Episode 152 Discussion: 24th Dec 2012 (Page 7)

@Dramacrazy

>>>>2)I have always believed that Madhubala was the protagonist of the show and ishq part of tagline talked of her feelings while junoon part refered to RK. However lately I am beginning to revise my opinion-maybe the name points to the central theme of the show "Madhubala" who was someone's love (RK) and someone's obsession (Dips/trishna's to destroy or maybe a costar's to possess, or maybe public obsession for her beauty and work).

Puja,
Not sure if you are watching the show from the beginning. But you need to understand Rishabh Kunda and Madhubala story from the vantage of Hum Hai Deewane Tere Deewana song. That's an OST and writtent especially to eulogize Rishbala relationship.

The song explains that it is Ishq and Junoon for both of them. Just that one doesn't want to define it and yet gets the pleasure out of it and the other is so clear about it that he is stuck between pleasure and pain.

Here is the song...

@MarathiMulgi

>>>>His latest decision about leaving everything (power, fame, wealth, status) that he has worked hard for has us all intrigued. We are all questioning why does he want to do that when he now has one thing that has eluded him in the past - namely love. However I did not in any scene saw Madhu question or confront him about his decision, discuss what it might mean (trials and hardships of establishing oneself all over again). She is blindly nodding her head to this. That is not what a patni should do. She needs to participate in this decision, be a part of it and not let him do it one sided. The reason for that is, he is now married, not a single man who would decide both their fates single handedly. He decided her fate before again he plans to do it again.

I shall call you MM for ease. Hope you don't mind.

I agree with your exposite on their state of minds and how they see each other from where they stand. Clearly there is a lot of difference and they will always have to bridge the gap...the way they are trying to do...in the present theme of Let's leave everything and settle down somewhere else, begin everything ANEW.

The excerpt I took from your earlier post (pasted above) says that Madhu needs to participate in the decision making. If you really see it, Madhu actually has influenced RK to heed to what she wants. He wanted her to come away RIGHT NOW. But Madhu resisted and now RK is doing what she wants ...SETTING EVERYTHING RIGHT FOR HER, according to her way of HAPPINESS.

The relationship is complex and beautiful in the sense that the sense of possession for each of them is not about objectified possession but sense of DEVOTION to each other.

Madhu says...You are my God and You are my Judge. I accept all your wishes even if they are not of my liking.

Tujh se hasee, tujh se udaasi
Kadmaakash hai rabba
Roothi hoon phir bhi raazi
Tu hi hai maula Tu hi hai Qazi
Kya karoon bayaan
Tere Ishq pe jaan Qurbaan

Rishabh Kundra says...I don't belong to THIS world and You are Mine (My world) and yet there is THIS DISTANCE.

Kitni baar hum milke bicchde
tu hi jaane rabba
Duniya se hum begaane
Tu hai sirf Meri, Phir bhi na jaane
Mujh ko tu ye bataa
Dooriyan hai kyon darmiyaan

But that Rishabh shows us hope that they are going to win over each distance that they create for each other because, Rishabh is so sure and resolved about it to remove and Madhu will accept it forever, because those very actions of RIshabh bring her pleasure and pain. She cannot see his pain and she cannot keep away from the pleasure he gives her through his actions. So She will walk towards him as keeps building that bridge between them for her to walk in coming towards him. And as for Madhu, walking towards a revered person such as God is not going to be easy...there are so many things that she needs to leave behind, which is another maya-jaal for her.

Excellent post!! Really liked it.

Can anyone tell me...why Madhu loves Rishabh Kundra ?
Thought provoking question. Just my 2 cents here for what it is worth.
Does Madhu love Rishabh Kundra or does she revere RK the superstar? From what I understand, it all started when she realized that he knew all along who was behind the attack on him and he still let him go. I think she just worships him no questions asked, not loves him. In the love there is give and take. With Madhu it is only give.

You are right. In the confession scene we don't know why she loves him. She proclaims she just does and can't express how much. She did come across a bit tongue tied, weak in there. All the passion was expressed on his side, not hers.

Maybe as you say keeping this 7 pheras incomplete is a right move till CVs reveal some clues about this.

Good read...

MM,
Thank you for the response.Big smile

That reverence was her realization that he indeed can become her God! That song played by the side of the lake was apt meaning for her feelings towards him. This is Rishabh telling her his three deceits felt hard and why he wanted to shield her from same kind of lost trust.

But then what of the other two feelings:
1) the tug at her heart when she sees him almost dying with that bullet wound. What was that feeling ? Why is she so nervous of losing herself to him and confessing the same to her mother ?...because she starts knowing the true man...the man beneath the persona she got married to. Now can we please have her verbalize that ? And not expressed in tears, wonderment and confusion...drama goes on and we await the revelation on One Fine Day

2) Why that Pareshaan Pareshaan song ? yes, we can see she is totally lost into him post her realization of being reverential to him. So that does indicate that she loves him to the point of losing herself, her identity. But again, can we have a justification there and not just the song to go by....as in viewers need Madhu to tell us and RK why she loves him. She needs to actually be shown losing into his memories by remembering things about him that make her go crazy.

Now does anyone of us know...what are the 5 things (if not 10) about RK that made her go crazily fall in love with him. Come on! every love story has some moments of endearing feelings and all we could see from her perspective was the protection she got in Shamsher track and how he saved her in studio (was that infact the second scene that she remembered ?). So does she love him for the protection he offers to her ? Is that enough for a robust love story ? LOL

@Shri,

It is indeed very very intriguing as to why Madhu loves RK so much. I have been pondering over this ever since the Ganpati track, which marked the beginning of her feelings for him amidst lot of inner battle and confusion. But, as you said, it still is a mystery to us viewers and RK. Somehow, I don't feel RK is even inclined to know all the reasons she might have to love him. He just wants her to run away with him.LOL

By SD

@bold
We know his reasons. CLEARLY expressed by him. The man is too clear...more than we need him to be.LOL To fight his insecurity. He is that selfish and he is unabashed to express it. He was honest in showing his piteous face. And what was Madhu doing...just smiling and hugging him.

I know I am far maturer than Madhu. Therefore if I was to play the part of Zohra Sehgal  like a granny overlooking RK and MB's love scenes from 28th Dec, I would have felt in my heart a lot of incompleteness in that.

To remind you RK's reason
Jis pal mile ishq woh, jo ta-umra chalne ka waada kare |
Ke zindagi us pal se jeene ka, aa khoobsurat irada kare ||

By Ananya
Shri,

@red: LOL. Yes I remember. He was going on and on about his reasons to join film industry and his reasons to yearn for a quieter life with her and she just keeps on smiling in response, which his a characteristic trait I have seen developing in after she confessed her love for him to herself.(Episode 23rd Nov 2012). What I am trying to say is, she has never questioned him for anything whatsoever. She just quietly gives in to his commands. Remember how he shows his fake anger over her in the studio when she asks her if he also gets his treatment done from the same psychiatrist, and in an instant she apologizes. Even she knows he wasn't all that angry, but still says sorry and runs away. She doesn't want to argue with him when it comes to his feelings(be it anger or love).
I don't know if I am able to put my point across, but Shri, being an intelligent mind, I am sure you would understand.Wink

By SD
And this is why the MU fight is coming up. Because there is that UNDERLYING NEED as well. Hope they show it convincingly. I am really looking forward to see how she will question him when she herself gave him all the rights to assume her docility. She allowed herself to be tested and proving her love  (over Dec 18th episode...pyaar saabit karne ka koi tareeka hai to batao) and now how can she get upset why he tested her...if she does not want him playing with Dipali, now why does it hurt her that RK was led by her.

The girl just is beginning to know...ROFL  that pyaar karna is not just being lost in looking at your beau. It means to think also.

Look at this pic by Zorica. Madhu needs to have that maturity as RK.

Good relationship takes a lot of efforts, dedication, tolerance, understanding, trust. For all this you need to be a mature person.

hey Zorica,

Can you paste this poster here ? Very apt meaning...a contemplation leading to that level of completeness.

Shri, Why Madhu loves RK is a million-dollar question till the CV's come up with something and I remember we spent quite a lot of time the other day discussing about it. And we could not come up with anything apart from the maula factor. I still remember the conversation very vividly

Take her song: She is unable to describe what kind of a love/ madness she possesses towards him, she asks God what kind of love is it? He provided the karaar in her bekaraar, then her happiness and sadness got associated with his, then finally he became her maula and qazi, thus satisfying her lines, with the last part came the conclusion that she was in love with him... So the maula is the nail in the coffin for her... And isn't the overall mood of her song submission... So doesn't it mean that she equates to be in love to submission and when would submission come?

You take her love for Bappa first... RK ,the day pads comes to thank him for the machines, questions Madhu that "tumhare zindagi mein yeh Bappa ke itna shor kyun hai? What has Bappa done for you?" She still has unwavering faith in Bappa whatever bad might happen to her. Why? coz he is GOD! This girl has never asked/demanded from God apart from RK's life yet submitted herself to him. That day also, she said that you(God) and I would be disproven and RK's opinion about you will hold true and that her vishwas will be broken.

Then take her love for Padmini- She knows that Padmini ran away from her evil husband just so that she could bring Madhu into this world. It was not for herself but her unborn daughter's life that she chose to run away otherwise she would have still been enduring Ballu only, being the kind of woman Pads is... Bcoz of this and ofcourse many other things she would have done, she reveres her mother to an extent that she replaced  Ma in the place of Ishwar in her "Hauslon se veer" prayer...

Then take her love for Malik: In RK's very own words, Malik is her guroor, vishwas, etc, etc. Why so much adoration for Malik? Bcoz he was a selfless soul who sacrificed his entire life for his daughters and was a God sent angel for her mom when she first came to Bombay..She chose to embrace death for Malik's life.(RK had told her that marrying me would be a khoobsurat maut and even during the photos blackmail, she said sth like am already a zinda laash types).

Now coming to RK, he refused to reveal his attacker so as to protect her from going through a trauma. This act put him on the highest pedestal in her eyes and there is not going to be any looking back for her... See, she never thought even once, when RK told her to replace him for her mom in her prayer that day. Her submissiveness is seen in every action of hers- be it in not questioning how, where, what of their escape from the world or be it when she said No when he asked her if she was complaining regarding the galat tareeka of placing a prank call or be it after the fight, she went home and she saw her mom n malik through his eyes.. Why did she cry that day in the evening? She cried coz she had gone against him and fought with him which was against the submission principle

Basically, all the people she has loved in her life, she has adored them and submitted herself to them..  She prolly equates love to reverence and submission though I might be very wrong. That day she asked, what can I do to prove my love. Was there a way she could show to him, how she has submitted herself to him in love? Can you actually show/verbalize how much you love God?

She does not love Trishna in the way she does the other three coz Trishna has not done anything for Madhu that put her on the pedestal. And had she loved her in a similar manner, she wouldn't have put her sis dreams at stake for some roadside friend of hers... She compromised a lot of her characteristic nature to save Malik and married RK but not for Trish's dreams and she knows how much importance those dreams hold for her in her life.

But all said and done, Ganpati shoot-out changed something in her, prolly something which is beyond her comprehension(till the CV's decide to reveal). Coz she felt her breath stop the moment she saw him fall and I don't really think it was compassion/humanity coz the bullet shot was momentary and she didn't have time to think of their past together. Even during the confession, the two scenes that were played for her were,  he falling down after being shot and  he leading her into the house after Dipali pushed her out. Why these two, is bcoz, first one marked her change of feelings towards him and the second coz that was the beginning that led her to revere him. And the lines that were played were of course "tu hi hai maula, tu hi hai qazi"

Finally, have I made any sense?

Zoya,

Read ur pm made sense. I am gonna reserve it for now. Because I did mention devotion and it being punctured and tested time and again. Why still then pose the question is...because...is it really possible to marry ur God ? No. For in marriage even the man needs more than just submission.
I am reserving ur answer, because those are my thoughts for now. After MU track and few romance sessions, let's figure out what Madhu actually feels for RK. Coz as a woman to man, she needs to develop without which their marriage will not be successful.
Look at Padmini, she looks human and woman in every manner. Not so Madhu. She appears quite unresolved and immature. My focus in coming days, once VD comes back from vacation, will Madhu's love as well.

My another problem with Madhu is where is the line that she draws when to submit him and when to lecture him. For ex: now take her pushing him to reconcile with his mother. Would you coax your God to so something like that ?

Madhu in love!!? Why, how?? Don't think  she thinks about the whole issue too much. One thing is clear, she is in love with RK, with all that he has done for her family, she now worships him.
I kind of understand her state of mind. Because very recently met a girl like her. A 22 year old, sister of one of my friends...educated, protected but not dumb. This girl, got engaged last year while she was still studying, in fact she had exams the day after her wedding!! She was so content just being in love. She lost interest in a job, all she did was learn to cook, keep house. much to the irritation of her sister, her mother who are all career women!! She was just happy 'being in love' or being in love with the idea of being in love'.
Chatting with her, I felt like such a cynical, harsh woman of the world, then i attributed my reactions to my age and experienceSmile. And I thought, good for her!!

So yes, what I'm trying to say is there are girls like that who just become catatonic in love! And I kind of feel sorry for Madhu, because she is going to get her knocks in life...a father who is planning to kill her, a complicated, loose cannon, semi husband.  Despite knowing Dipali is RK's ex, she has never been insecure or jealous of her, now she will realise that RK actually cared about Dipali's opinion enough to challenge his love. I cannot forgive RK for that, it was not mature behaviour at all, considering the kind of person he knows Dipali is, and considering he is supposed to hate her. He is  not able to be indifferent to her. Why? this whole MU coming up should also teach him  a lesson or two. No third person can enter a relationship/marriage without permission from the couple.

Just so that I put a closure to the discussion that I started from my point of view...

  • The tug of  her heart is when Rishabh fell down with bullet wound is what triggered the love=Submission feeling for Madhu towards him. And she surrendered and submitted himself to her by lakeside (post Shamsher revelation act).
  • However, it is after the submission that, her pareshaan pareshaan feeling of being in love with RK started. All I am asking is give me the verbalization of what draws her to Rishabh. The story writers and RK caused Madhu not to reveal the reasons of her loving Rishabh to us (the love letter effort wasted and Rishabh asking her not to talk during love confession). So basicall...what I am saying is Madhu has her reasons of loving RK, just that we the viewers have not been told and RK by choice let it be mystery to him. May be he likes it that way. But not me. And to keep the suprise element in tact, the writers add angles and expressions to Madhu character that make it more mysterious...yet to unravel kind.

So pyaar (apart from submission, devotion) is there...kyon hai...we don't  know yet.

If Pyaar (love) was equivalent to Devotion,  then I did mention earlier devotion and it being punctured and tested time and again, because it has to be in principle. Why still then pose the question of why Madhu loves RK or why being upset that RK chose to test Madhu...because...is it really possible to marry ur God? No. For in marriage even the man needs more than just submission.  So unless Madhu is the Goddess herself, Madhu cannot marry Rishabh the God.

I am reserving my own thoughts for now. After MU track and few romance sessions, let's figure out what Madhu actually feels for RK. Coz as a woman to man, she needs to develop without which their marriage will not be successful.

My focus in coming days, once VD comes back from vacation, will be watching Madhu's love as well...as I expected a marriage first as I was thinking love and passion will be developed/professed/confessed later. CVs broke that order.
My another problem with Madhu is where is the line that she draws when to submit him and when to lecture him. For ex: now take her pushing him to reconcile with his mother. Would you coax your God to do something like that ?

dramacrazy12(Puja)'s response.

I have not seen the latest episode yet but would like to continue discussion from last post by Shri on yesterday's thread since it is a really interesting issue...

To me... Madhu is completely immature...she has been protected her life and she seems to have this idealistic mindset where she seems to aspire to a perfect love/family etc...or as close as she can get to to achieving it.
If you see the first few episodes...it was obvious to me that Mukund was smitten by her beauty so much so that he fast forwarded to a confession and proposal. He knew very little about Madhu to fall in love with her . What he called love was infatuation.  But what had struck so odd to me at that point is how quickly Madhu agreed to his proposal...there was very little Madhu knew about Mukund...but she seemed to be delighted at the thought of being in love and being loved by someone so much that she ignored all the practical and other considerations. If she would have married Mukund...she would have ended up completely disillusioned and cynical eventually. RK...who is extremely smart and good at reading people saw the mismatch in feelings...hence his question to Madhu on bridge asking if she loved Mukund. What is noticable is that Madhu is taken aback and then instead of answering the question...she retorts by saying that is for Mukund to ask and her to know...RK has no right. Somewhere in her heart, she knew that what she felt for Mukund was not love. Later Mukund ditches her (infatuation could not win over practical considerations) but Madhu is not heartbroken (she was never in love truly but in llove with the idea of being in love).
Now coming back to RK and Madhu. They have both been attracted to each other right from the start even if it was under the guise of hatred. Even when Madhu had not interacted with RK, she dreamt of dancing with him. Madhu has been on RK's mind ever since he saw her for whatever reasons. When Madhu asks why he wants to marry her...he states that he feels that thier destinies are intertwined and he wants to explore this unknown bond between them.
As time proceeds ...Madhu begins to see the person behind the mask of RK. She also realizes that in case of RK...his bark is worst than his bite. He has a complicated broken past and while he pretends to rebel against all tradition and goodness ...he does know the difference between right and wrong. To quote some examples
1)Madhu is never fearful that RK will try to harm her bodily or rape her
2) In the party she actually dances with immense passion and actually seems to enjoy that RK is smitten by her. She seems confused momentarily when RK starts to insult her.
3)She is touched when he saves her after the dance and tends to her wounds
4)At hospital she tells him that she gave him blood because he would have done the same for her.
What she feels after the Ganpati incident is a sense of pity, guilt, concern of a reluctant wife tied by traditions combined with attraction. She also knows that RK is not that bad so she probably feels that she can make this marraige work after all and get back her perfect marraige dream. It is not love but more like friendship and respect.
After RK saves Shamsher and protects her...what Madhu feels is pride, thankfulness and reverence. He is beginning to fit in her image of perfect husband. With RK mellowed down...the attraction also starts to take front seat which leads to pareshan...pareshan scenario. In my mind she keeps pushing RK towards Radha or tends to ignore the underlying emotional currents because in her simplicity she is still striving for that perfect love, family and marraige. The couple would have explored thier feelings with time and fell in lasting love but circumstances forced the confession and they missed the introspection and exploration stage and moved on to passion and yearning stage. Rk is more experienced and is committed to the relationship...he knows what he loves about her, understands her and is ready to go the extra mile but what about Madhu? Does she know RK...Is she ready to go the extra mile even though if might mean hurting her loved ones?
Her ambiguous behavior is the result of jumble of  feelings and expectations she has from her relationship with RK . She does not know whether to revere him, be impressed by his insights (her unquestioning submission) or strive for that perfect marraige (when she lectures him with righteous superiority). As she realizes that all relationships are imperfect and RK is not infallible... she will hopefully have more balanced reactions and slip into the role of a partner.

CONCLUSION
Madhu answers all viewer questions as to why she loves RK in Episode 169 thru 171

Madhu's fight for RK with Rishabh Insecurities - as understood through her acceptance of Rishabh's Insecurities in Episode 85 which ends Studio Night track and marks entry of Dips in their lofe;  and challenging/breaking RK insecurities stemming out of his past through episodes 169, 170, 171, 172 and 173 which ends Test of Love Track and Dips as a poisonous threat in their life.

RK was back in his element with filmy dialogues and Madhu was back to her besharam self. What I like about this couple is there is no fake coyness amongst them, they are very blatant about thier desires and attraction for each other.I find it very progressive that Madhu is just as open and enthusiastic about it  as RK. There are times when I find that she purposely provokes Rk into a more intimate situation and I think RK likes that aspect of her personality. In all loved that segment... can't wait to see how love confession will play out at Sangeet, after all RK is supposed to be king of romance. Mai ni Mai has a nostalgic feel to it and provides Madhu a chance to show off her dancing chops. What I found amusing is that RK is really planning to be Jogi by shunning all his materialistic belongings so even more appropriate. I do want RK to win ...I am interested in seeing what he wants from Madhu.
[SD]: Agree the bolded portion. We always feel that, the entire ED gang here. I love the CVs for giving that kind of heroine to us in this story. Her initial dream about RK when she has not even met him, somehow keeps validating the present Madhu and also the "Pareshaan Madhu"  in her imagination actually proudly professed to RK that she had dreamt about him. Later on the way she goes about winning Rishabh Kundra at all stages is just adorable. When in Aa zara dance or the Darmiyaan dance in the studio, the way she looks or the way she flirtatiously smiles is enough to make him own her...I just don't understand how the guy is even able to resist her. LOL  Though I understand her standpoint of going away with him very clearly, sometimes I wonder if am being wrong in also adding that she too wants to own him body and soul with undivided attention from him. Presently she does have to share him with his Superstar self, him as an organization of difficult and unwanted relationships over him. Madhu as this epitome of sensuous and sensible woman is growing at quite an admirable pace in my eyes. She can always put sensuality on the backseat if she has to deal with issues and problems of practical nature, but once they are dealt with, she goes about being sensual with her husband. Actually this is what I felt in Madhu-Radha scene today. Madhu is least emotional about Radha not telling her or RK not telling her...all she was emotional about was...how an important hurdle crossed that allows her grow closer to the man she loves. For her that revelation showed that yet another wall fell for her and now she gets to go closer to Rishabh. As much as we think RK has an agenda in going away, now it seems to be Madhu too has started stacking up her own agendas for this trip. Just that RK talks and Madhu hears and never tells RK or the viewers. She just believes in surprising us. LOL
I was watching now episode 85.
God! those words in RK mansion's foyer area near the lift !!!  And after that the snaky woman makes her entrance to remind him every minute that he cannot fall in love with any other woman as they are just going to abandon him like her... how challenging it had been to her in claiming this man...she had to make him open up to the idea that she too can feel for him and if I think back assuming that she started falling for her husband alongside hating him more than that and if she knew about this already, then she had been way too patient with him and tearing apart whorl after whorl of his without letting him feel it and thus making him accept her love in equal regard. Now in restropect, I feel amazed that just as much RK was fighting Dips in his own way, so was Madhu helping him in totally ignoring her and their past relationship just concentrating on each other. It definitely gave a lot of balance to Rishabh Kundra as Madhu's ignoring of Dips stabilized RK into talking with her freely as if she feels nothing for him and thus giving Madhu all that access to deal with her husband. If Madhu had prioritized Dips like us viewers wanted us and given any value, Rishabh would have fortified his walls even more blocking all access to him. Intelligent Madhu!!!! Brilliant !!! For her his acceptance of her regard must have been the deepest challenge and win for her...may be that is why the being in love state is making her suddenly so light-headed and giddy that she just wants to fly away.

She basically doesn't tell us why she loves him, but her dreams and imaginations and songs played along help us to understand her love and attraction for RK.

Madhubala dreams of dancing with RK - Episode 11 [11th June 2012]

OST "Main Agar Kahoon" of Om Shanti Om  movie, where SRK is actually romancing with his heroine in his film world.

So Madhu dreamed that RK is mesmerized by her beauty and is all praising her.

However the allusion to movies was broken here due to falling TRPs from Mukund track. They had to shift to approaching their love story from a different vantage ...and that too when they actually meet.

The song from Fanaa "tere haath mein mera haath ho" speaks about the love story they are going to have. The bridge depicts that. The lyrics of the whole song depict the kind of love they are going to have for each other.
