Episode 230 Discussion: 27th March 2013

Madhubala has a right to move on. Is it the end of Rishbala ? Is it the beginning of Sulbala ?

Events of the Episode
  1. Sultan expresses the indebtedness that he feels towards Madhu for taking care of his son and saving his life through removing the bullet from his wound. He asks her to price her service as he does not to feel obligated to her. Madhu says her services are like complimentary gift and if he still wants to pay her back, then start giving his son a life that does not look like Boxing Ring. Sultan gets angry and tells Madhu that, Aryan's mother left him the next moment Aryan was born. And from that time to this time, he has been with his son, including the time when he had polio fever, not Madhu and so he knows what is needed and what not for his son. [**Sulbala effects commenced with both feeling conscious of each other and talking at the same time**]
  2. Radhaji comes to Padmini. Asks about Madhu's presence and expresses her concern that Madhu may have fallen into bad company as Rishabh said. Padmini gets angry and asks Radhaji what right she has to ask about Madhu like this or even doubt her. Radhaji, says she was just expressing her concern for her daughter-in-law. Padmini reminds R that the relationship was broken by her son and she has lost all rights. R, says she agrees and asks P, if Madhu has really moved on. Padmini tactfully puts her foot down and asks R, if Madhu wishes to move on, she has every right to move on and no one can stop her. And that instead of judging her daughter's actions, R should worry about her son's vile character and his actions. R asks P's forgiveness and goes away from Chawl.
  3. Madhu wants to call her mother and apprise her situation. She wants to go out. Sultan says its not safe to venture out. Madhu steps out anyways. Encounters Bhujang's men looking out for Sultan. Madhu misleads them and runs to Sultan's hideout and warns him of Bhujang's men. As they plan to escape from there, the thugs walk into Sultan's hideout. Sulbala, Aryan and Kakaa make an exit from backdoor. The escape drama continues with Madhu once again pulling RK out of the men's sight. Episode ends. To be continued tomorrow. [***Sulbala effects continue with Sultan showing his concern for Madhu and Madhu showing her concern for him, where Sultan keeps staring at Madhu and not where she is looking into***]

I want them to just end RK's character in this show and move ahead with bhaibala like this. Atleast we would have the option of stop watching.

I second you on that Chakku! CVS ,If you can't keep the integrity of a character built up so superbly over so many months, its best to finish off the character on the show instead of frustrating us disgruntled  viewers! That will be a fresh new start for the show and new fans too!

Are the CVs convinced of the potential in a romance track between sultu and madhu?? Are the actors convinced? Then why did that scene when madhu is looking over sultu's shoulder look sooo cringeworthy??? where is that explosive chemistry people are talking about???

When Sultu said tum aryan ki kuch nahin why was DD's expression a milder version of the same expression she gave when RK said RK unweds Madhubala???

What is with this Madhubala's character?? She was acting as if Sultu got her at gunpoint to do their seva in that khandahar and she is fighting him to call his mom.. Her I will do what I want and U have to do what i want is sickening..   I am sorry but DD's expressions when she is in that avatar gets on my nerves... It reminds me of those nightmarish days when i used to get disgusted by the expressions of Goddess Tulsis and Parvatis who always had a I am the best, purest soul on god's green earth... I cant explain that expression... she is bulldozing herself into their lives and she has such an arrogant expression on her face as if she is doing them a favour against her wishes..

They had such a UNIQUE and RARE character in their hands and why would they bucther him to introduce this ghisa pita run of the mill hero??? Post revenge also there was still lot of potential in the storyline if they had focussed on RK Madhu.. Even a different kind of new character would have worked.. but this action track is ridiculous.. Now sultubala seems like a certainty... I just hope they kill of RK.. My fault for expecting anything from Indian TV show.. Its a miracle that atleast until last of the drunk scene episode RK's character was intact... to keep the essence of a character such as RK intact for so many months was an achievement in Indian TV so thank you for that writers.. sorry for my rant ... But There was such tremendous potential in that character.. i guess i m just mourning the loss of Rk..:(((

Something in the phangurl in me died today. Madhu had a near eyelock with Sultan, and yes they shared some close moments of empathy or sympathy, call it what you will. I miss Rishbala and RK. Their intense relationship was why I started watching this serial. Madhu may move on, but it's not so easy for me. Given how this is trending, I should probably take a break from MEIEJ.

  • Am going to tweet to ST that the background music drowns out most of the so called dhasoo dialogues. At least to that he cannot say don't hear and don't watch.
  • I don't know where this drama is going honestly. Glaring bloopers...Madhu did not tell those goondas she saw the man from far away, she had said she saw him around some place, and she points in one direction. How did they presume she saw him from afar??  Looks like the goondas believe she'd been standing in  the same place since the night before doing peheredaari??
  • Like I said once before, am not going to call Sultan and Madhubala...Sultanbala. So anyway, what is it with these two and their close encounters ?
Rant over

Madhu and Sultan try to apologise to each other for their behaviour. Madhu asks him to accept her removing his bullet as a complimentary gift. RK se itna to sikha, dialogue marna. And she asks him to stop behaving like a commander in chief to Aryan. He rightfully tells her off, saying that she is noone to Aryan, and he is his father. Madhu is stunned that someone could actually return her complimentary gift with interest!!

At the chawl, Radhaji visits, and slyly tries to ask paddy about Madhu. The moment she says Rishu, Paddy closes down completely. She is worried about Madhu, but what right does RK have to ask, after what he has done?? She also says Madhu has every right to move on and be happy. Radhaji has no answer.

LOLIn the meanwhile, Madhu leaves to call her mom (am not even going to get into Sultan  trying to stop her because it was total TP convo, almost as if they are trying hard to stretch the episode). She runs into Bhujang's gang, gives them wrong wrong directions, comes back warns Sultan, they try to leave, Bhujang 's goondas reach the place. Nail biting escape...Madhu saves Sultan from being spotted by pulling him close, she is totally into saving him, but Sultan cannot help but get lost in her eyes.... ...bas, am done with the summary.

For all the clunk...can I still see some scope for further entertainment? Random musings:
  • For once, Madhu wanted to walk away from trouble. After that whatever happened was inevitable, we all saw it coming. She is getting pulled into the whirlpool of bhaigiri willynilly,
  • There is a love triangle coming. ...Madhu is not in the mood for a relationship but am kind of worried seeing RK's tevar yesterday. if he does not start using his grey cells, he could be in serious trouble. Sultan is falling for her, plus with an added attraction...cutie Aryan. But Sultan knows RK still loves her. Again, I am not going to speculate about the turn things could take...because CVs are upto something.
  • The closeness between Sultan and Madhu somehow, reminded me of RK-Dipali as in the CVs know it is not wanted, not liked, not appreciated but they're putting it in, as a teaser. I hope I am right.
  • Last but not the least, what is RK going to do now?? Big question. I badly want him to change his strategy in life. But who am I?? As a viewer, I am looking forward to this phase in his life. So yes, to all of those getting worried...there is some drama left to look forward to. Remember he has just gone on an outdoor shoot, he has not disappeared from the scene yet.

By myself.
Leela, No worries. The thread will be up. I have a plan now. And I found my lieutenants.  It is surprise for now. And hope those who know shall keep it as a surprise until I plan to reveal.

Coming to me...I have a disconnect with the show at the moment. The stab was given yesterday with RK scene. But in parallel, I had other hurts going on...especially within the EDT. Misplaced sympathies and lack of principle have hurt me. I can never feel the same when that kind of disconnect with the seed, the idea; is finally felt by me on emotional level.  And I need a timeout for myself.

So until the point I watch the show...I might have questions like anyone. I am asking you and I want you to explain me. Why?  I need an answer that might stimulate my mind. Anyway you answer is fine...just be completely natural and as it seems to you...not influenced by anyone.

Question is:
Do men like Sultan exist, who can listen to lectures and taunts ?  In my opinion, lectures and taunts...unwarranted ones...create negative energy. Then how come Sultan is able to keep his cool ? Don't most gangsters have difficult character ? Aren't they complex ? What is it that makes Sultan hold on to his calm under stressful lectures and taunts ?  Does Sultan not know lectures and taunts ? And is it the first time in his life that he is listening to communication modes like that ? But IMO even when a child gets lectured by teacher and taunted wrongly, it rages so much, that angers turns into tears. Right ? Didn't that happen to you ?

Anyways...thing is ...I am curious...why is Sultan shown as the reservoir of tolerance towards lectures and taunts. In Mahabharata Sahdev was symbolic of tolerance. But I wondered in the story...why Sahdev could not withstand his thirst and answer Yaksha Prashna, if he was so tolerant.

Of course why this facet interests me is because...here we become intolerant of the lectures and taunts and there the man is calm and quiet. Makes me wonder...he must be one of a kind and one of a specimen. Right ?

Another person I look forward to hear from ...because I need to hear their voice to calm down is Hima.  If Hima is still reading the reviews, she can answer me. Else, I am going to contact her Doves over pm.  I feel like reaching out to them today.

Looking forward to hear from you.

ETA: Anyone else who has an answer is welcome to answer me.
The questions pertain very much to today's episode as also from past two episodes. So a lingering them since introduction of Sultan and hence my question. At this point it is not a META topic.

[QUOTE=undisclosed]
to shri...in regards to her gangster tolerance question...my answer is there are different types of gangsters...

SD: First of all, I want to reiterate that I greatly appreciate your effort in creating and managing EDT. There are days I have  given a miss to the show (deliberately) but I really feel bad when I am unable to visit EDT. Love you and appreciate all great writers here, for coming up with such wonderful writeups of the episodes, for having the courage to call a spade, a spade, and also for giving us the comical respite when the makers have gone wayward and are taking us for a foolish ride.

Of course, I am against selling ideas that we want to see in the show and deprive the CVs of their creativity, but then when the creatives have lost their vision and are trying to shove any random stuff down our neck, I am not one of those who would sit back and take it as given. There I royally decide (and not let ST or anyone else dictate me) whether or not I want to continue watching the show. I have all the right to voice what I don't like in the show, purely from the CVs neglect to watchout the tolerably illogical levels in the name of entertainment and not on the personal level of any of the crew. It is a serial alright. Creatives have the liberty to be illogical and naive and stupid but not at the cost of making me feel like a fool repeatedly for that half hour of the show. I chose certain shows because they entertain me as I watch them being myself. At the end of the episode I must not be left to feel foolish, lost unhappy and with distaste. Then the whole purpose of entertainment is beaten there. If I feel that way, then I am watching one of the many make-one-feel-stupefied shows. And that is where I concur absolutely with your feeling of disconnect with the show. I mean it.

Again I have no issues with an introduction of a new character to bring more layers to the story-telling but there must be some integration of events and characters. The characters have to have a connection. Probaly they are still setting the stage for the new characters introduced but honestly I feel all characters are disheveled so much right now that the feeling of hopefulness for retreat is lost in me. I seriously think I need a break. I have nothing against the actors. I have enjoyed VD and DD then and even now, but what I lost now are my fav characters RK and Madhu. Where are they? What are they heading to? Avinesh is doing good but he fails to stimulate my mind. As a viewer, what do I make of him? CVs, you inclined to introduce him to be a sinewy don, not just physically but mentally too. But why is a don so weak with matters of mind and heart. His rugged looks, grim face, and tough sounding voice with a few words is not helping him to look like a don that you wanted to portray. You let him hear a random girl come to him and rattle off without an iota of feeling that she is actually talking to a stranger, leave alone a don. Sultan, you let her yap and that too right from the word go, she went on and on, of WHAT? Your lack of parenting skills and emotions towards your son. What the hell?

Ms. Hauslon se veer ho goes wandering into the woods and bumps into a bound boy. She tries to save him from the goons. A man comes and shoots off all the men and she misunderstands the man to be one among the goons and fights him to save the boy. OK... alright.. then? It dawns on her after a while that the man is the actual father of the boy. Haila... Now what will our Ms. Righteous do? She does not feel anything but anger at the unknown man, that too a gangster. She immediately figures out the child is deprived of childhood and the man is abusing the child. Now she goes rightaway cracking the lessons on parenting. And our superman just looks, glares, and again looks with knotted brows. He puts the gun against her head but doesn't he know nothing deters our Junior mother India? Nothing deters her, not even the fact that it is night and she is in the midst of the jungle, that her mother and others who are worried about her whereabouts, safety etc. the immediate mission is restoring the child rights for the boy whom she just met in the wee hours under unnatural circumstances, not even the fact that she is actually dealing with a SULTAN. How more filmy can a film-based serial get? OK, we know that this serial is a dedication to 100 years of cinema but still... come on CVs... you have no rights to underestimate creativity of Indian cinema.. that is not fair, or is it?

I have the same questions as you, SD. Now how many of us can take that from a total stranger? RS says that it is this character of our righteous puritan Ms. Dare-all and Know-all, is a beauty and USP of the show. REALLY? Didn't she try to sell the show with the same funda with Mukund then as the scapegoat? Didn't they need an RK to catapult the show? I am not trying to weigh the characters here, but I am trying to highlight that how the CVs drove the characters in the direction of entertainment by giving due importance to the relevance of the characters and their unique characteristics. Now RK is not RK any more. Madhu whom I liked so much initially has turned into a rebellious child woman, who leaves no chance to annoy, argue, and preach on anything and everything with anyone in the world (underworld???).

SD, let me stop my rants. I am going on and on. Unleashed my long time intention though. I don't want to be so hard on our show that I liked so much once. I hope they still can work to stimulate our brains and entertain our minds. They might underestimate the audience, but I still want to give them yet another chance and wait a bit and see what happens before calling it quits completely.

I value everyone's views. Purely my views and no offense meant to anyone.

Shri,

I have stuck to written updates ( even skipped a few) so not sure what's being shown - but I have a fair idea.  I have a total disconnect with the show at this point -  I cannot relate to Madhu, her lectures, her actions ...
Lectures are difficult to digest, like you said even kids tune out lectures very easily.
I feel RK put up with Madhu's lectures because he either gave back  sensible answers ( during Ganapathi drama ) or was indulging her - like a child. He changed ( both towards God and his mom ) - again not because of lectures but one on his own and with his mom when what Madhu said struck a chord.

Sultan - I can only think of 2 reasons he puts up with it

1.  He's the strong/silent types who does not want to reply to taunts/lectures because that would mean opening himself  - will make him less insular from the world around him. You can kill for a living only when you insulate yourself from others - probably true for army/dons, anyone who have to kill on order.

2. He's at a disadvantage in the power equation - he's powerless to reply. Why would he be powerless - obligation or circumstance - not sure.

That's the whole reason I can't connect to Madhu -  Most people are aware of their weakness and  trying to do the best they can,  Madhu is never a listener  to RK or anyone - she judges and become a moral police. In that way, she acts like a person way up above ordinary mortals and goes on about right/wrong, very tiring  and unpalatable !

I gotta be blind. I don't see any chemistry between Madhu and Sultan sizzling or otherwise.  Madhu, Sultan , to me they looked more like brother and sister. What eye-lock yaar. It was more like eye popping. Who can bulge their eyes the most.
If they do get married it will most likely be an arranged marriage and that too because their horoscope matches.

Shri, you asked about How Sultan is able to take taunts and lectures from Madhu.
Now I ain't leela or Hima who might give you the answer you are looking for. You have not even asked me but here it goes anyways.  Now I may be completely off here but...Smile

When I look at Sultan, I see a person who has had to bring up his 5-year old disabled son on his own. Dealing with kids takes patience, handicap factor - multiply it by many more times. So here we have a man who has abundance of patience with him which he needs to exercise daily whether he likes it or not. Maybe it is an attribute to his profession (of assumed gangster i.e.). This also has made him mature. And mature sensible people don't engage into shouting matches with strangers who taunt them. They would usually just ignore them.Sultan sees Madhu as a harmless creature with misguided good intention towards Aryan. He is fiercely protective of Aryan no doubt but maybe his natural reticence coupled with heavy dose of common sense and patience probably makes him treat these lectures just as external noise to filter and worry about how to get out of less than desirable situation that he has found himself in.

@Bold - MM...was thinking along the same lines. I actually woke up in the morning ...thinking ... what chemistry, what eyelock.!!! Am not saying what I want to say because just yesterday we got an edit for it!!Wink

There was really nothing. That's why I mentioned RK-DIpali, because this is deliberately provocative. The CVs have this contrived eyelock between Sultan and Madhu every second moment, almost as if they're trying to scare us before RK's return.

Guys, I am no good at speculating tracks, but there is absolutely no intensity in Madhu when she gives Sultan her lectures. Even RK pretended to sleep during one of them!! This is one of those.  She is being boring, pedantic. Why does he keep quiet? he is not quiet, he keeps telling her off, and how many times?? But currently  she is there with them in that situation yes, due to her stupidity!! Sultan is almost like good riddance to bad rubbish when she leaves, kaka reminds him, she is in danger by association with them...now they are bound together by the common danger they face. As a golden hearted gangster/don whatever, he will naturally protect her.

I'm not saying give the track a chance, it is a useless track, it feels like a different serial. But yesterday, I saw some progress in the track.
  • For eg: Radhaji is looking more and more defeated in life. She is almost looking ill. SHe's got her son back, but she's sitting by and cannot do anything while he proceeds to destroy his life, and his peace of mind, his happiness because of his ego. WHere is this track Radhaji-RK, going to go?? After all, she has played a crucial role in their relationship. She still is.
  •  We don't know Sultan's background yet, do remember that
Maybe I have had my catharsis over the weekend because I hated saturday's episode. Kept trying to find answers.  I was depressed after it. This track is the worst for sure. But we might see some progress this week

MM,

@bold 1
Come on yaar !! in my ETA to the post, I said anyone can answer me. Just that I needed to hear from my old EDT friends...I needed their assurance. I have not been wise like them to disconnect earlier. They have more regulated balance and not so sold out on the show as myself...so I wanted to hear from them if I was really wrong being intolerant ...and further what cud be reasons...I was just trying to reach out to them...Here everyday, we say the same thing...people think we just support each other just like that ...so I wanted those oldies to make a statement, which kinda looks independent and a balanced review out of present cacophony.

@bold 2
I am convinced by your explanation. But that could have come to you only after watching today's episode. right ?   Else, you would have had a little struggle to understand Sultan's reticence and maturity.

Okay... Then just like Kodai mentioned...RK too indulged Madhu, so Sultan also indulges this child-woman as he has lot of fatherly patience and listens to her lectures and taunts. RK had reason to keep himself hidden about his motives and same way Sultan needs to ignore to exercise his power and focus.  FOCUS is the word of the day then.

Hmmm!!! I would blame Shamsher Malik for indulging his daughter too much...so much that she bosses around every man like her father.

Sadly, now no longer Sultan is able to take her lectures and taunts and is giving explanations. Right ?

Can I say...Madhu managed Sikky very well ? May be till date, that is her best treatment of any male ?

yaar...but then again...so you think equations are good if these kind of unequal responses are generated by these men towards Madhu.

EUREKA EUREKA ...
Now I understand why Sultan is forced to take the lectures and taunts. Madhu's lecture and taunt is plot-clunk device.

  • Sultan on his own will never expose his story. Then how can the viewers get to know Sultan's story ?
  • Madhu was lecturing and taunting him earlier. Sultan was ignoring her. Madhu kept on her lecturing and reprimanding mode.
  • Now Sultan since Monday onwards is suddenly forced to shed his "ignoring" mode and asked by the script-master to react to Madhu's lectures and taunts. Bit by bit, Madhu and viewers are now getting to know Sultan's story as he is opening his mouth.
Agree ?

Kodai, Thank you very much for time taken to answer me. It definitely fixed me. Basically getting me out of my emotional to logical mind...to see the clunks. Else I was bogged in the real psychological detriment to viewer/character.

Now I can ...after reading Doves, you. Hima and MM, I am happily able to dismiss the lecturing and taunting as mere plot clunk device to have Sultan blurt out his story. They have forced him to be lonely without back-up so that his story is elicited by Madhu as she not only saved his son, is also not from his world...so may not find sharing so bizarre. May be he is okay offloading himself, his steely self.

Poor Sultan...gets a Dolphin Prop-Up for Entry and gets reduced to Lone Man without Resources and depending on Madhu...just to have his story out.

Let's see where this goes...this is for viewers who continue to watch the show.  I am just happy to get my sense back.

Thank you guys!! Hug

OK. I read all the views of our EDT folks here. Everyone is frustrated and distraught. Now we cannot let things as a crap track and overindulgence of a trait in a character(s) affect us. As SD says we have life outside of this show bright and free. I come to the MB forum for more reasons than just for the show. The intelligent and fun-loving people in EDT. I don't want to lose that emotional connect out here. So to revive, I was trying to gauge the positive/promising side if any that were shown in the show in the last few episodes.

SD points out that there are reasons why they are investing in Madhu's overtures beyond tolerance. How will we know of Sultan otherwise? Valid. So there is something planned for Sultan in the story. He comes with a baggage. What's that? How is he going to contribute and revive the show? Are they going to deviate from RK-MB relationship and take a different route. I have no issues but then let them not make a fool out of us and throw some cheap stuff do digest. Anything and everything they show must have the quality and reasoning and pure entertainment that they promised early on.

Another thing that SD is wondering about is Radhaji's state of mind after yesterday's episode. I second SD in that. Poor lady was flabbergasted after her interaction with Padmini. Now what is Radha's reaction and next step going to be? That provokes some interest in me to hold on.

RK defied his blithe interest in knowing the MB-Sultan relationship and his disinterested parting remark about them. He did go in peace of mind although (may be he did not even call Bittuji to know about MB as he thought he was sure there there was nothing brewing between MB and Sultan) but the moment he hears Bittuji, every cell in his body is on red-alert. Now what is he going to do? Is he going to ignore MB or is he going to take a totally different route in the journey of junoon? I need to know what the CVs are up to with RK.

Madhu, can she get herself into more deeper trouble? Baby, you claimed that you have moved on with life but how? am I missing something? What do you want Madhu? Where are you heading? i want to know. Please give us the answers to these questions with good entertainment.

Have fun all! Another day but a better day I hope in the MB-land!

Responded by SD
Doves,

Going by your promptings...the positive feel that I got from yesterday and today's episode.
  • Bittuji and Radhaji come to Padmini and both blurt out RK's name to her, which makes Padmini get offensively defensive about Madhu. This support and trust for Madhu that Padmini is so staunchly providing is like a razor's edge for her. Her support for Madhu today, the way she upheld her daughter, how she will always be right unlikes Radhaji's son, was ringing hollow in viewers ears.
  • Some viewers are upset that why Bittuji and Radhaji had to be naive and blurt out  RK's name when they know Padmini will show the door to them. In my opinion, their naivete means honest intentions. And honesty means something right ? In the present undercurrents of distrust and confusion everywhere, naivete is one thing that can make it easy on our nerves. The way Radhaji accepted that she was in the wrong place to ask about Madhu and walked out, that too was a winning point in terms of drama. After all it is expected that because of her son's act the mother will be humiliated umpteen times like this and she will have gulp down that humiliation for being his mother.  And now...won't there a time come, when RK realizes how his mother is getting broken due to his actions. That time would be something for RK to decide on behalf of his mother and not just for himself.
  • The scene that caused disconnect to me yesterday, RK making a stalking call to Bittuji about Madhu, actually speaking was a catalytic action for Radhaji to make her visit to Padmini.  And infact the only recognition or sense of home we, the viewers feel, is about these two women's interaction in today's episode. This is the only scene that binds us to Rishbala equation, even if it plants the seed of doubt "end of Rishbala". But thematically Rishbala was still present even in the absence of Rishabh Kundra over the screen. It was needed because Sulbala was happening in the rest of the episode.  This interaction also takes away part pain of Padmini by showing RK and his mother the door for what RK inflicted on Madhu. Needed one. Right ?
  • Re: Sulbala
Madhu started on the difficult mission of restoring RK's faith in Ganesha which got her close to Rishabh Kundra. The Ganesha track was abhorrable to many viewers. People left the show at that time.
Now Madhu started on the difficult mission of making Sultan treat Aryan as a child and not an adult. The Aryan Track has now started her association with Sultan and she is getting to know him. Even now some people are leaving the show.

But I guess this all points...to how much of Madhu's love for RK is love and not sympathy for his insecurities. Sultan has also his insecurities. He too needs sympathy. So will Madhu just provide sympathy or also fall in love? That is a question. It might be offensive for me to say it here, but oer Padmini, Madhu has right to happiness and can move on...so look at the converse...it will only expose Madhu's love or hate for RK when more and more Sulbala will happen.

Factually speaking we and RK needs to know Madhu, if she loves RK, loves him for what...as what is it in him that she likes ? His drama...but that she hates it after revenge drama. There seems nothing of him she can hinge on him.
