Episode 210 Discussion: 4th March 2013

The Hangover - Disturbing memories. The outdoor shooting Trip Begins

Events of the Episode
  1. RK wakes up removing Madhu's dupatta that is covering his face. Throws it away in anger as he recognizes it to be Madhu's. Then taking caring of his hangover, he remembers his tete-tete with Madhu.
  2. Bittuji comes and asks him to get ready for his shoot. RK asks Bittuji what happened and how come Madhu was here. B informs RK that RK himself had brought M along with him, with both of them being in the passenger seat and himself and driver sitting in the front seats of the car.
  3. RK gets angry and that he could never be so drunk to do such a thing and that B is lying, that it was his and his mother's conspiracy. B denies his involvement, recounts the events of the night to which he was privy to and swears on Radhaji.
  4. R enters with breakfast, B leaves. R asks RK to have sandwich, coffee and medicines. R delicately chides RK how he brought Madhu home saying he can take care of her, that his love to the extent of obsession is reflected through his act in the night and that yet if he will ever be able to accept that love he has for Madhu. She also taunts him that now he would be scared next time to drink as that would only bring out his weakness which his RK image would not like it.
  5. RK walking in the studio hits the telephone booth door, remembers himself and M's moments from the previous night inside the booth. He hits the bottle lying on the floor, remembers more.
  6. B comes and indifferently comments that RK was lucky that only B saw RK and Bhabhiji in each others arms; and that if other people would have seen them together, it would have been the talk of the town and people would have hard time understanding his actions of one moment's revenge drama and the other moment of togetherness with M.
  7. Padmini wakes up M and informs her that midday and that studio people have started calling for her. She gives tea. M cell rings and the production supervisor tells her about 4 day outdoor shoot and that she is required for her hairdressing services.
  8. M reaches the studio with her luggage, reports to the PS. He asks her to get into the bus. A creep is lustily eyeing M. He continues with his ogling throughout the journey and when they reach the location, he starts to get friendly with M. When she doesn't respond, he makes further bold advances. Frustrated M splashes glass of water over his face.

Episode Reviews
The Hangover and the repercussions of the actions of the previous night.

Overall a hangover type of episode, with heavy, morose and stuck feeling, and scary episode towards the end. So yes finally Madhu is all alone, out in the woods, metaphorically in the jungle with predators prowling around. Its time to toughen up Madhu !!!  Madhu needs to learn the rules of survival in the jungle (metahorically the other human jungle as well). She needs to know how to protect herself, whom to trust, able to quickly identify her allies and foes.  B rated episode. So they purposefully made 4 days for Madhu and 3 days for RK in the outdoor for introducing the 3rd entry. Hmmm!!

Disappointed with Radhaji. Though she taunted well for her son to register everything that she wanted to say ever since her confrontation with him on Revenge drama completion night. She told him next time he will be scared to get drunk. What Radhaji directly did not reprimand, Bittuji did that to RK by speaking aloud how the public would have viewed his act. As the entire revenge drama was drama. He spoke only the downside of RK's actions for him.

I am disappointed in both Radhaji and Bittuji that BOTH did not tell RK, in how much jeopardy he had put Madhu in, by doing what he did. He risked Madhu's public repuation. THIS IS SO NOT DONE and NOT EXPECTED from Radhaji, last of all.  Now this re-establishes her selfishness for her son and ofcourse her Bahu that they should get back together. Objectively from society point of view, I am not sure how Radhaji is thinking. Is she thinking that RK should realize quick and fast that he loves Madhu and bring back her ?? I wonder...

And along the same lines, society has started to play with Madhu's single status. Now that she is on outdoor, the predators are there out to pounce on her. Inpite of the other man reminding the bad guy of today's episode, that Madhu was RK's Ex-Biwi, the man was so high on being done with Madhu. Fine she tackled him the way she normally would, but now a weakness in the form of social stigma got attached to her. The man called her "Chodi hui". Ughh!! I was so reminded of the recent Delhi Rape Case, where men as low as drivers, cleaners, adolescent, can think of themselves superior to any woman especially if she happened to reject them. Sexual Prowess is all that matters for these sexual predators.

The introduction of the creep...Does it have a purpose or not in the episode?! But, the fact that they showed, made the episode real for me. How many times as woman, we have to be careful when we take those overnight buses for inter-state travel, as we protect ourselves from prowling eyes and also protecting ourselves even when we fall asleep.  But I actually did not like that of all the days, Madhu had to have that bad experience now. Because somehow those comments should already have started falling in her ears. To think of, working at the same studio where RK was had added that insulation to her.  Now the real repercussions of the Chawl drama by RK are in effect. Question is when will RK know that what he wanted things to happen for Madhu are now actually going to hurt him bad ??? In his vengeful state, he was well aware Madhu would have to face those comments, but now, how can he really bear to hear all this ? I guess that's why CVs are showing it now...

Throughtout the episode, the mood is about the hangover feel, with that dull headache and which keeps increasing as you start moving your facial muscles and add to that ignominy that you feel for yourself as you recollect events of the drunken glee. The glee turns into a mess.

Both RK and Madhu were in fearful state, reminding themselves about events that tell them about facts of how come they have a sleepover together. Each is worried about their own mistake committed in the folly and keep remembering that. Atleast that much they are on same bandwidth and same wavelength. Each of them have not digged further into their memories in fear of what they might see. Well we know, there were only good memories. Both behaved like as of they sinned by eating the Apple of the Garden of the Eden...or mildly put guilty pleasures...which they vehemently do not want to take it mild.

Madhu did not surprise me in her fear, RK in his reticence and quiet to his mother, listening to her surprised me. He could yell at Bittuji, but could not sat anything to his mother except for snatching the meds as she was rubbing his folly onto his face. And when in studio, Bittuji rubbed his folly again on his face, he was quiet.  What surprised me was not his silence, but the anger mixed with his acceptance of what he had done, and that he was so scared of what he did. It was like he could not believe himself capable of that...as if a new man is now inside him and he doesn't even know about it. This pensive thinking was so apt today. Finally I got to see how they painted VD's portrait there...it was this same pose.

Adding Supercool's thoughts on the juxtaposition of that RKesque, the grandeur of RK versus the Human, the flawed Rishabh Kundra and also her thoughts of what Madhu feels.

The last shot of that scene was quite interesting. We see RK sitting on his bed, and in the background there was also focus on that painting in his room. Just a few moments earlier Radhaji had even hinted about the difference between RK and Rishabh.
The way that last frame was shot, it looked like Rishabh was coming out of the persona known as RK. And slowly, the idea of RK was being sent away.
I think that was discussed last week, and even Shri mentioned it too. About how Madhu and Rishabh were moving away from that image of RK.
On the other side, Madhu looks so confused about what happened. And she seems petrified as well LOL I really want to know what's running in her head, but first she needs to sort it out.

And RK with that bomb joke with Bittuji was trying to get back to normalcy, but it sounded so hollow for his big attempt. Even Bittuji did not miss the hollowness.

Precap: Who is that man with six fingers. The thumb is split into two. Who is the man playing the Villain ?
About the set created for outdoor shoot. Its again a makeshift arrangement at Film City. So no real outdoor LOL. Check it out its the same location where they had Balraj drama and unwedding-revenge. Seems they have permanently reserved the place for themselves.

Now my question is...at outdoor shoots, do people have to live in these conditions ? If it has been me...I would say NO NO. I remember seeing this thriller movie "Khamosh" about filmi stars going on outdoor location when I was a kid. It had Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana and Amol Palekar. I watched the movie in theater. I think the stars had better living place than what they showed for MEIEJ. But that was for stars and producer. Let's see where RK gets to stay LOL

Anyways...whom I am to comment, when I don't even know how it is supposed to be for the cast and crew at outdoor locations.

Agree with Shri, "hangover" types episode. Nothing entertaining -  a lecture or two, one threat to kill, one to keep a bomb in the mouth, a whine from a petulant mom (or two!),  a sexual harrasment event - a lengthy list of reality checks against the  dream-like romance of the last two epis. The CVs brought all us back to the real world with a rude thud.

Whatever they think in their inner hearts and minds, the reality is that RK is a superstar living in a rarified a/c world, while Madhu is a common hairdresser wedged in a bus with the hoi polloi and eating dhal from the buffet in the bondoocks. She has to tolerate lowlifes letching on her to boot - a fact that millions of girls like her have to face day in and day out.

It was not entertaining, but it was realistic. This (and much worse) is the dirty underbelly of the glam world.

Even the colours of the epi were harsh - the oranges and burnt hues of the sun-drenched day versus the cool blues of the drunken night.

We are transitioning to the next track. Is Sultan the owner of the six fingered hand?

[My fantasy today was what if RK suddenly turned up when the fellow was harrassing Madhu in the buffet line? Would have beaten him up to a pulp, I think!]

Excellent review.

That was the feeling I was stuck with...for Madhu. And through Madhu I was feeling for the other girls on the outdoor shoot as well...like Bhavika, Chavvi etc.

Underbelly of the glam world.  Its tough world out there.

It was an interesting episode..Disgusting ...but lo... we all need to wake up and smell the coffee...

Madhubala Malik needs to come of age and mature to survive in the jungle... She has had a very rosy life till she took panga with the superstar...A few lows for a short duration, but even with RK she has had a very smooth ride..
She needs to face and understand the harsh realities of life, see and understand people(esp in  the industry) the way they are and not thro' her rose tinted glasses and most importantly learn to tackle them sensibly, intelligently...In short, she should become her own hero in this world...
Even if she was RK's wife the man would have ogled at her.. only that may be he would not have had the courage to come up and talk like that... She is beautiful and if she has to work in the industry, she needs to put up with creeps like this and deal with them...

RK: Love or no love... let him accept or not accept... The man needs to take responsibility for his actions... He needs to be careful of Madhu's image that gets painted in the society for the acts he does... He doesn't give a damn about his image...That's upto him...But he should understand the mess that he creates for Madhu, how she would be perceived by the society and the repercussions of his actions...

Radhaji  I was disappointed with her.. Radhaji who has always acted as a moral police for RK failed to do so today... She should have told him that whatever happened should not have happened... How would Madhu be answerable to her mom? Bittuji lied to her mom and so should she live the lie for her mom and in case it comes out in front of people, then what?

While devising his elaborate revenge plan, RK did not of course, factor in the possibility that he will end up loving Madhu. As a second issue, he's also not factored in the treatment Madhu will endure from society as his cast-off. He thinks she goes home and cosily snuggles to mommy and is safe. How will he react when he finds out what she's going through? How will it touch his conscience? I am very interested in that.

I am 100 % sure RK would have known how people would have treated Madhu after he left her. Isn't that the same reason he branded her as RK ki Laila.  Even the thing Cast-off by RK will have a permanent mark on her. That's why it is a calculated and factored in step.

What he did not factor definitely is how HE would react to society's comments on Madhu. They may focus on this in coming days. Even if the CVs do not plan on this, they have plenty of fodder to dwell on this topic.

But before he can dwell, the CVs also need to toughen up Madhu by herself and not to be dependent on male figures to protect herself. The ordinary "maamooli" girl should know how to protect/shield herself against the prowling eyes, molesters and perpetrators of all kinds.

RK, did you realize the far reaching repercussions of your revenge drama? How society in general will now view her? Her public reputation is in shreds and the creeps like that 2-thumbed guy think she is an easy prey.

@MM, if women go by the society rules and what society says or think, we'll probably go back in the Dark ages..through a serial if they are highlighting this pitfall in society's thinking, they must do it in a progressive way rather than regressive Ouch and some guy leching on Madhu has nothing to do with her being somebody's ex wife , don't you think so?..every girl walking on the road is somebody's daughter, wife or mother and all are easy preys ...haan her ex wife status cud have prevented some random guy to make advances towards her but it didn't happen..so yes, it's unfortunate ..

I agree with Charu.

Though I have to remind us that beautiful epithets like "chodi hui" [cast-off] are given only to strong women, who might have refused or rejected the advances of creeps like that man.
  • The rejection deflates the creep's ego, so he inflates his ego by slandering or demeaning the women to make himself feel better than her.
  • Sometimes, he also boosts his sagging ego/adrenaline rush by reminding himself that the women is weak (that's why could be cast-off) and so he can pump up courage into his blood and go for her.

Well said Charu and ShriThumbs Up

Coming to ego,
Madhu splashed water on his face and rejected him... His male ego would have been hit very badly...Madhu slapped Superstar RK 4 times in front of his whole cast and crew... For a superstar like him,if some girl comes and slaps him, you can only imagine how much his ego would have been hurt... He deserves it, is an altogether a different thing...

A girl just like that cannot go slapping a guy in public or handing a guy bangles...be it a superstar or mamooli... The repercussions would be very bad for the girl only... It is upto the girl to channelize her anger or frustration and use it discretely...
Why is it said that we women have something called woman instincts... You are supposed to use it... What would have happened if in his badla, RK would have gotten physical with her... the pain and hurt she is going thro' now would be ten-fold...

Malik in a fit of rage went to RK's shooting spot for defaming Madhu... In that assault with RK's body-guards and Bittuji, he sort of unclothed Bittuji's shirt, Bittuji's ego got hit so badly that he ordered the body-guards to beat him black and blue till the point of death but not let him die... Malik had to fight for his life.. What would have happened if RK had  not come up with the marriage proposal for Madhu and bartered her for 40 lacs?

Malik attacked RK for destroying his daughter's life... Agree that would have been the major reason.. But being the stunt-man he is, don't you think his male-ego would have been hit?... His physical prowess, was his strength... Well we discussed a lot of this during the Malik attack in the previous edt's i guess...  And remember Bittuji, the moment he comes to know that it was Malik who attacked RK, Bittuji's first reaction was, he went and apologised to Malik and told that it was not RK but it was I who ordered the men to beat you up...  Bittuji thought it was Malik's ego...This is a man's thinking...

The 3 main men in this show have at some point all shown their ego...
Kukku and Sikky have been unexplored in this show... But don't you think that if Kukku gets a chance, he will do a chance pe dance... Sikky- they have made him comical but the way Dipzy treats him, one day if he also gets a chance, then kisi ka khair nahi..

Men will always be like this...Prolly they are made-up this way... Like it or not...We women have to accept it and behave accordingly.. Hum kitna bhi naari morche kyun na lagaa le, nothing can be done... It's a bitter truth...

An aside... We all know of the famous Salman-vivek Oberoi spat... Oberoi was such a promising actor(Road, Company,Saathiya, Yuva, etc) but what happened after he got into a r'ship with Ash... and then came that oh-so-famous press conf of Vivek against Sallu that ruined his entire career... Poor soul, he is still struggling to find a foot-hold in the industry...

Bottom line superstar se panga na lo... Mamooli ho ya khud ek star in the making ho..LOL

Okay... I started off with sth but ended up with sth else.. Now i don't remember what i exactly wanted to tellOuch

Zoya,

Well written. I remember those ED's where we discussed Shamsher's ego.

@bold
you are so right at all those points. How can one ignore or not learn the basic tenets of life?!

I really don't get it why Madhu behaves like this. Honestly I too did not like Madhu splashing water on that creep's face. Even when I was in teens, I had better sense than Madhu. I don't understand why Madhu was looking so naive and had to splash water...unless she is really gutsy...like some of the women/young women I used to see in AP metro...those women could easily show their footwear.  And why was Madhu wandering away into wilderness?  You know, no matter how much she is guilty or she feels bad about that comment, the same woman's 6th instinct would have made her stay close to her group (herding instinct). Don't the lionesses also live in groups (called pride). Madhu is really acting very naive...that's why she needs to get realistic...fast...before Sultan or RK helps her out.

Thing is I cannot even defend Madhu now, because she displayed the idiocy of not being wordly wise, ignoring woman's 6th instincts in the way she tackled Mukund and RK.  That image is going to stay forever in my mind until she learns to be something mature about handling those situations. To think of ...Madhu is so flawed in this regard that she doesn't even know what she lacks. Trishna may not have high morals like Madhu, but she like Padmini can survive from the predators of the world. That's such a saving grace for her. Atleast one will not worry every second that someting bad will happen to her. Atleast here Trishna fulfils the role of being Deedu. She has always rightly advised Madhu about RK...I really wonder how she knew. Does she know the working of an egoist mind ?

Don't know...today for Madhu...I felt very sad...as in the girl...didn't just grow up the right way. Period. She is far too crazy than she appears. She is headstrong and has grown up like a princess rather than an ordinary girl. Why she lacks the basic sense that every other girl has??. Juxtaposed to her, RK can never be seriously blamed...if this was going to be a social drama.

Hmmm...the prides, the vanities, the foibles and hypocrisies of mankind !!!

Very well said Shri. Agree with every line.

The most important thing Madhu lacks to be worldly wise is FEAR. So far she has been shown way too crazy and fearless in her dealings with the outer world and especially the men. I believe most women fear such anti-social elements to certain extent and hence they have certain self-imposed restrictions in handling men around them. Unless you fear some thing, how will you learn to protect yourself from it?

I agree with Zoya. This is all about male ego and to deal with it, we women have to play defensive for our own well being. Attack is not the best policy to employ in such situations. IMO, fear in this regards is not cowardice. Fear combined with a woman instinct is her best weapon to survive in this society, where predators roam around unleashed.

Bottom-line: Madhu needs to learn how to FEAR and thus put a check on her actions.

Ananya, Shri,
Is it fear or common sense that she is lacking here? The common sense to judge when to engage and when to retreat?

MM, I believe common sense in such matters comes from fear which makes you question the repurcussions of your actions, and which Madhu lacks. Its hard for me to recollect a incident in MBverse where I have seen a terrified Madhu.

Ananya,And that's why I showed the common sense of the jungle for the most fierce wild cat, which is the lioness. Even lionesses fearing lions live in herds (called pride). What can be more adept teaching than that live jungle example.

You know, in the jungle, even these wild cats fight for only few seconds or minutes. They indulge in scaring off techniques without actually getting physical. You know why ? because their fights can be brutal, with them being injured so bad with their limbs getting torn. And you know, how they are dependent only on their limbs for their survival !! for hunting, survival...

Man!!! The Jungle has more wisdom than all this mankind in the garb of language and brain can teach us.

this tack wasnt very well planned it evident. Both DD and VD shared, in the live chat, that the creatives had told them just a few weeks back they were planning on taking this twist and both were shocked. There focusing on trps and not coherency in character and story developement. I honestly dont what two make out of RK at this point. Im killing myself trying to make sense of his character. On top of that they keep on showing women's rights issues on the side when they realize the main plot of the story is so against women's rights? Do they realize???

I disagree. Being an independent woman myself, I am quite convinced that Madhu rubbed RK the wrong
way.

Women's rights...for cheating in marriages, one has recourse only through divorce/marriage courts. There is no law which will protect you for not being reciprocated in love and then being abandoned...but if Madhu is go to court, she still has the chance to be RK's wife until matter gets settled by court since RK will have to prove the grounds for his marriage annulment (the un-wedding).

If women were really worried about Madhu, all of them(in the forum) should have raised that Madhu should go to court...or may be as Madhu thinks...they are just seperated and not yet divorced. Still as many of us expressed, we are not clear what is their marital status now. Are they still married or divorced. One becomes EX only after divorce. The court doesn't grant divorce in a day. Even for mutual consent, a minimum period of 6 months is required.

Since...we don't want all of that, we are enjoying the drama as is...only today I am unable to believe that Madhu was not able to handle a creep or may be I just blew it up out of proportions and that Madhu may actually handle the guy tomorrow.

So I think I am done for the day on this debate then. LOL  Peace. I will wait and watch what Madhu does tomorrow.
