Episode 164 Discussion: 8th Jan 2013

What it means to leave behind - the apprehensions and the happiness visible over the horizon

Events of the Episode
  1. Sapno ka aashiyana - RK and Madhu both being apprehensive of how they can leave everything behind, every rishta (relationship) behind and if they would be able to do so. And wherever they go, if they can set up and find same happiness as now present with them. Not knowing about the future, RK just decides to take Madhu to their future "Aashiana." RK shows Madhu the plot that he bought for themselves to live the non-Superstar's life. He describes the dream house per his imagination. It is all RK's dreams nevertheless with Madhu's approval and Madhu's allowance to the point of what he has to keep with him always...his father's rocking chair, not allowing him to forget his roots. This moves Rishabh Kundra so much, that all his funny banter of the dream house with which he was trying to please his Biwi, in all his honesty is negated. Nothing remains real except for him, his Biwi's understanding of him in that empty space, plot and now suddenly filled with hope for their future together filled with love and understanding.
  2. Atit tyagna -Padmini's Visarjan of her symbols from first marriage. It had to be Madhu to tell the mother to remove the symbols. Worn for 22 years, everyday without fail and never having questioned anything about it and the returns it gave to her, Padmini was nervous about the removal. Encouraged by her daughter, the understanding and sensible mother and woman, removes mangalsootra and sindhoor. Padmini feels happy and lighter for removing the symbols, with all the dead weight removed and her flowing tears at the joy expressing that she took so many years to do it.
Episode Reviews.
The episode started seriously and ended seriously. And overall it was an emotional episode. Will give an A.

The highlights of Leaving behind

RK and Madhu's Sapno ka Ghar and members of that Aashiana.
RK and Madhu both being apprehensive of how they can leave everything behind, every rishta (relationship) behind and if they would be able to do so. And wherever they go, if they can set up and find same happiness as now present with them. Not knowing about the future, RK just decides to take Madhu to their future "Aashiana"
It is all RK's dreams nevertheless with Madhu's approval and Madhu's allowance to the point of what he has to keep with him always...his father's rocking chair, not allowing him to forget his roots. His Mom is a Bhatia and so no need for her to be part of the Kundra Household. She needs to maintain her Bhatia household, so how can she join them ?Very covertly and neatly explained to viewers there! And very implicitly shown by Madhu. Gosh! for the first time Madhu sounded so supremely intelligent...so much that even Rishabh Kundra had tears in his eyes. And this time Madhu's smile was so much more confident as if she knew what she has to do for her husband and herself.

Padmini's Visarjan of her symbols from first marriage
It had to be Madhu to tell the mother to remove the symbols. Is it really such a big deal to remove ? Is it blown out of the proportion on TV? I don't know.  I had put them aside as soon as I decided to end the marriage. It was easy enough. Removed the mangalsutra, the bangles and the toe-rings. Simple enough. No one asked me to do it. I did by myself and my eyes were resolute enough and my loved ones understanding enough to even talk about it or comment on it. It was tacit understanding.
But, if worn for 22 years, everyday without fail and never having questioned anything about it and the returns it gave to her, Padmini, sure would feel nervous about the whole feeling. But encouraged by the daughter, the understanding and sensible mother and woman, removed the two symbols.

Well she threw away the mangalsutra...at real...since it is a gold one, people would have kept it aside to be sold/tudwaana. But here on TV...visarjan made sense. I liked the scene leaving the dramatics...very meaningful because Padmini felt happy and lighter for removing the symbols, with all the dead weight removed and her flowing tears at the joy expressed that she took so many years to do it. That is very much a real feeling. I can vouch for that.

Trishna -Balraj Scene
They left us in limbo there. We do not know what's gonna happen until tomorrow. Scary it was...

Precap - Madhu-Balraj Scene in RK Mansion
How come Balraj is able to aim strike on Madhu with that broken glass in RK Mansion. I wonder!
Intezaar karna padegaa kal tak (Have to wait until tomorrow).

And now the fun part -RK's dream house description. :)
Zameen se rishta rakhta hua, kaleen bicha hua farsh with No Sofe
Badi Badi beparda khidkian, jo sooraj aur baarish ka swagat karenge. Seems there won't be any neighbours around. Is it possible ?
meri junglee billee ko rasoighar mein khana banate hue main dekhta hua Painting banaoonga
Ghee tail aur mirchi mein bana hua khana...din mein teen baar...no salad and no diet food. No karela!!
A place for Champi as well!
A spartan bedroom with just the bed with no pillows ki deewar...bare walls with no pics and photoframes.
One projector screen to see only one movie Mr.India with no sad ending to be shown to children. Can it get any more boring ?
Three children...two girls with her beauty and his attitude...jo duniya ki band bajaaye. One boy...a lil bit spoilt brat is allowed for him...but he has to be responsible. He wants them to fight so that they can love each other.

And Madhu approves the Dream house with her signature smile and hug that she likes the  "Hamaari Choti si Cute si Duniya"

The best character of the three good actors and characters from MEIEJ - Madhubala
Three characters and actors - RK, Madhu and Padmini. The three were equally good.
However, the best one was Madhubala. For the first time, she came across as the WISEST of all for such a young woman as she is.
From beginning to ending, she was wise. She understood the fears of setting up a new house, what they could take and what they have to leave behind. I was so marvelled at Madhu's thought, how she distinguished between Mohan Kundra and Radha Bhatia. And how she provisioned a place for Mohan Kundra her dead Sasurjee and did not make the place for her living Saasuma as she is no more a Kundra and that she has her own household to run. Neat and Clean.
And the other wise thing was how she enouraged her mom to remove her dead weights on her when she is ushering new life.

Best Emotional Moments
Rocking Chair in the living room where you would be painting...
Madhu, all these days never ever spoke of his father. But that he was there in her thoughts moved Rishabh Kundra so much. That one moment negated all his funny banter of the dream house with which he was trying to please his Biwi, with all his honesty. Nothing remained real except him, his Biwi's understanding of him in that empty space and now suddenly filled with hope.

The other one was ofcourse Padmini's happy tears.

Remove space between telly and tadka.

By myself -
About painting...
yesterday, I raised Zohra Sehgal in one of my posts. She is the grand old lady (100 or over 100 now) of our theater having worked for Uday Shankar dance ballet company and later with Prithviraj Theater. She married a Hindu who was 8 years her junior with quite a lot of opposition at that. His name was Kameshwar Sehgal and he was talented...a scientist and painter as well. He left science and chose arts for his livelihood. His full time job became painting. Later he learned dance as well. As his his wife was a dancer, together they became choreographers.
In later years, his painting helped him and he took to Art Direction in Films.

Sumit Mishra is the current Art Director for MEIEJ. He is a painter as well. Before MEIEJ was on air, in the month prior to MEIEJ going on air, he had the exhibition of his "Meditation" theme Paintings in Mumbai.

So if RK speaks of him painting, that precludes the fact that he is a painter. And why are we resistant to him following his instincts of remaining the artist ?  Why do we think that only as a Superstar he will be good ? Why cannot we...especially the Indians...not easily accept any profession that does not seem like success, or has lot of struggle involved or more importantly creativity involved. I guess, we need to open our eyes to Arts and Sciences and applied uses of the same in carving our alternate occupations for livelihood.

Why can't we even have respite of watching one character pursuing Arts in present day world other than just being a businessman as in other soaps. Well gone are the days like 80's and 90's where characters were Govt servants or Pvt Sector employees...as that was the only means to livelihood available for majority.

As student, we used to have Arts class. My painting was bad. But lot of my friend's and classmates drawing and painting skills were simply superb. Infact my class-mate made us proud in KV Uppal in 1986 or 87 when he got the second prize amongst all participating schools for a Soviet sponsored Painting Competition. I don't even remember how it started ...all I know, our teacher asked us to paint anything and submit to her...and one fine day we see the troupe of diplomats in school. LOL

Don't know what happens now in Indian schools...

Excellent, flawless episode, high on emotional content, leaving a tear or two in my eyes!!

RK's dream house, approved by Madhu. It is touching to see how far and how much in details has RK thought about the life he wants to have after leaving everything behind. He wants to shed everything related to his stardom and zamin se rishta banana chahta hai. Naya ghar, no sofa, beparda khidkiyan to let in the sun and the rain. Biwi ke liye kitchen jisme wo ghee, tel aur mirch se bhara khana banegi din me 3 bar(no diet food, no karela), apne liye living room me painting canvas aur champi karne k liye ek dedicated corner. How cute. Bedroom, jisme diwaron pe koi tasveere nai, aur bed pe koi deewar nai. Dreamy. 3 bacche. 2 ladkiyan, shakal madhu jaisi and akal RK jaisi(akdu, BBB) aur 1 ladka jo thoda sa bigda hua ho to chalega.
He wants to watch Mr. India and wants to skip the end part of the movie to shield his children from the trauma. This reflects that in his mind, he idolizes Malik as a father figure and wants himself to be a kind of father to his children what Malik has been to Trishna and Madhu.
RK is voicing out his dreams, and Madhu is nodding in silent approval. The best part was, though she was not verbalizing anything, her expressions were in flow with his changing words and emotions. These two understand each other so well, that RK senses her apprehension about their new life without her speaking it out, and honestly confesses that he too is clueless as to how they will leave everything and everyone behind and that is why brings her to show her, unka 'chota sa cute sa sapno ka ghar'. She has her moment of understanding him, when she wants to bring in his father's memories into their new house.

Two best scenes:

1. Madhu suggesting to make papa a part of their new house, as it will be Kundra house and incomplete without Mohan Kundra. The split second where RK realizes the magnanimity of this gesture from his wife and brings a silent tear to his eyes and wraps her in his arms to secure himself, has to be one of the best played out one on TV in recent times. How well she understands him and does not want them to leave their roots behind, but at the same time making it subtly clear that Radha being a Bhatia has no place in this Kundra household. Madhu, aaj tumne phir se dil jeet liya.
2. Padmini leaving the scars behind. Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past is real. So, today, Padmini on Madhu's insistence decides to get rid of the ritualistic mangalsutra and sindoor that were keeping those scar alive and reminding her of her tumultuous past. Madhu was the star here as well. She dealt with padmini like a mother taking care of a wounded child and healing them. The sense of relief that washed over her face, after letting go off the sindoor and the magalsutra, was somewhat like she has alleviated herself of a slow poison that was silently killing her for all those years. Pallavi and DD were spot on in this scene.

Trishna is putting up a brave front to Balraj. It come across as foolish move to an extent, but I will still applaud her. Every moment with Balraj around traumatizes her, refreshing her childhood memories, yet she is shielding her family from him by facing him herself.

For me, today's episode belonged to Madhu as her actions and thoughts came across much more mature than her age. Good development on that front.

Precap looks really really scary.

The episode was too good.. Madhu was the star of today's episode. After a very long time, she showed this kind of confidence, wisdom, thoughts and action in today's episode. Madhu chaa gayi!!
I guess I would be repeating almost everything you people would have written.. Thoda adjust kar lijiyega.. Hum apni khushi thoda zahir karna chahte hain:)
Kundra ka ghosla: RK understanding Madhu's apprehensions of their future life ,takes her to a place where he had made a layout made of candles of their future home. He tells her how he wants their home to be and the dreams he had woven for them far away from the world. He talks about his painting(their living presumably and at the same time for  his creative satisfaction), their simple chota sa sansaar devoid of all luxuries, filled with their love, joy and happiness and duniya ki band bajaane wale kids.  Ek hi film (without the sad scene- Is he idolising Malik?) dikha ke bachchon ko pakana chahta hai RK!!!! Not good RK!!!Shukar hai apni film nahi dikhana chahta.. At the end of it, he becomes the practical and a lil fearful man and wonders if he would be able to make his duniya alongside the normal world. But pat comes the reply from Madhu. She allays all his fears and practicality by continuing their duniya talks and asks about the only other Kundra that he missed out, who would be a part of their duniya. Madhu toh feeling le gayi yaar RK ki.. aur meri bhi.  RK becomes overwhelmed and hugs her tightly for her thoughtfulness and for sanctioning and providing the much needed confidence. Madhu looked ready to take the plunge, duniya ko chod-chaad ke, apne RK ke saath. Madhu was confident and blissfully happy and RK had that content feeling that he closed his eyes to let the feeling sink in and not to let the tears flow. DD and VD were spot on with feelings and emotions. The way Madhu emoted when RK was talking was too good...
Am happy that Madhu distinguishes properly between the Bhatias and the Kundras. She understands that Radha might be RK's mom but she is a Bhatia and hence no place in their world.
Another scene was the way Madhu handled her mother to let go of all her pichle suhaag ki nishaaniyan..The bhaaripan, worry at the start of the scene and Padmini's expressions, emotions at the end of it were just bang-on. It would have been difficult for Pads to let go of her marriage symbols. She threw away the mangalsutra into the water letting it drown and hence drowning away her memories of the past life.  she washed away the sindoor, washing away all the signs of her past life and feeling pure, alive, free with every wash. Pallavi Purohit and DD were too good in this scene...
According to me, Padmini should have let it go a long time back and not have done it today and that too on Madhu's prodding.. But I guess for the TRP aunties and junta, Padmini is the ideal pati -vrata patni and so all this was much needed to glorify Padmini in the eyes of the viewers.. Chalo, koi baat nahi...
Balraj-Trishna: Scene abhi baaki hai... Balraj was eerie and Trishna awfully frightened..
Precap: Ballu attacking Madhu.. There was oil or some water on the floor, so woh kahin seedha madhu ke pairon par na pahunch jaaye... Hope Dipali is not lurking around anywhere and witnessing this...
Bittuji was the man behind the candle layout right? And has RK told Bittuji about his plans. After all he was his only apna before Madhu came into his life, though he is just his manager... How would Bittuji react? What has RK planned for Bittuji?

I must say that today's episode was power packed and I loved every bit of it. RK-Madhu scene was very cute and both the actors were good in that scene and the CVs gave us a proper, passionate, tight hug when RK pulled Madhu on to him to hug her. That was a spontaneous hug with so full of emotions and I liked it.

Today Madhu was wise beyond her years and I was so happy to see her act so matured not once but twice at two different occasions. How thoughtful of her to remember RK's dad's rocking chair since he values that as his priced possession and cherishes the memories associated with it. She knows that he had kept the rocking chair and it's memories close to his heart and by calling his dad papa and telling him that they should leave the chair in the living room she acknowledged the fact that she equally respects his feelings and values the things that are important to him . RK was emotional and gave her a tight hug considering how thoughtful, sweet and innocent she is and also with the knowledge that he had made the right decision to leave everything and everyone that had caused pain and discomfort behind only to be with his true love Madhu, who has filled his life with pleasant feelings of love, care and trust and  will continue to do so. That was an aaww moment for me and I so wanted everything to work out in their favor knowing fully well that is not going to be the case with Ballu lurking around the corner and waiting to strike Madhu. I fear for RK more than Madhu because the man has already gone through hell in his life and if at this point in time he were to loose his Madhu who is his lifeline, his beacon shining so brightly with the promise of bringing happiness and joy in his foreseeable future, he would either go into a self destructive mode or would turn into a merciless torturer of that person who harmed him by harming her.

I liked the fact that the CVs gave a closure to Padmini's shaadi ki nishani from her marriage to Ballu and I also loved the touch where they made Madhu as the one calming her mother and assuring her that she is entitled to her share of happiness and joy and she can only achieve that by letting go off her past which did nothing but burden her and pain her. I loved the symbolism where Padmini said that it emotionally pains her to remove her mangalsutra and it literally hurts her to remove it from her neck. We were then shown the flashback of Padmini with Madhu in her womb being treated so harshly by Balraj and it almost felt that the baby had went through the pain and suffering that the mother went through and even in its womb it might have developed the determination to avenge her mother's pain by stripping the torturer of his powers, his ability to hurt a pregnant woman mercilessly. Thanks to my late grandma I was reminded of the epic Mahabharata where Abhimanyu's education began while he was still in Subhadra's womb and was relating that to Madhu when she was in Padmini's womb.

Precap was interesting because how on earth Ballu managed to get into RK mansion and that too was planning an attack on Madhu in plain sight. We all know that he will be unsuccessful in this attempt but he would never stop until his last breath since he has taken a oath on his mother's ashes. I hate the news outlets which initially said that Ballu will shoot Madhu and now they are saying that Padmini will shoot Ballu durig his failed attempt to kill Madhu who will be saved by RK at the nick of time.

By MarathiMulgi over Bittuji
A slight change in the topic in this post...
Guys if you have beaten this particular horse dead already, I don't intend to revive it. I just thought about it and hence the post.

I had a thought about Bittuji. RK is preparing to set everything right with Madhu's family before he leaves filmy duniya, aisho aram and go live the life of aam admi. Lekin what about Bittuji? Unke bare mein RK ka kya plan hai? Yeh to maine socha hi nahi.

Bittuji has be the only confidant, friend, big brother (as RK unko manta hai) which RK had in his life before Madhu became an integral part of RK's life.  He has been chief's right hand in bringing all kinds of atrocities on Madhu initially and carrying it out to the letter.  He has never questioned RK's motives (good or bad), always trusted his chief,  is his staunch loyal supporter in everything  and has witnessed all good and bad things that has happend to his chief.

What would be his reaction if and when he finds out about RK's plan to leave the showbiz. This move directly affects him. What will he feel? Betrayed, dismayed, disappointed, angry, dejected?   He will be well within his rights to feel all these emotions. Though he is one of the few people who knows ki RK ko samazana itna aasan nahin hai, will he still trust RK and think that RK must have planned something for him as well and RK will not just leave him to fend for himself?

Maybe RK has plans for Bittuji to be Trishna's advisor in her filmy career?

Responded by SD
MM,

Bittuji and RK relationship explored so far is Employee -Employer relationship followed by deep regard for each other, which sometimes becomes a fraternal bond.

The way I understand Bittuji is that he is always first about his Chief's Happiness.
  1. Now what we do not know is how they met and how they started off.
  2. Was it before Rishabh Kundra became Superstar RK or after Rishabh Kundra met with filmy success ?
  3. Does the CHIEF include the Superstar Status or is minus the Superstar ?

Until we know this dynamic, there's no point us wondering how will Bittuji take RK's leaving.
As of now, together are so comfortable in working out all operational items with Bittuji being more of RK's Executive Assistant...a high position.

About RK leaving behind everything, he was apprehensive as today as to how he was gonna give out the breaking news to his family and his film fraternity that he wants to leave. So this also includes Bittuji. This is not just Bittuji's loss. It is loss for the film fraternity as well. And Bittuji can find any alternative employment if he wants to. That's a different matter if he wants to get employed with others. But that risk for him is always there. No job is permanent. Least of all...a employer should not be scared of his employee and likewise an employee cannot be threatening to an employer. That just means that employer-employee rishta was never maintained properly.
