Seems afterall SPOILERS, PROMOS, NEWS Brings the TRPs and that's why Colors giving out so much news.

Last week Action Drama actually RESTORED MEIEJ its lost TRP since the beginning of the month, when it started with 4.1 and it had gone down to 3.1 by the end of Jan 3rd week. So the fourth week went back to 4.1 and ending with 3.7. This week's average is 3.6 being 5th in overall GEC ranking.

You are right.  Radhaji gets TRPs. Padmini and Shamsher also get TRP.  I am thinking, even Trishna gets TRPs as she increases drama.

If I go by TRP statistics, we can see that drama with Rishbala bond gets TRPs than just Rishbala romance. If we see the highest TRP, in last two weeks, OUTCOMES related drama has fetched hight TRP, be it 
  • RK-Radhaji patch up, 
  • Padmini-Shamsher love/marriage track, 
  • Padmini remarriage and Radhaji's support for her, 
  • Padmini's visarjan of her marriage symbols
  • Rishbala repeat of 4 phera at that lakeside set
  • Balraj action drama dhamaka at the lakeside set
Plain Rishbala romance without any outcome is definitely not getting any TRP...as in the 4 phere on 17th Jan had sense of commitment and their romance on that day was them taking it to next level with Halwayee ki dukaan and suggestive romance, hence a good TRP.

So they need to keep healthy supporting cast...And I always love that..

Also, many in the forum are saying that Saturday action dhamaka lost on TRP, because people did not know about the timings and Colors did not promote or spread the awareness about the change in schedule...that Colors favours Balika Vadhu and SSK.

It is always a strong story or dialogues or supporting cast gets TRPs . Take the case of Balika Vadhu, the story doesn't revolve around the lead pair but they have stories around supporting cast also. It always clicks. MB has wonderful supporting cast. Ballu toh sone pe suhaga for them.

And even in the coming romantic outing track they are getting Markhand Deshpande as cameo. He is one good actor. MB team definitely knew now what fetches TRPs for them.

i dun understand this TRP kahani..Ekta kapoor type narrative ACTUALLY works with the audience...suspense, drama, dragging, couples with good looking faces, grand sets, throw in some festivals here n there..
Lets not compare MB to BV bec. BV has been running for so long, it has it's loyal audience..n they hit jackpot yet again with shiv and anandi and another one coming up..in b/w IPKKND gave tough competition to BV...and SSK ka toh naam hi na lo..it's one serial jiske fans bhi uski hasi udate hai someone wrote in SSK forum ke those who watch SSK should be awarded and SSK has higher TRP's than MB... only relying on saas bahu drama and tears...
I personally hated all Colors shows till i came across MB...SP used to be better contentwise...pyar ka dard hai n all r dramebaaz serials but it's a good mix of everything so it clicks..and YR also ..at some point i was crazy about tht show but i cannot stand it now...neat &  clean drama sans villains and vamps..Veera is good...SP is the only channel which works on a different format..otherwise all zee, colors serials and few frm sony also r exactly similar...MB is cut above the rest they better stick to whatever they r doing n not change the format..it's one of the top 5 shows, aur kya chahiye ..they DARE NOT make it SSK type.

Thanks SD for compiling the info. Am wondering why the TRPs dipped on saturday. Obviously, the friday night 's trps show an upward trend. How and why did the anticipation not translate? 
Was it the timing, the show did start later than usual, and saturday nights generally are busy for most families. Maybe this 6 day airing is not a great idea.

reason is simple Soundarya...saas, bahu, and bache hardly like to watch action on small screen..woh bhi third class..they wud rather change the channel n watch any bollywood movie...
i wonder , did BV get good TRP's on saturday? bec. they publicized kite fight b/w shiv and jagiya which concluded TODAY 4 epi. se patang competition ho raha tha, imagine !

Soundarya, they didn't advertise the specific timing until very late.
The ep-timing wasn't even 9pm instead of 8.30pm. It was actually 9.10pm.
The fact that the ep managed to get such good TRPs even despite the channel's timing-announcement slack is terrific.

The timing changes and being a saturday caused the dip in TRP. Saturday, families have a different schedule than regular weekdays. You cannot expect people to accomodate their schedule for TV show. And moreover, people have to get attuned to Saturday schedule. They show it on 2 saturdays, then one saturday they have screen awards and then next saturday mahaepisodes. How are people gonna remember ?
Still it managed to get 3.7. That's a good one. Come to think of it MB is just 0.8 down from BV and TMKOC. 

Colors need to find a 150 minute worth content for their saturdays. FAST...they need to do it fast.

All star shows have slided down and all Zee shows have shot up. And ZEE beat the GEC race thise week. Its numero uno for last week. What is Zee's new strategy ? MAHASANGRAM episodes where they club two shows. Check this.

From the beginning itself, TRP's ne original plot ki already game baja daali hai... The show was supposed to somewhat be a ground-breaking show but it has become somewhat run-of-the-mill type due to the TRP pressure... Agreed that the show still has a unique beauty and charm attached to it and that the CV's  have managed to weave a beautiful tale given their constraints and I quite appreciate their efforts in churning out content that is quite different from other shows but nevertheless they have already lost their plot, original character-sketches,etc.IMO the CV's are meandering somewhere in between trying to find a footing that would blend in their intended original essence with the current scenario...
The reason why Colors is putting so pressure on the makers for TRP is that they have only BV,SSK and MEIEJ to give them their much needed channel ratings
According to me, Colors channel needs to come up with more content and not rely on just BV,SSK and Madhubala  to stay in the race... I read somewhere that if even one of these shows falters the Colors GRP points would fall low.. So Colors would obviously put pressure on the makers to deliver content that would fetch TRP's... And this being ,Nautanki films first show, will have to succumb to the channel demands if the numbers fail to come in...  
Would Colors have done the same thing they did had it been a Balaji show? Would they have still exercised so much power? 
If the channel comes up with  more decent shows that contribute to garnering good channel ratings, it would ease the pressure on the CV's to experiment with their ideas much more than they are doing now...

Game changer was for new states were added, which are known to be strong for Star. And hence STAR is now GEC leader with app 50 points gain from this change. It toppled colors. 

Winning news is that MEIEJ inspite of those changes has still maintained its position.

Producer of Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, Saurabh Tiwari said, "Yes, I definitely feel that there should be some surprises. TAM meters are being set up on a wide scale and its market is increasing. So, obviously we might get to see some of the unexpected things in it. I am happy that Madhubala managed to hold a good position in the rating list post digitization. According to the feedbacks I keep on getting, the craze of Madhubala is much more inclined towards bigger cities and the new cities which have been added in the revised rating list are not much Madhubala or Colors oriented cities. Why same % drop for all 3 Colors soaps

Observation
All the 3 colors shows's TRPs fell drastically for week 6?

Balika Vadhu fell to 3.9 from 4.7 (0.8 drop) ---> 17% drop
SSK fell to 3.1 from 4.0 (0.9 drop) --> app 22 % drop
MEIEJ fell to 3.0 from 3.9 (0.8 drop) --> app 20% drop
relatively the other 2 new shows; NBT fell by 6.25%    and Sanskaar fell by 13 %

Why app same drop for all three soaps ?  Any coverage area changed  in TRP capture?
If all three shows have app same % drop then that is Channels popularity drop at three different times and not show's popularity.

Answer lies in sample size who passed this verdict. We were not informed if any new cities were added.

In GRP (GEC) terms, only ZEE gained.

As for MEIEJ...the only public news was Promo and there was no Spoiler news in SBB, ABP, E24 or National dailies likes TOI. TRP audience do not visit IF-TB news articles...I don't think they knew about Sourabh Tewari's tweet. 

Going by MEIEJ TRP break-up, people watched on Monday...promo came out for Saturday...and again TRP is better for saturday. Lack of news and the reason abt Channel not being popular for people is coming out clearly.  

These results are BIG UPSET for Colors channel...business wise, because, how all their soaps rating drop in the same manner?  BV and SSK going down is a BIG JHATKA for Colors, I think...

The channels which gained this week are ZEE, SET MAX , Movies Ok and Sahara One and biggest loss is for Star Plus this week, where as it had steep rise in previous week 5

Overall 2 week analysis since new 4 new cities got added.
The channels which gained over the two weeks are STAR Plus, ZEE, SET MAX , Movies Ok and Sahara One.

That Zee moved ahead and Star fell back, means more cities were added or Zee investigated last week's drop and may be calculation was corrected in its favour.

So Colors did not lose a lot from last week, but the gain in other two channels Star Plus and Zee has made it look as if Colors top three shows fell.  Interestingly all Colors top shows fell in the range of 17 to 22 % for prime time. Its two new shows also had a fall.  There is no rating yet available for their weekend show Nautanki.

Clearly Colors should know the skewed results and its vision was to be Number one this year. They need to plan more.

As for the Fiction content, IMO, all three Top shows of Colors are dramatically poised at major upheaval tracks and actually positioned with interesting stories...their stories at this time grip the audience because, one single action from a member of the drama, finishes the tug of war...they are very closely tied at this moment. So the shows are not failing. All three of them still have their loyal audience which is in the range of 3 to 4 TRP, which is still good  at this time. As the base increases, more cities are added, then Colors may actually find, it is not at all popular in rest of India 

So don't worry for MEIEJ Story...worry for Colors itself

Slowly they are taking into consideration all the small towns and cities in India and according to the news they were to have entire India covered by the end of March. That i suppose was a deadline. Now you cannot deny the fact that Zee being the oldest channel has reach to the remotest of the cities in India. So its natural for  Zee to gain... Besides SP too is an older channel with good reach.

Until last week i guess the TRP's were from Major metros and cities in India and colors does have a good hold there but not in the small towns as far as i know... So i guess it was kind of expected.

Reason behind last week TRP fall
Last week TRP dropped by almost 1 point, The reason behind TRP drop last week was not the track as per TRP charts...

We all know new phase is added in TRP chart, In this new phase Punjab, Haryana n Himachal Pradesh is also included...

Madhubala Weekle average TRP in one of these State is = 0.9 (only)

Don't know which state in particular but one of these state showed its impact on TRP fall

Seems one of those states is not Colors Channel friendly. Well, now I feel, ZEE is going to lead...20 years completed in India post liberalization. And Star started Hindi programming in 1999. 6 years after Zee.

Look at these dynamics then...

In the years after Murdoch purchased Star, an agreement with Subhash Chandra prohibited Star from creating Hindi-language programming, so Star relied mainly on English-language imported programming. Star was third in Indian market share (3%) behind Zee TV (12%) and Sony (11%). For four years until 1999, Star had losses of nearly US$500 million. Consequently, Murdoch revamped Star management; programming chief Sameer Nair decided to start creating Hindi-language programming to target "mass instead of class."[5]

And then Viacom 18  -MTV  was under Star umbrella and now it has become Colors Channel 


TRP analysis - Week 7th - 11th Feb to 16th Feb

Channel wise Life OK and Gold has big leap. Star and Zee had drops from last week, though they still are 1 & 2 respectively. Colors is still 3rd and has maintained its position with not much change in its GRP ratings. It just fell by 1 point from 206 to 205.

Over Colors, the leader is SSK with 0.8 leap (25% increase) followed by MEIEJ and BV with 0.4 leap making it 13% and 10% approx increase respectively. Their other shares did not see much change. Nautanki gets added.

MEIEJ is still at 10th position and we would wish it to succeed. All that ST and his team did to maintain secrecy of the plotlines; had kept the excitement levels up which was the reason of increase in TRP.

GRP wise Colors and Sony and Max gained for week 8 and Star Plus and Gold had seen a decrease in points even as SP leads. Rest of the other channels maintained their positions. Colors gained 30 points which is 14.63 % increase from last week.

Uttaran & MB had the highest increase amongst Colors Fiction content, a 22% and 11% increase respectively. Even the two new shows of Colors have a snail-pace but steadily increasing TRP. That irritating movie promo of Khiladi 786 premier in between MEIEJ, that you guys mentioned in your episode takes; afterall got a 6.5 trp in Dellhi. Contributing hugely for the leap made by the channel. MEIEJ is 6th with 3.7  because Sapne Suhaane took lead. Overall in colors MEIEJ and BV maintained its position with 0.1 decimal drop from last week whereas SSK and Uttaran fell by huge margin. As for the other two new shows, Sanskaar gained one point and NBT lost one.

GRP wise SP has huge lead this week.  Colors dropped to 225 from 230

Seriously - I started getting the vibes of boring drama on Friday and I watched the episode late at night.
And on saturday, when I watched it, I was like it was dearth of drama...and when Zoya called me and I heard her dejected voice asking what's going on...I just said...May be time to stop watching it...may be we should take a break for March and come back in April...LOL LOL

Not to flog the TRP horse yet again, but when I first saw the news about the TRP dip this week, I thought that its no big deal, there's always week to week variations. 

Then I wondered what it really means, vis-a-vis the previous weeks' TRPs this year.  So I did a totally back-of-the-envelope kind of analysis (which probably has a zillion holes**, so it's only for this discussion thread) and plotted out the TRPs from week 47 last year onwards.   If the channel or the PH were looking at the somewhat downward sloping linear trendline, they would probably start getting worried if there's any further drops in TRPs over the next few weeks.  Just saying...


** for example, not a complete apples to apples comparison - because of the addition of new markets..

Its not all that bad really  - when you think of how the TRPs for the show have really gone up over time.  Week 47-48 last year was pretty good.   It's floating around the 3.5 - 3.7 rate on average.  Its just that if it continues to go down - in the 3.2-3.5 range, its probably not good.

18th - RK insults Madhubala in front of everyone as Sultan broke the windshield of his car and left a note for him. Madhubala goes to meet Sultan and tells him about her condition. She tells Sultan not to commit these kinds of things in future. (3.6)


19th -RK calls Madhubala under the influence of alcohol and asks her for the phone number of her lover. Madhubala disconnects the call. Meanwhile, Sultan comes at Madhubala's house and apologizes to her regarding his action of breaking RK's windshield (3.5): 

20th - After learning the fact that the person he saved is none other than RK himself, Sultan takes out his gun to kill him, but somehow manages to stop himself. He drops RK at his house where Radha and Bittoo are waiting for him (3.4)

21st- RK switches off all the lights in the studio leaving just one spot light switched on. He questions Madhubala what is the name of the guy in her life. Madhubala, in reply, tells him that the guy he meets is Sultan and she doesn't have any relation with him. (3.3)

22nd - Sultan goes to stop some of his men from smuggling drugs, but his men conspire against him and try to kill him. Sultan, somehow, manages to put the drugs on fire and escape from there. Meanwhile, Sultan's servant drops Aryan at Madhubala's place and tells Madhubala that he is going in search of Sultan. (3.2)

23rd (saturday): 2.6


*TRP dropped everyday.. it started in a goodnote and it keep decreasing everyday like some people lost their interest everyday and stopped watching... it was a gradual fall*

This week's average TRP of 3.3 is not great, but it's still decent.  Once again, I did my back-of-the-envelope trend chart for TRPs* and you can see the declining trend.   Another couple of weeks of this, and people running the show are going to be saying "ouch"
(* caveats being- this is really rough, doesn't take into consideration a bunch of things like when new markets were added, digitized, etc etc)


I think that if the TRPs were actually reported next week, they would show a further drop (daily TRPs last week were dropping every day; its still the same track;  and like many others, I found the show hard to watch this week!!)  
So then I really got into the question of speculating what TRPs might be like for this week, and churned some numbers based on the Mon-Sat daily TRP trends for the last few weeks.   And...my rough (data driven) forecast for TRPs this week is the 2.9 - 3.2 range.    Which would be pretty sad for the channel/PH, if it actually came true...
Talking about this track, I can see why the PH introduced a new main character - doesn't make sense for a Mon-Sat show to run only based on two leads (burnout, burnout!!)   Also, people have referenced IPKKND - and how it closed down because the male lead quit the show.  I guess the MB folks don't want to be in the same position at some point, and are hence developing another lead, perhaps along the lines of an ensemble cast.  
But what perplexes me about this strategy is how they have executed it.  I would imagine that in a best case scenario, they would want to bring in new viewers,  but also keep the core/base.  But here, they seem to be antagonizing/turning off the base while bringing in some new viewers.  Antagonizing the core base makes sense, if they think  that the new viewer base that they swap in will be bigger than the old ones they swap out.   Problem is, TRPs seem to indicate that there's not enough new takers for the new track to make up for the viewers who are put off, and are switching channels or shutting off their TV.
So, I guess the bottom line of my ramble is  - this track needs to start making some sense sometime fairly soon'..
