just love her character right now.  Even with her family obligations, she smells a rat and is chasing it down like a protective girl-on-a-mission.  Sometimes, even when the baraat is coming down the street and the shenai is wailing away, if you feel your family is in danger you are still going to keep that thought foremost in your mind - I think that is Roma right now.  I wonder if Ballu will notice her?

Well, I guess action shuru ho gaya - this Ballu is a skin-crawl-inducing madman and Padmini seems to scent him on the wind.  This is the sort of plotline which has dismayingly and repeatedly proved to me what an incredible wimp and coward I am.  I know these are the most exciting parts of any action-filled drama, but i usually can only watch them through my fingers while I am curled up in a self-protective ball. (My poor husband has spent two or three entire films in cinema halls where I have buried my face in his shoulder and refused to come out for half the film!  (Maybe I should introduce him to RK's dhobiwalla - the one who recommends tears for shirt-laundering.  My husband could also benefit from this very economical system!)

Knowing you all will be watching too will give me himmat to keep on - I will look so forward to reading all your analyses!

By Myself
@Ballu's dialogues. Even I had a problem listening to the first part of his dialogue delivery thru Shamsher. At first I thought my speakers were bad. Then I recalled the SBS video that I watched this morning and pieced that Raj Zutshi is not clear himself.  Its just that in the scenes today, he was too passionate in his anger where he was mincing words...like it happens in real. Look at his quivering lips. I could understand all the dialogues...like Saand, bak-bak and all...it was good. I should say he was too good for TV soap. His kind of acting and dialogue delivery today needs absolute eerie silence like he can get in movies. Anyways, as RZ's days are numbered, let's enjoy him as an actor with caliber.

@episode scenesAnd last but not least, like the way some of you had hawk-eye for details/bloopers/puzzling expressions inspite of the entertaining episode; lets add another one...though this shouldn't count at all in my eyes...In dream sequence, they had Madhu, Padmini and Trishna sleeping in this order whereas when Padmini wakes up, they had the order changed.

Another scene I liked was, when Padmini says she will sleep on the floor, both the daughters in chorus say No. And how Padmini was taking Roma's name for help. When she was coming out of the Apt, I though she was coming down to Roma for consolation as she is her best friend...but she sat on the stairs instead and our heroine had to be the consoling one.  Feel terrible that all soaps and movies make the heroine shoulder so much responsibility. And here we are thinking that Trishna or Roma would have suited better to console Padmini. Seriously why waste actors and characters when they fit the bill. Why just make the hero and heroine so MAHAAN for everything. Sigh!!!

Padmini aur Shamsher ki Shaadi ki Tareekh pakki ho gayi - 23rd Jan 2013
Episode 167 Discussion: 11th Jan 2013

Events of the Episode
Episode had minor shooting bloopers visible. DD strolling around with Mehndi scenes even before Mehdi Hassan applied Mehndi on her hands. Otherwise, kudos to CVs for seamlessly building in other scenes along with VD scenes in these VD vacation days!
  1. Episode starts with Madhu strolling in to her maternal home and seeing her Deedu and her mother going about their chores in silence. Roma is shown walking towards her brother's apt after living thru the fiasco she had with Trishna's hidden money ka barsaat on her. She wants to question Trishna about it, but before she can do that, she sees the Pandit.
  2. Pandit gives the date of 23rd Jan for Padmini and Shamsher's wedding.
  3. Madhu and Trishna arrange for Mehndi and Sangeet ceremony for their parents. Padmini and shamsher look beautiful and so the two daughters and Roma in their respective attires. All look simple and yet gorgeous for the occassion.
  4. Mehndi Hassan the henna wallah is sent by RK for the Mehndi ceremony. He adorns Padmini's hands and later also applies over Madhu; his chaand Biwi's hands.
  5. RK calls Madhu to the sets where he is shooting to take the gift that he planned to give the bride and the groom. Madhu goes.
  6. RK is shooting a romantic scene. Madhu and RK are feeling uncomfortable; at her watching him doing his romantic scenes with his heroine and him doing the romantic scene with her around the set. RK was visibly affected by her presence at the set watching him do his romantic scenes. The attempt to disperse the awkwardness between them is beautiful to watch...RK: Tum itni Chup kyon ho (why are you so silent)? Madhu: Infact, Tum kuch bol nahin rahe (you are not talking).
  7. Madhu offers to go away as she was affecting his work. RK holds her back, gives the gift planned and sees the mehndi on her hands. Praises her beautiful hands and again lost in her eyes (RK's goner now!)...episode ends
Episode Review - My take

Are Bol Radha Bol, Sangam Hoga ki Nahin ?!!

Interesting episode with a lot of foreboding for the D'Day which is 23rd Jan.

Targets being fixed for the date are:
  • Active - Padmini- Shamsher wedding
  • Passive - Madhu and RK's wish to finish the rest of the three pheras in that wedding for that becomes the reason for Mehndi Hassan lamenting that he could not apply henna for Madhu for her marriage and pat comes MAdhu's reply that he can now and she remembers RK's waada to her that they shall get married in full.
Although nothing can stop them wishing for these events, Balraj has his plans for the D'Day to kill his Chaudhrain and his Vinaashbala. Question...how will he get to know the date of the marriage ? I wonder !  And the precap, seems to have dampened the mood for Rishbala...Sigh !!!

And another foreboding...already Madhu and RK are feeling uncomfortable at her watching him doing his romantic scenes with his heroines and him doing the romantic scenes with her around the set. Hmmm! their love affecting his work.

Seems Trishna had to patch up with Madhu for Mehndi and Sangeet ceremony, to avoid her heavy brooding on her signing the film with Balraj...and that brooding is already tipping Roma that something is definitely wrong.

And the beautiful people of the Day - Padmini and Shamsher
Both of them were looking so beautiful and handsome. And Shamsher with his awesome smile had me Oooh when he smiled and said, "Shaadi bhi nahin hui, aur abhi se Var aur Vadhu". He is one HAPPY MAN!!!!

The attempt to disperse the awkwardness between Rishbala was beautiful to see...RK: Tum itni Chup kyon ho (why are you so silent)? Madhu: Infact, Tum kuch bol nahin rahe (you are not talking). Yeah! Madhu reminded me that usually it is him who talks all the way and does everything.
RK was visibly affected by her presence at the set watching him do his romantic scenes. Now I wonder why would that happen. It is natural that Madhu feels discomfort  that she is having to watch him holding someone else than her (can I risk saying envious...because that is a genuine and honest feeling...even I couldn't watch any other female with Andrew )...but why was he is so hesitant and disturbed ? So does RK's heart actually flutter nowadays when he sees Madhu?
Until few days back...until he showed his dream house to Madhu and he saw her reaction to his will , Rishabh Kundra was all about "Madhu you are mine, I Love You and I know you Love me...No doubt about it"

At their dream house scene, he was overwhelmed by her concern and thought for him...remembering his dad's chair. And at the time of will in making scene, for the first time, she shut him to say, she loves him more than him and his ego not minding her having an upperhand. Though it never hurts us or Madhu for him to have an upperhand always, because he is so right in all cases considering the way he thinks and considering the way Madhu responds to him in an overall manner, it is actually pleasing for all of us to see that it does not hurt him anymore for him to listen to her, or have nothing to answer her back or show his attitude. This way it is a little bit healthy with balance being restored in their relationship, considering they are both good human beings. Much needed healthy balance between them...that can slowly fill up Rishabh's mind with security and slowly loosen himself...

Now is this losing bit by bit his ego, his insecurity when in love with Madhu, now causing him to feel all jittery in Madhu's presence ? There was a time, when Madhu was a goner. Today, we saw RK losing himself, his ground...he was being a goner in love with Madhu.

So how has their relationship progressed and what held it all along for them ?
Enigma, Sensitivity, Trust and Softness for Each Other

I would say, unknown phase, hate phase, knowing phase, of falling in love phase, they never had problem trusting each other. Infact of all things that they knew about each other was to trust each other in every manner about their selves inspite of having all the differences between each other. They never had doubts about each other's intents except the time when Madhu got caught in Kuku and Sikky's scheme to get RK's fathers pics published. Then RK was hurt and felt betrayed and yet he did not let her go. Likewise tomorrow, will be another day when RK gets caught with Dips ploy of love test for Madhu. Now Madhu will be hurt and felt betrayed. I am sure, she too will not let him go...because these two though hurt themselves, they cannot see the other person hurt and in pain. Then RK after avenging himself by getting Shamsher sign the contract, he became Madhu's doctor forcefully inspite of him too crying during the day. And now, we don't know what Madhu will do to RK, but question is will she be able to see him in pain.

And what will keep holding them together ? I guess the Enigma will get replaced by Knowledge and everything else shall remain the same...

Episode 166 Discussion: 10th Jan 2013

Paison ki Khairaat !! Paison ki Barsaat !!! Maze loote ya Darr jaayen !!!!
Episode 166 Discussion: 10th Jan 2013
Events of the Episode
  1. Trishna realizes through her musing that if her family of Padmini, Shamsher and Roma get to know that she signed for a movie with Balraj, she would be asked to prepared to lose her family. She is in a fix.
  2. RK and Madhu still discussing Balraj's visit to RK Mansion. RK upset why Balraj came to his house. Madhu tells him Balraj asked her to tell RK that work assigned to him is done. RK is relieved that work is done and also Balraj did not reveal anything about it to Madhu. Upon Madhu's asking, RK says the work assigned was about a small acting opportunity. Madhu goes on to tell RK that Balraj was calling her his daughter-like and the events around his coming.
  3. Bittuji comes and RK sends away Madhu to get tea for him. RK asks Bittuji to take care that Balraj never enters his house again and he doesn't like random people building relationships with his wife and him. Both of them are happy that Trishna signed the contract.
  4. RK is meeting up with his lawyer in his room and we are shown that RK is getting his will done. He bequeaths all his money and assets as following. 50 crs for his mother, 10 cr for Kuku, Sikky and Dips Bhatia, 10 cr for Padmini and Shamsher, 10 cr for Trishna (nothing for Roma), 10 crs for Bittuji and remaining assets of property, cash and gadgets, studios for Film Fraternity and Technicians.

  6. At the chawl, we are again shown wedding arrangements being done and this time, Sudhakar, friend of Shamsher getting the groom dress for him. Nice scene with shamsher there feeling all shy and edgy about having to ware flashy clothes at this past prime age. Padmini too agrees that they will look like jokers instead.
  7. Roma is watching Trishna carefully and concludes that something is amiss and that she has never seen Trishna so upset before. She goes to snoop around in her apt to find out what Trishna was hiding. She finds the briefcase filled with cash. And as she pulls it, its all paison ki bouchaar on her.

Big dilemma!

By Zoya
Do anmol ratan- ek Rk aur duja Madhu!!!

Aaj Sab Malamaal ho gaye!!!

Assuming RK has done 15-20(i guess a lil too much) movies in 5 years,
(15-20)movies+endorsements-taxes-OTT family expenditure=100 cr. + property. Is it a balanced equation?

Keeping aside my practical thinking, counting on the fact that RK's dream will not materialize, I must say that RK feeling le gaya yaar meri aur Madhu ki!!!

"Har kisiko mukammal jahan nahi milta, kisiko sab kuch mil jaata hai lekin pyaar nahi milta"
RK  believing in the above statement, took another step towards moving closer to his and Madhu's world. He distributes his property amongst the Bhatias, Maliks, Bittuji and the film fraternity.
Aaj jaake mujhe Madhu ki keemat pata chali hai.. Any guesses?  Dipali's so-called chawl se uthayi hui gandagi, do-kaudi ki ladki has become priceless!!!

And Madhu and RK both were right.. RK told he loves Madhu more that she loves him-- very very true!!
Madhu's apprehension that how she would manage him and nurture their love so that it keeps blooming for the entire lifetime was also very valid and must say quite a daunting thought. Here was a man who gave up literally everything for her and her love...

Coming to Trishna, the precap turned out to be a dream as expected. And she made it very clear today, that her dreams and family are equally important and that she cannot prioritize one for the other. Both should co-exist for her.. She is still shocked and doesn't know how to break the news of her film offer-what to tell and what not to... Roma sensing that something is amiss, decides to find out what it is, only to find herself bathed in paison ki baarish..

Today, we got to see
RK prioritizing Madhu over money, name, fame
Madhu prioritizing RK over family and other r'ships
and Trishna wants the best of both worlds- money and family.
But they are all similar..Their choices are different but they are all selfish. Each one is following their heart and trying to fulfill their dreams!!!

BY Myself
The best scene was Paison ki baarish over Roma.  God! I envied her so much...I wanted to go and stand in her place.  Sacchi!!!!! Oh! I wish it were me there...
I think in movies too, we had such imaginations ...like Sridevi playing in money dump ...the money she imagines to get when she sells of her hubby to Urmila.. Oh! I am imagining Scrooge in Duck Tales wallowing in his dungeons of notes and coins...

Money Money...Everywhere...One day I found a 20 $ bill on the subway steps at 2:00 AM in th dead of night...and no one was around. I was overjoyed at me being lucky with that find, that I saved it as if it was my treasure. LOL!!!

Re RK's Will writing/execution in progress

Obviously RK is in an emotional state and hence making a will that is equivalent of him negating everything in favour of only one asset, which is Madhu.  So RK is still acting on the principle to beat his past experience. He does not want to be unlucky in love and hence sacrificing the greatest happiness; his love for cinema to get love. He is willing to go by that bargain. Yes, that is his negotiation with his predicament for his future. In his negotiation, he is very much clear with his condition when speaking to Madhu. She needs to come away and abide by the life style he presents her...because Madhu did say she can leave the world for him and RK jumped at that and asked her to come away, right away. We should not forget that they both sealed their love in a very twisted manner. I still remember the Dec 14th episode, how much pain we all underwent. For me the amount of pain I underwent for the pain they inflicted on each other in the name of love for each other, I am now willing to see all this drama, where now I enjoy the results of the pain and silliness they inflicted on each other.

And obviously, all this emotion will go away and Logic will replace it when once his Insecurity about being Unlucky in Love is going to be resolved. And logically speaking this is the primary track for RK being played at this point. It started on Dec 11th and now its Jan 10th.

For Madhu, who really wants to possess him and love him (well, I will go by her dreams about him and her desires) and who doesn't have big dreams for herself, she is already having a problem...if she is gonna survive, to live to dream all this. Her problem also started on Dec 19th. And this is Madhu's primary track for herself.

What will happen who knows, when logic will replace the emotion for the two love birds ?

And about the Will execution itself...it is still work in progress
  • The lawyer has to write it
  • RK has to sign it.
  • Someone has to be witness to it. Will it be Madhu ?

And before the lawyer returns with the will typed and all, a new drama must have started...like Madhu questioning RK why does he have to think that he is Unlucky in Love.

Re RK's Will writing/execution in progress

And before the lawyer returns with the will typed and all, a new drama must have started...like Madhu questioning RK why does he have to think that he is Unlucky in Love.

Hopefully that will get RK's brain kickstarted and some real life logic will prevail.
Interestingly I always thought once Madhu finds out that RK tested her love by proposing walking away from it all, she will ask him to prove his love by staying back for the family.
Another thought- when we love someone , we instinctively try to provide him the best and all the luxuries in the world. Best clothes, best house, best education...
RK loves Madhu ...will he be happy seeing her toil in kitchen every single day struggling to gather everyday neceessities knowing that he could have showered her with so much more?

That's one point of view...I mean dekhne ka nazariya.
Not everyone considers those as luxuries. For ex: I am certainly not after BEST. I am very much okay with what I can enjoy and absorb...I don't have much and yet I feel rich. Infact material luxury starts to suffocate me.

Anyways, why should we think that the man will not be able to rebuild his life with a different career. Wouldn't he know better than his wife, what is the cost of Ghee and Oil when he wants himself to be fed that luxuriously three times a day.

Another thing...when we all said he tested Madhu's love.
I later said to myself that I was wrong in saying so...because the love confession shown to us was not flowing from his side. It was coerced by Madhu. And then under his emotional weak moments, when he is not that ready to actually say it, his insecurity gets the better of him and he pounces on Madhu who was asking for it. She wanted to tell him so much that she loves him a lot...but does she know what it is to love him(from his angry viewpoint) ? And this is where RK becomes selfish and takes advantage of her, just because she is that much into him driving him crazy by not leaving him alone to his thoughts, his fate wherever it takes him to. Since theirs was a difficult love story to happen, it would have been something like this for them.

And Madhu loves him like he is a God and allows her to be judged...this is where I am really thinking how she is gonna show her upset at finding out whatever she finds out. I guess as always, she would forgive him, crying and yet driving the remorse deep within him for acting on his insecurities. I guess, this time she will express her displeasure to him for judging her incorrectly...I am just thinking...

Question of the Day
That RK in a span of 5 years of Stardom could have a wealth of 90 crores...is kind of indigestible to me.  How much does a superstar charge per movie ? And ofcourse there is income from endorsements and showbiz events. That 90 crores is left for his disposal other than the property maintaining and maintenance of a luxurious life style...is making my eye balls grow bigger and bigger.

And what about tax payments to Govt ?

That makes me want to find out how much actually the actors make money per year. So if a movie does a 100 cr business, and if actor had a commission payment attached to it...he would get x% of the returns along with his acting fee. But did RK ever invest that kind of money for his movies with the producer...

Come on RK...cannot be an excellent money manager as well so that he could think of money minting schemes with the regular income that he earns.

Never mind people...this is the financial analyst in me ...raking its head.

Responded by dramacrazy12 towards my query
I did not think that was too much...

Based on rumours Salman Khan charges something between 30 Crore to 70 Crore per movie along with % cut of profits above a predecided revenue . Hrithik is said to have earned 100 Crores for Agneepath , Salman Khan is supposed to have charged similar amount for his next movie with Ramesh Taurani.

Each movie is a commitment of about 9-12 months and most stars are able to manage 2-4 movies per year if they work nonstop like RK. If I assume that RK made 50 crore (median) per movie on average ...he made 100-200 crores per year. Let us assume tax washes out his income from investments, endorsements and showbiz activities. He is still left with 100-200 crores per year...over 5 years that would mean 500 crores-1000 crores. With all the moochers and wastrels around him, not to mention the OTT lifestyle...it is completely probable that he ends up with 90 crores. Infact if you think about it it actually sounds on the lower side.

Glad to know you are a financial analyst so am I.

By SD
I don't remember the rates much now...but back in 2006, the only thing I remember is that I was paying 6.50/- or 8.50/- for 500 gm of Heritage Milk packet on the weekends. Now I don't know what it costs for that same 1/2 litre of milk. Rent, we know it depends on the area...where we take the house.

So today's 90 crores talk...almost started me want to catch up with reality in India now. Of course I can ask mom...but then there are always other things to talk about.

So I found these random rates for some of the actors and actresses

Then I saw that this is the Minimum Support prices available for the farmers

It has 12.50/- per kg of Rice, but in open market, i think it is around 35.00/- kg. Right ?

Then I read this. People are really surprised that we can still buy something for Re1

Check out the stuff that a rupee can buy

A rupee? When a crore is the new lakh, who cares about a rupee? Well, it's still money and therefore it can buy stuff, some very interesting stuff. ET on Sunday hit the markets in India's cities, shopping with a rupee and came up with an eye-popping list. We also looked back at what Rs 1 could buy in earlier times. Answer: a lot, a meal for two, for example.

Thinking of inflation and depreciating Rupee value...I can think of one thing I remember...
The price of one egg in local kirana shop in Hyderabad in 1983 I recall was 0.35 Paisa.  I guess now the price is between Rs 3 to 4 (as in 300 paisa to 400 paisa). So inflation or depreciation of Rupee is  around 10 times for an egg over last 30 years.

And my mother was saying last year that no maid servants would agree to work for less than Rs 800 to 1000/- now for jhaado-pocha and bartan maanjna in Hyd -tarnaka area.

And the article above says ...a crore is the new lakh...so what's the dip here ? 100 times ...scary.
So if I think in these terms...the rates of the actors do not seem surprising to me now...

Anyways...none of this digging made me any happy.  I still feel scared at thinking of life in India and if one marries and consequent responsibilities.

Now I do get the feel, how some of our reviewers are unable to get out the reality factor for RK when he did not keep any money for Madhu.

But then...the zindadil will just say...zindagi jeeni chaahiye, sirf sochna nahin...aur zindagi kat hi jaati hai...jaise taise. Kuch bhi ho himmat honi chaahiye, jigar hona chaahiye aur jeene ka matlab hona chaahiye. Right ?
