Episode 246 Discussion: 15th April 2013

The CVs clarification to viewers about Sultan, RK and Madhu to answer Viewer Questions and bias, Drama of Captivity continues with friendly & family involvement and  Captor and Captive engaged in entertaining fights

Events of the Episode
  1. Padmini and Trishna return from Shirdi. Find the house locked. Trishna calls Madhu. Madhu is sleeping and is waking upto the buzz on her phone. She realizes she is sleeping besides RK albeit with all pillows in between them. She moves to pick up the phone and finds herself chained with RK in a hand cuff. As RK wakes up with the tug, she asks him to unchain her. He doesn't. She goes to pick up the phone anyways and tries to answer, RK snatches the phone. Notes that it is Trishna's and cuts the call.
  2. As Madhu is arguing it out with RK to release her and RK keeps flirting with her, Padmini calls Bittuji and asks where Madhu is. Bittuji without disclosing much informs her that Madhu is doing well and with RK. Padmini asks why and how and Bittuji asks her to stay put without worry (though his face is all concerned). Here RK and Madhu's tussle is heightened where Madhu asks him sharply to unchain her. RK says he will release on one condition and it is for her to tell why she allowed Sultan to color her and why she colored him. Madhu refuses to honour his question and RK threatens her that he will open his shirt if she doesn't tell him. Madhu gives him the true reasons and yet RK instead of releasing her chains her to bed. He goes to take a shower and comes back.
  3. Meanwhile Padmini has called Radhaji in panic. Radhaji apologizes to her, Padmini asks why? and confused, she asks her to have her daughter speak to her. Radhaji takes the phone to Madhu and RK's room, where the two are fighting with full gutso. He had released her after she taunted him about he tied up her like animal. And RK's new demand is to give him his formal clothes to wear. [The Guy wants to live all the life they had in one day itself...as if there is no tomorrow :) ] Radhaji hands the phone to Madhu, and Madhu hearing her mother's high temper and Trishna asking her mother to calm down, decides to not tell Padmini the real reason of her stay at RK's place and instead gives the reason of shooting taking place in RK's house and that entire cast and crew is at RK Mansion. Padmini asks her to be careful and not take any shit from RK.
  4. As RK teases her about her lying to Padmini, Madhu defends herself that she did it not cause distress to her mother. Finally after further pally, RK approaches her, leaves all his jokes and asks her seriously that he needs one more chance. And when Madhu asks what for, he says, he wants her heart. Madhu tells him that she doesn't have heart anymore as it is crushed by him. Episode Ends
  5. In their conversation RK also mouths dialogues like, "This is our story, This is Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and not a story of Sadakchaap" He also informs, he that he doesn't care if he is being slapped with violence, Craziness and Man-handling. That he may be a Right Kameena, but he is certainly not a King Cobra full of poison. And Madhu also mouths dialogues about RK's insecurities, doubts on her character and that he is nothing but a fool not to believe her. All this seems the writers have made RK state his position against Forum groups calling him atrocious and Madhu stating Madhubala fans concerns regarding RK's behaviour. Sort of both Madhu and RK are neutralized by the CVs, with RK mouthing not caring about what kind of abuser he is being perceived as and Madhu mouthing dialogues showing that she is not an helpless woman as being perceived by Madhu Support groups and calls RK as he appears to her and refuses to be his psychiatrist or capsule to understand his behaviour. Basically the Cvs are asking people to shut down analysis and just enjoy the two characters battling with each other.

Episode Reviews
Myself
Watched the episode.  It was so evenly distributed entirely between all characters that I was unable to disconnect myself even for a minute to jot down my screen time distribution.  Today the episode was shared by RK and MB with Padmini and Trishna and Radhaji and Bittuji in an even manner with good screenplay.

It was quite dramatic to me and the entire episode was built-up with the intention to make
  • RK as the Captor
  • MB as the Captive
  • And the rest of the three characters of Bittuji, Radhaji and Padmini as Plot Devices to paint out the Captivity Situation. Bittuji and Radhaji have not disclosed anything to Padmini. Madhu too has not disclosed anything to Padmini. Whereas all the three had equal opportunity to disclose the kidnapping.
Trishna very rarely shows up in Indian dresses. Today is one such day. She was in a suit. Chalo I will accept that she is back from Shirdi/pilgrimage.

Bittuji
He doesn't tell Padmini, that his Chief has kept Madhu against her wish. Fine Bittjuji would have lost the job, but then as RK's Manager, why didn't he take the instruction from RK as to what reason should be provided to Padmini ? If I leave that, then Bittuji behaved very tactfully by raising necessary warning levels with Padmini.  Because of him Padmini decided to speak to Radhaji.

Radhaji
She could have blurted out that RK has detained Madhu at their place. But she apologized in advance. So she also acted tactfully by sounding like a ringing bell that "Padmini, you should be worried".   Radhaji proved herself a diplomat and she handed the phone to Madhu, leaving the onus between Madhu and RK on how they handle the call with Padmini's enquiry. In a way, she was right, because Radhaji is not aware what transpired between the husband and wife in the night and what new threatenings may have been heaped on Madhu. So in real sense, she let out warning without causing jeopardy to Madhu.

Padmini
She was panic-stricken rightfully. She was sweating too. Good make up there. And the CVs made Trishna utter the dialogue, "Maa don't panic".  This Panic is in a sense real for the mother and at the same is a plot device for having Madhu tell the lie to Padmini.

Madhu
She lies to Padmini, basically to avoid the panic. Now situation was kept in control by her, but Madhu has to now to seriously plan getting out of there before something happens to her mother. So through this lie, a sense of responsibility and URGENCY has been BUILT for Madhu to try an escape from her CAPTIVITY or try for a negotiation with her CAPTOR.

Rishabh Kundra
Starkly in contrast to Saturday episode, Rishabh Kundra today has been completely painted as CAPTOR. Just so that Rishbala Fans do not get happy at RK and Madhu sharing the same bed, to keep the fans disgusted, prompting Madhu to devise an escape, they have showed a SYMBOLIC CUFF, the Shackle, Chain between Madhu and RK and later RK chaining her to bed headboard.

Now where is all this leading to ?
All this is POINTEDLY leading to Madhu's NEED to be released from CAPTIVITY (VIEWER DISGUST) , or a possible ESCAPE (MADHU's GUT FEEL, now that she has lied to her mother), or to bring SULTAN into picture (as Padmini is already in PANIC).

The way I see the episode, nothing of it was disturbing, as clearly it came across as an episode constructed to bring out GROTESQUE elements to keep the viewer disgusted and judge Rishabh Kundra as the most bad person of all.  And as viewers feel all this, they made RK mouth dialogues such as "call me violent, man-handling or Paagal", I am not going to release you. They also made him say, " This is Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon as the story of RK and MB" and not a Sadakchaap Love Story for MB".  To me, it obviously comes across as clarification for viewers that MB and Sultan will not happen, but at the same time, it also comes across as if Rishabh Kundra may also retrace himself over what he said...as in a situation may come, where he may have to say, it is no more a MB-RK story.  Don't know why but I get that feeling...as if they made unnecessarily RK mouth negative dialogues for himself.

Before Madhu's CAPTIVITY ends, the plot requirement is for Madhu to have sufficient PEEPS into RK's Ishq and Junoon for her so that she can keep those in memory before she leaves the place for good and when RK is going to be defeated in his purpose of keeping Madhu close to him. And hence the Rishbala romantic scenes are interspersed throughout the kidnap/detention drama.

The usage of the Chain (Hand-Cuffs)
If I had not known through the spoilers that RK will use hand-cuffs, I would have been surprised at the use of Hand Cuffs...It would look dramatic. Too dramatic But the same time it was funny to me.  I was reminded of two movies. Love Story - Kumar Gaurav and Vijeta Pandit one, and The Thirty Nine Steps - Alfred Hitchcock movie, where the hero-heroine have a similar night with hands tied to each other.  For me, it also made sense as obviously Madhu would have escaped had RK not chained her to him. And further, it adds up the NEED for fights between the two. Else, Madhu would just say, "RK tum Paagal ho gaye Ho! Mujhe jaane do". Because of the chain, they have different dialogues now.

All in all...an episode that was a field day for CVs rather than anything for characters. None of them were given weightage about their original psyche(personalities) and instead made to turn and twist to fit the episodic plot.

Usually MEIEJ captures our mind so much that it takes away all our available bandwidth from us. Shouldn't we just be happy for some episodes where they throw all the characters under the bus. We can watch it like watching some other show, snap out of it and keep going about our tasks. Today's episode was like that to me.  Lighthearted and driven episode towards next action steps...otherwise it would be a stalemate. An action drama has to be kept continuous...and hostage drama is essentially an action thriller. Not all action drama's are hit. Look at the last fiasco of Sultan vs Bhujang at Holi. Nothing happened that we could call exciting.

Note: This is my attempt to look at it from outside in. Appreciate your feedback on it. This is not Madhu bashing. Just my effort to understand and decipher her reactions towards her captor.

What is the point of today's episode ?
RK asking Madhu for one chance to fix things.
How does he go about laying the groundwork ?
After kidnapping Madhu, by handcuffing Madhu to himself first and then to the bed.
Why does he adopt this antics?
Madhu has told him point blank that she will not relent even if he begs, so asking her straightaway like any other normal human being would have done, will not work. It is not his style either. So how to keep her busy to gain her attention - shock her so totally by doing something so outrageous so unexpected, create such a huge drama that she will have to ask what is he trying to accomplish by this latest atrocious act. She is hooked in a sense, intrigued by his crazy act. She knows he is crazy, just a new level is introduced today just to get her attention.
Does he accomplish his goal?
 Not today, maybe tomorrow.
What do you think Madhu should have done when she woke up and found herself handcuffed to RK ?
Attack him with that same chain around his neck, kick him and generally behave violent. This reaction would have been accepted by all of us thinking a normal reaction in this situation even though that would not have guarenteed him uncuffing her. She also could have screamed bloody murder (muze bachao or something like that. I mean if Radha can hear RK shouting Maa, she surely would have heard Madhu's cry for help).
What did Madhu actually do?
Asked him calmly to take the handcuffs off and when he refused, she answered some of his questions which she was not obligated to do and he did not uncuff her anyways..
Madhu answering Padmini's phone call
Normal reaction after suffering this humiliation would have been to break down crying on the phone unable to utter any word beyond "Maa". Any normal girl would have suffered a breakdown and all of us would have sympathized with her thinking very normal, bechari abla nari. If that phone call would have resulted in  Padmini bringing the police to RK mansion, Madhu could have let RK squirm his way out of it. Again, viewers would not have objected to it.
How did Madhu answer Padmini's call ?
Lied to her.Made up some lame excuse which Padmini will in no time figure out the truth. Madhu effectively told RK that I understand that this is a power play between you and me and I will not involve anyone else (not even my Maa) into this. Go on dishing out whatever you can think of and I will deal with it and you ALONE, MYSELF. She has given yet another challenge to RK to which he is surely going to rise as usual. So if RK is crazy, can we call Madhu crazier?

More than RK, I want to take Madhu to task today. We all know who RK is and what he is capable of so I won't spend my time berating him for his latest ghinauni harkat. He is a confused, lost soul at this point doing random acts thinking one of these will hit the bulls eye. For now I will let him remain in his foggy state of mind. He deserves only our disgust, neither sympathy nor love at this point.

All I will say to Madhu is, time and again you have experienced what happens when you challenge RK. Why do you keep repeating these acts?

Time to think a different strategy to bring this bully to his knees - with or without his shirt on.

MM,

I liked your review.

That's why it is Entertainment and Analysis to me.  While I concentrated on the Episodic construct and Plot devices used to run the story, you have looked at the emotional appeal of the episode.

I too felt the same emotional undercurrents. And that is where it becomes PUSH and PULL.

Your analysis shows as to how RISHBALA PULL(Attract) each other. How much there is a latent attraction between the two Gamers and how entertained and fearless they look before each other. They are TIT for TAT and always match each other. I so like Madhu's expressions when talking to Rishabh Kundra. That's why I started thinking of him as Royal Tiger and Madhu as not a Tigress (which is actually a match), but because she looks very beautiful, I called her Royal Queen. She acts like one before him. He simply cannot avoid himself falling for her hard. If I cannot resist, how can he. I like Madhu when she fights with RK. Very much !LOL I get the kicks as RK gets completely bowled over by her fights and he reacts. Usually, RK starts his smirking acts, and she responds and then he reacts...and the entertainment goes on for me. Approve

Now the requirement is also for CVs to pull them apart. So they add external ploys to PUSH them to be antagonistic.By adding all other PUSH elements, the CVs made Madhu and RK not just be indulgent to each other in gaming, but actually to work in order to end the game...well there will be many games in future...for now it is Hostage Drama. LOL

Btw, there is Train in Indian Southern Railways...its the local Push-Pull Train between Warangal and Hyderabad...there may be many that I am not aware of...am talking about one that I know...they say it runs on Push-Pull technology which gives the mechanical momentum for the train to run.

Very interesting posts Shri and MM.  Specially liked the part below from Shri's response to MM:

Loved your tiger and royal queen analogies.  I've never perceived Madhu as weak at all -not even at the lowest point in the story.   I've always felt that RK and Madhu are two strong personalities who are more than a match for each other in their craziness and fiery passion for each other.  And its almost like - when these two are dueling (shades of a mating dance?) the others need to get out of the way.
Am waiting to see how this particular track finally reaches it climax; all the pieces (characters) seem to be in the process of being lined up on the board for the culmination.  We probably have another nice (or excruciating!) 10-12 episodes to go before this particular part gets wrapped up in some form or the other.    But doesn't it feel like there is some form of creative destruction in progress - which is to take RK's character to the depths, before (presumably) rising like the Phoenix over the next few months?  Or maybe its just more simplistic - to keep us viewers constantly confused as to who he really is.  And so, if its Monday, its "bad" RK, if its Tuesday, "good" RK, if its Wednesday... and so on and so forth...

pnars
I was laughing out loud through RK's sneers and antics. He was in full form today, unrepentant, unyielding, arrogant, full of entitlement, with all his insecurities gloriously on display. A real live superstar.

He's bound her in a physical handcuff, but really, he's the one who is chained to her. He has discovered that he cannot live without her, she has to be at literally arm's length. Forget Madhu's fidelity, he cannot bear it if anyone else is even dreaming of her. He's fallen, hard, but will not acknowledge it.

Added to this, he knows she loves him without any doubt. She will protect him from anyone, anything, even naari shakti morchawaalis out to jail him for any kind of abuse. She shouldn't have handed him this weapon!

It was previously a battle of egos. Now it's open warfare for hearts - he wants her heart, but again, it's actually about his heart - the fight of Rishabh Kundra's heart against his ego has started. May the best fighter win!

Loved it P. Thumbs Up  The fights between the wild cats were entertaining to me. If he had not taken that step of chaining, Madhu would have been on Civil Disobediance Movement with him in total Silence. I must say, I was like Madhu will soon win, but let me witness few fights. Day Dreaming LOL

zoya_naziya
I guess most part of the episode was conceived just to counter the allegations of the forumwasis!!!!

Padmini has returned within a day... Uske liye itni badi bag leke jaane ki kya zaroorat thi...

Madhu's stay at RK Mansion ka jald hi PACK UP honewala hai...
I just don't like it when Madhu lies to Padmini!!!! (My personal opinion)

Radhaji is back to being the abla naari... Bittuji as usual doesn't know why, what is happening...

The part that was important for taking the story forward is the last bit when RK asks her to give him a chance and she gives him his own dialogue back that she does not possess a heart...

1) This story is his and Madhu's ishq and junoon...and no sadakchap lol
2) He is zeher se bhara hua but no zeherila king cobra lol

3) He calls Madhu jungli billi but when Madhu calls herself jaanwar, he says - dont say that it hurts  (again forum accusation )
4) He is Right Kameena and he has heart or not, its still in a doubt
5) And ofcource the EPIC one was where he says he wont leave her no matter whether ppl keep calling him abuser, man-handling etc etc he doesnt care

I have a question - why does Madhu get so scared everytime RK gives dhamki of removing his shirt ...bechara was just changing ...thats his ace he always uses, shud Madhu do the same?

PRECAP - dont get mad and hyper, he is only teasing......i m sure kuch nahi karega
such dialogs of RK were extreme like that trophy and property one and RK does things extreme, so *sigh* u have to accept the bad too

Thanks Nishi.

Here are the Exact dialogues for clarification to Forum Groups:

RK:  Madhu, yeh Kahani hamaari hai. Ye Prem kahani Tumhaari aur Meri Hai. Yeh Madhubala Ek Ishq Aur Ek Junoon Hai, Yeh koi Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon Aur Ek Sadakchaap Nahin

RK: Phir baithi raho...Nahin kholoonga Hath-kadi, bhale hi koye, mujhpar Violence, Man-Handling aur Pagalpan ka Ilzaam lagaade

Madhu: Tumhaari yeh Insecurities, Tumhaara yeh Shaque aur Tumhaare ye Wahem ki ilaaj ki koi Capsule nahin hoon Main, Na hi main tumhaari psychiatrist hoon.

RK: Main Right Kameena zaroor hoon, par Zahar se bhara King Cobra Nahin

Sort of both Madhu and RK are neutralized by the CVs, with RK mouthing dialogues about not caring about what kind of abuser he is being perceived as and Madhu mouthing dialogues showing that she is not a helpless woman as being perceived by supportive groups and calls RK as he appears to her and refuses to be his psychiatrist or capsule to understand his behaviour. Basically the CVs are asking people to shut down analysis and just enjoy the two characters battling with each other as they are.

>>>>>I have a question - why does Madhu get so scared everytime RK gives dhamki of removing his shirt ..bechara was just changing ...thats his ace he always uses, shud Madhu do the same?

Yaar, Nishi, I cannot be as funny as you would want to be.

In moments like that of blatant "getting scared", I say to myself, Kids (RK-MB) who are you kidding actually ?!!!!!!  Then, all my fun or sarcasm mode is out and *SIGH* mode kicks in.

If Madhu were to do the same, RK would run away from the place, accusing of her trying to loot his Izzat. LOL

I was irritated and annoyed like most of the viewers with this dialogue today...but,now think that it's just R.K's lingo, the way he talks ...I am sure he would consider himself the same to Madhu too...her trophy, her personal property, her pati and her Jaanwar,Rakshas and what not... As he said he is Right Kameena but,not poisonous King Cobra...Also think he didn't realize how tying her like that seems...When Madhu says 'you tied me like an animal and asking me not to bother'...I saw a flicker of thought like 'oh...does it look like that...but, I was only tying her with my love !!'...though I don't think  he would care even if he knew...he just wouldn't ...battameez...R.K thinks, feels and expresses in a totally different plane than the rest of us...I have to agree though that however much we can understand R.K it still is hard to watch and bear his crude antics...

I wanted to recount this childhood incident of Abhishek Bachchan and his elder sister Shweta Bachchan.
  • Dad Amitabh had asked them to practice Tennis in Tennis court. Afternoon time, and Shweta who doesn't like to play, refused to play with him. Abhishek pleaded a lot and she didn't relent. Then Abhishek tied her up to the lawn tree and went into house and was about his chores in all calm and quiet. Mom calling for a long time for Shweta and finally goes for searching for her and finds her tied to the tree.
  • Another time, a fight happens over some school work, and Abhishek cut Shweta's hair.
The whole family on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, was telling about his antics and yet how all the three were looking at him with such "laad and dulaar"

Disclaimer: Not supporting RK's actions. Just thinking, this hand-cuff in happy times, the viewers would have looked as something else, like him packing her up in suitcase.

There's the movie Apur Sansar (Satyajit Ray) where Apu ties himself up his wife's Saree so that morning his wife cannot get out of bed without waking him up.  Agree Hand-Cuffs in present circumstances and that kind of dialogues totally looked villainous on him...but honest, I cannot stop laughing LOL

SD - On the same note...there  is this song from Sholay with Dharmendra and Hema Malini where he trying to woo her, I read an article sometime ago saying it is actually stalking, harassment, if one looks deeper, it gives the wrong impression because at the end of the song, she gives in to him.

SD - your post on how RK and Madhu face each other, absolutely fearless. That's what is arresting about these scenes, Madhu is never shown as scared of him, she's angry, disgusted, yes, but always looking him in the eye fearlessly.

On a different note, I am not able to find the post, but someone spoke of creative destruction...yesterday I had a diff feel at the connotation implied by 'Sadakchaap'. RK has always said it, but yest, it seemed like he was the mouthpiece of the CVs so to me,  it sounded like another creative destruction has begun..that of SUltan. He was being built up as this gangster with a heart of gold,  we did'nt really know anything abut him, his inner workings. Maybe it is time for his nautanki to begin??
